Aycliffe Care Home is situated in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, just a five minute walk away from the town centre.

It has received a lot of positive feedback about the warm and friendly greeting it gives to visitors . The setting is well known for its generous hospitality!

Staff engage in a very honest, natural way with the residents. They really care about them. They always make sure they look presentable – that the ladies have their make-up on and their clothing and accessories match, that the gents are shaved and their hair combed.

When members of staff pass the residents they’re always very positive and affectionate, at the same time treating them with respect and dignity.

Aycliffe has a full-time activities co-ordinator who keeps the residents active. There is a film club. The local church has a weekly listening service. There is also a resident committee which produces a newsletter.

There’s plenty going on outside the home as well. Residents often get a taxi to town to shop, go to a café, the library, the leisure centre or perhaps to the ice cream parlour. Residents have regular trips out for example to the petting zoos.

My mother who suffered from acute vascular dementia and frailty has been a resident at Aycliffe Care Home for nearly three years.
She passed away recently following a fall and hip repair. Throughout her stay in the home, I have found the staff to be very caring and attentive to her welfare.
Mum has
always been clean and well presented. She enjoyed a laugh and the staff readily joined her singing and dancing.
Dementia has been a devastating disease that took from my mother her speech, reasoning and life purpose. I am indebted to the staff at the home who worked so hard to make my mother's life happy safe and bearable.

My mum has been resident at this home for just over 2 years. She has advanced dementia. The highlight of the home is the care staff. They treat my mum with dignity and respect but also see her as a "real" person. They make sure that her hair is done, her nails are polished and they talk to her and laugh
with her often. They also engage with me and my dad and recognise that we sometimes need their support too. My mum smiles when she sees the carers and that really says it all.

Arriving at a decision with your loved one to stop living independently and leave a cherished home full of wonderful memories, is searingly emotional and difficult.
We feel so lucky to have found Aycliffe Care Home, who have taken all the heartache and stress away.
We visited many care homes, but
none compared to Aycliffe. You only get one chance to make a first impression and Aycliffe created the best, from the well-kept grounds, the welcoming reception, the warmest and friendliest "family" of staff, the bright, lively and cheerful lounge, to the aroma of "home-cooking", it all looked great.
Having made the decision that Aycliffe "felt right", after moving in, it just got better.
The staff are wonderful and very well established as a first class team. As well as caring, cleaning, cooking, they even dedicate their own time off to creating fun Tea Parties, fetes, entertainment and events.
It's a real pleasure to live in and to visit. Our loved one says she feels pampered (hair and nail treatments), very well cared for, safe, secure, valued and very much "at home". Lots of smiles and laughter and the best medicine.

Our dad was in this care home for 12 days. The care dad recieved was exceptional. I cannot speak too highly. All staff including manager, nurses, carers to cleaners were dedicated, caring, genuine and sympathetic not only for dad but for us as a family. We were looked after too, whether it be for a
chat, shoulder to cry on or a cup of tea. Care was very professional, thorough and very well managed. If you are looking for a care home for a family member/ relative then this is the place to be. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

The staff were caring and compassionate. We were all made to feel very welcome and the staff took time out from their work to chat. Mum was treated with dignity and respect at all times and the standard of care was first class. The level of cleanliness was excellent and the meals were first class. We
would definitely recommend Aycliffe Care Home.

On arrival the home is warm and welcoming. It has a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Home is tidy and clean with no bed odours. Residents are clean and well dressed. Carers talk to residents direct in a courteous respectful manner. Residents who are unable to feed themselves are helped and encouraged to
eat and enjoy their food. One of the nicest homes I have been in.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.117)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.117) out of 10 for Aycliffe Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.726 for Aycliffe Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.726
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.391 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Aycliffe Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.65
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.8 = 0.741
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
