My father has Alzheimer's and from what I have witnessed is receiving excellent care.
The staff treat him with care, dignity and respect. I believe he is in an environment that understands his needs and looks after him well. He is very well fed and the staff appear to know what he likes. I feel comfortable that he is in a good place and La Cura is meeting his needs.
Aesthetically the environment of La Cura has improved massively over the past 6 months.
The art work has enhanced the communal areas and made these spaces much more warm and attractive. The garden is also a lovely environment. I feel that the staff enjoy working here and the manager is a good leader.

We as a family are very happy with how dad is being cared for.

It was very hard to make any negative comments about La Cura House Care Home.
The overall care was excellent, and the staff were wonderful and kept us informed throughout my dad's stay there.
The food was of a high standard and could not be faulted.

The only negative would be that the place was a bit dated, but it is in the process of being refurbished.

The love and care my mother is receiving is second to none. The home is extremely well run by the manager and this is reflected in the staff who are caring, fun and loving. The door is always open and I hope I can give back in some way. Thank you all.

My nana has been in La Cura for over a month now. The staff are very helpful, friendly and caring. The food smells delicious and always responded back as tasty! The room is very nice and comfortable. Although not settled at first, it is slowly becoming better.

My mum has received excellent care in La Cura. The carers are fantastic, friendly, caring and always ensuring all the residents are attended to as soon as they need help. Activities in the house are varied and enjoyable, with my mum taking part frequently. The activities are fabulous. Meals are home made and tasty in plentiful supply. Cleanliness is exceptional, domestics always around attending to whatever required. The manager and nurses are very approachable and always available. Overall extremely happy.

Staff are friendly and caring although, due to numbers, sometimes not enough time is spent with each resident. Due to the extent of disability, most residents take time to assimilate what is happening, whether getting dressed or moving from room to room.

My Aunt was cared for by the wonderful staff at La Cura for many years. She was the longest resident there until she sadly passed earlier this month. The professionalism, care and genuine fondness for her was evident on every visit. Staff took time to help her with her severe vascular dementia, playing music she loved and I could see she responded positively to them. There is a lovely atmosphere of caring and respect for the residents from everyone I met. Thank you.

My mother has been a resident at La Cura for nineteen months. Over that time, the care given has been exceptional.
The compassion the care team gave was so heartwarming.
I could not ask for more.

I would not hesitate in advising anyone to place their relative in La Cura because I know from experience they will get the best care.

La Cura House is a very professional care home with excellent staff. They genuinely care for the residents and do so cheerfully. The activities team are great, but overall, the entire team care. It's not easy having to place a loved one in a home, but I feel happy they are in a good, safe place.

My mother has been in La Cura House since March and this was my first review. I appreciated the manager's assessment at the home's situation with regard to staffing and facilities. The home is relatively fortunate in its staffing level and the proposal improvements of the facilities/rooms/layout look very positive. I was impressed with the attitude. All contributions (from relatives) were positive which only increased my confidence in the manner. La Cura House carries out its care of our relatives.

Very caring thoughtful all members of staff. Nothing was a problem to them from housekeeping staff to management. My husband was treated with great respect. Unfortunately, he was only in the home for nine days when he passed away. The staff were fantastic to me as my husband passed away. There was always someone by my side.

The care my husband received in the last 7 months of his life was wonderful. All of the staff took the greatest of care and know him not as a resident but as a friend. He told me he could not be in a better place and that was a great comfort to me. His last day was a perfect day. Thank you.

My dad is currently in La Cura House Care Home. He is being very well looked after by the well-trained, friendly, professional staff who are providing him with excellent, personalised care and support. My mam went in to be with him for two weeks respite which she enjoyed. The staff even invited her back in for dinner after she returned home. A lovely, thoughtful gesture. I would not hesitate to recommend La Cura House to anyone looking for a home-from-home environment.

Tracy Wiggans
Tracy WiggansJob Title:ManagerJoined: 2017
Hi My name is Tracy Wiggans, I have been the manager here now at La Cura House for just over three years.

I was born and brought in Berwick upon Tweed and attended both Tweedmouth middle school and Berwick high school or now known as Berwick Academy.

On leaving school I went on to have three daughters and moved to Cornwall.

When my daughters were young I decided I wanted to care for others so went to work as a care assistant in a care home, then went on to looking after people who had to live with Huntington's disease. Whilst working with people with Huntington's disease this inspired me to want to care for people with mental health needs, so decided to complete my nurse training.

In 2007 I qualified as a registered mental health nurse and I completed various other training courses to support me in caring for people with mental health needs. On qualifying I worked for the NHS as a staff nurse, community psychiatric nurse and a charge nurse.

During my time with the NHS I worked with people who live with dementia and felt I could really make a difference in their lives so decided to leave the NHS and become the head of a dementia unit for a private company, I then became the deputy manager for the same company, the manager and myself along with a great team turned a failing home into a good rated home. Not long after we had succeeded in this I moved to another care home for the same company as the registered general manager.

In 2017 I decided I wanted to move back to my home town of Berwick Upon Tweed and it was fortunate that La Cura House care home, previously known by another name was needing a manager. Unfortunately the home was not in a good position and required a lot of TLC. However with the hard work and dedication we managed to make significant improvements in a short space in time moving it from a home which required improvement to a good home within a year.

We continue to make improvements and I am proud to say the changes that the current staffing team have made and the massive difference to the people we they care for lives.

We have developed a whole new team who have embraced some difficult changes, but changes that are so much for the better. Our home is filled with care and happiness and we will continue to strive to make improvements where needed so that residents continue to live in a happy home.

I look forward to the future working at La Cura House.

My name is Margaret Wilson. I work at La Cura House Care Home as Head Cook. I’ve been here a little over 3 years. I really enjoy my job and I love doing home baking, especially birthday cakes. It is great to watch the resident’s faces light up as we sing Happy Birthday to them. I enjoy popping out to see the residents and talking to them about their likes and dislikes.
