Dad has been at St Margaret's Care Home since July 2013. He was very poorly when he arrived. With the kindness and excellent care of the staff, he made an excellent recovery. I really do think that we could not have found a better place for Dad to be and feel fortunate that there was a room vacant at the time we needed it. We as a family have every confidence in St Margaret's Care Home in all aspects of care for those in need.

From my first day of admission, I was made to feel welcome, wanted and respected as a resident. I have received excellent care throughout my stay for rehabilitation both from the manager and physiotherapists.
Nothing was a trouble for the staff to assist me with physical and emotional problems and their kindness and support have been very much appreciated.

My stay here at St Margaret's has afforded me the opportunity to experience the warm, loving care that the staff have given to each and every resident and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this establishment to anyone requiring long or short term care for their families.

The care home has a welcoming and pleasant environment with good facilities and excellent service in respect of food and drink.
The staff's expertise and competence with their application of care make the home exceptional. The whole experience was made easier and pleasing for our mum and us as a family by the kind, caring manager and excellent communication skills of the staff and management.

We feel that our mum was always treated with respect and dignity.

My father went to live at St Margaret's Care Home in June 2015. Right from the start, all the staff at every level worked hard to make him feel welcome so that he could regard St Margaret's as being his home. My father had an outgoing personality and the staff responded well to this sharing his moments of humour. I have no doubt that the staff genuinely cared fro my father and walked the extra mile in their care of him, not least in the last couple of weeks of his life. I also feel that they cared for both my husband and I really appreciate the efforts both practical and emotional that were made to enable my father to finish his life at St Margaret's rather than in hospital and for me to be with him at the end.

I have no complaints about St Margaret's except that it is at the top of a hill and at 80 it can be difficult. More parking would be good.

The building, staff, care and food were all good to excellent. Unfortunately, my wife died after 8 days in the care home and I was otherwise occupied, rather than fraternise. Staff, when I had contact with them, were all very helpful under difficult conditions.

My grandad seems very happy here and is integrating very well. After 4 weeks, staff have already 'sussed' his personality and interests.
The staff seem very caring and genuinely want to make him feel comfortable.
Management are very welcoming, friendly and are happy to help.
My grandmother is very happy with the care my grandad receives and loves the dinners.

Thank you.

Overall Experience
The care home appeared to us to be safe, secure, clean, modern and replete with affable and incredibly patient, empathetic staff.
There did appear to be too few of these on a fairly regular basis, however; we had to wait for between five and ten minutes to gain access on occasion.
Staff appeared to be hurried at times, with far too much to do, so that (perhaps) meals and soiled laundry were not removed as promptly as they could have been.

Nevertheless, the home was able to afford my uncle dignity and privacy (as well as respect) in his final days.

My mother moved into St Margaret's Care Home on 30/09/2016 after initial depression because of her disablement. With the help, cheerfulness and patience of the staff, she is now very happy there. She has often expressed how content she is and is very reluctant to move elsewhere. All the staff are friendly and easy to approach and mum gets on well with them all. Whenever we visit, she is always immaculately clean and well cared for.

Quite exemplary. The standard of care has been at the top of the tree. Knowledge and skills have been superb. Dignity and privacy is excellent and so professional. Facilities are the cleanest and most pleasant in my experience. Family and visitors are looked after with friendliness and consideration with a limitless supply of tea and biscuits. I cannot recommend St Margaret's Care Home more highly.

I had to get an EMI bed for my mother. From the minute I came to St Margaret's Care Home I knew this was the right place for her. The care she receives is superb from caring and committed staff who have mams best interests at heart. Mam has been supported fully to settle in quickly and without incident. There is a genuine family feel within the home and mam is extremely well cared for.

Our experience with this care home was very very very concerning. Numerous problems occurred during my parents' 9-day stay, with one exceedingly serious issue. The care home have responded to my direct enquiries and complaints with inadequacy and after an internal investigation, they have admitted that they cannot offer an explanation as to how the extremely serious issue occurred. Although the facilities and activities offered in the care home were good, this does not negate from the seriousness of the problem we have experienced and the fact that, overall, I would not recommend this care home to anyone.

Both my mother and aunt have been resident in St.Margaret's for several months, Ths place really is exceptional - it is so homely with welcoming great facilities. All of the staff, the manager, the carers, the chef and the cleaners are so friendly, and genuinely caring - many have worked there for a number of years. My mum settled in straight away, she enjoys the food and thinks the chef is just fantastic . The activities provided are also thoughtful and well received - mum has enjoyed trips out, exercise classes, live music, a visit from a Shetland pony, and a history presentation about Durham to name but a few. She loves her weekly visit to the on-site hairdresser as well. If you are looking for a care home for your precious relative then look no further.

My mother came into the home just over a year ago. I wasn't sure about her going into a nursing home, as I had seen some uncaring homes. From day one until her death, the care she received couldn't have been any better, she was loved and allowed to die with dignity. I could not pick one fault with St Margarets and it's staff, saved me a lot of heartache and worry, as I knew she was safe.

My dad was a resident at St Margaret's for three years until his death in December 2015. I'm still a regular visitor as I continue to take part in residents meetings. The manager for three years, has achieved through her skill, a treasured team of staff. As you can see by my ratings that there is excellence throughout.

I particularly have a special message for the wonderful support from management and staff, showing love and care for my dads last declining five days, and extreme compassion from all staff towards our family at this very sad time. My heart felt appreciation.

The care from every member of staff at St. Margarets care home in Durham was outstanding. First impressions of visiting St. Margarets when looking for the best possible home for my mother was very impressive. The home was very clean and modern. Staff had clean uniform, and very friendly. Nothing was too much trouble from the Manager and all staff. The food always smelt and looked lovely.

We obviously made the right choice with St. Margarets in Durham, and highly recommend this home to anyone looking for the best care possible for their loved ones.

From the first visit to the care home I have been impressed with everything about the home. All of the staff without exception are courteous and friendly. Everyone, residents and staff use christian names. The rooms are clean and tidy, residents are able to personalise their rooms with personal belongings. My wife has a wonderful relationship with the staff. The unit has everything residents require. A beautiful small dining room is a highlight. The meals are always of a high standard. I visit regularly at all times of the day and am greeted by a happy caring and knowledgeable staff. There is always lots going on, from arm chair exercises, craft work, entertainment and trips out. There is something for everyone. I am delighted with the care my wife receives and can recommend it unconditionally.
