This is a truly excellent home. The staff are so helpful, loving and caring, it really is a care home with a capital C.
All staff work as a team regardless of their station (domestic, carer, senior carer, nurse) and even the manager, herself a qualified nurse, joins in to assist residents.
My wife
had dementia (Alzheimer's) and was admitted to the home in January 2014.
In the last 6 months she was confined to bed, but the carers and nurses were brilliant with her, making sure she was clean and well nourished.
She died in their care in January 2017.

The staff at Lowgate are all absolutely excellent. They do a lot of trouble to ensure all residents are happy as well as safe. Activities are organised and enjoyed.
Food is varied and good. The rooms are very clean, freshly decorated and well equipped.
The manager is fully on top of everything and
many extra touches have been introduced to help everyone feel at home.
Visitors are encouraged and treated brilliantly.
I could not wish for a better place for my dear mum to be looked after and cared for.
Top marks to Lowgate.

My mum came to live at Lowgate Nursing Home 1 1/2 years ago. We are very close and it was a massive decision to make, after all, who could possibly care for your loved one as well as you could? The staff are amazing, office workers, nurses, carers, cleaners, kitchen staff, laundry staff, entertainment
department (sorry if I've left anyone out) are all fantastic. Make you feel welcome and involved. Thank you to you all.

My mother came to Lowgate from another place where she was diagnosed with bowel cancer aged 96. I cannot thank the staff of Lowgate enough for their extreme care of my mother at a time where I could no longer cope with the care she needed. They are a wonderful group of the most caring people. My extreme
thanks to them for caring for my mother at a very difficult time.

My husband has now been in Lowgate for 3 and a half years and has received outstanding care and nursing. Many of the staff have been there longer than that. They genuinely really know and care for the residents as if they were their own relative and nothing is too much trouble to make them happy and
comfortable. They will sit and talk to the residents without a visitor and communicate well with relatives. I feel my husband receives the standard of care I gave him at home and my observation shows how lovingly and kindly they care for even the most difficult and demanding residents.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.214)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.214) out of 10 for Lowgate Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.439 for Lowgate Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (100 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (23 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 155 Ratings = 4.439
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lowgate Nursing Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
