The manager, nurses and carers have been most supportive during this time of lockdown when I was unable to visit my friend resident at Lowgate. They've been happy to pass on important messages and keep me up to date on how things are going.
They've also set up a Facebook group that allows me to see how my friend is doing, and clearly they are really doing their best to provide interesting things to do during this time: such as looking after baby ducks! It was lovely to see my friend holding a baby duck on the Facebook page, and I know it helped the family too.

Generally, they have always been easy to contact and open to having a chat about how things are going.

My mother has been resident at Lowgate Nursing Home for over 8 years up to her death at the end of May 2020. Her care was excellent. Nursing, caring, entertainment and all aspects of daily care was of a very high standard. Communication and friendship shown to me was also excellent. I will always be grateful that she was able to be at Lowgate. Every aspect was excellent and I would highly recommend Lowgate Nursing Home to anyone who needs nursing and care.

My mother was resident in Lowgate for over 8 years and I couldn't have wished for anywhere better for her to spend her last years in a care home. All the staff went above and beyond in her care during her long illness, especially in the last 3 days of her life during the Coronavirus pandemic. Nothing was too much trouble and they are really a very happy family there.

Extremely pleasant, caring and professional staff. I feel so fortunate that my father is in Lowgate. They spend a lot of time helping new people to settle in and have kept me up to date with any problems or issues relating to my father's health and wellbeing. There is plenty of entertainment and activities for residents, and people are gently encouraged to join in. The rooms are clean, and the food is good.

I could not have wished for a better place for my aunty. Everyone was very pleasant, accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. If my aunty needed to go back into a care home Lowgate would be the first place I would feel happy and comfortable putting her. Thank you, everyone.

Mum moved into Lowgate in May 2018. From the beginning, she was loved. nurtured and cared for to the highest of standards and she settled very quickly. She was always treated with respect and dignity by all staff and she thrived on this. The staff work hard but there is always a happy, positive atmosphere and I was always made to feel very welcome and enjoyed my visits there. In Mum's final days the support given to us all was amazing. I really can't thank everyone enough.

My Mum spent a few weeks at Lowgate between leaving the hospital and transferring to a residential home close to me in the Midlands. During that time I was extremely impressed with the quality of care given. The manager, deputy manager and all staff went out of their way to be helpful and make sure my Mum's needs were catered for. They even provided a packed lunch and other extras for our long journey to her new home!

My aunt has been a resident for 9 months, throughout which time I have been impressed with her care and how engaged the staff are with all of the residents. She has developing medical needs which the team monitor and manage effectively. While my aunt's memory is fading, she is usually relaxed and bright when I visit. The team have a great schedule of activities, especially over Christmas. A big thank you to everyone who works hard to make Lowgate such a good place to live.

Lowgate Nursing Home has taken care of my father for quite a time. The staff are caring and attentive. They seem to specialise in the personal touch and are always easy to approach and know all of their residents day to day. The home is warm and friendly and all the resident's needs are met.
The staff are friendly and civil. The home is attractive to the eye both inside and out. They ensure that the residents' health is attended to when needed. They will inform relatives if any problems arise. Resident's rooms are cosy and personal effects are permitted. Resident's requirements and history are displayed in their rooms so that visitors, as well as staff alike, are informed without the unnecessary checking on records.

We are always met with a smile by staff when we visit.

All the staff display a very friendly nature and are very professional. Meals are prepared and served with passion and always look delicious and my mother particularly enjoys the Sunday Roasts. I have only one concern which is my mother sometimes not always has urine saturated garments which upsets her. I do bring this to the attention of the carers who do come and tend to her.

Review from Robert P (Nephew of Resident) published on 10 October 2019 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience
My aunt is treated with dignity and respect. She has been in residence at Lowgate for almost 2 years as an Alzheimer resident and although at first she was unsettled at times, remembering days when she lived alone in her own little cottage, she felt well looked after. In recent months, she refers to Lowgate as her home and refers to her fellow residents as her friends. My aunt has mobility problems and prior to and during her residence, is prone to falling. Every effort is made to reduce this and on the occasional time she has had a mishap, we are contacted by phone immediately even if she has suffered no consequences from the mishap. This is important to us as it gives us peace of mind.

When I visit, all staff are welcoming and I am made to feel at home at all times. The nursing staff and caring team are dedicated to their role and show kindness and patience to everyone, particularly those who have just arrived and find the change challenging and confusing. The home is kept clean and tidy.

My mum was in Lowgate and not only did she enjoy it but also felt safe. For her family to know she felt safe was very reassuring. The staff are great, the food good and care very good. The night my mum passed away her family were looked after by the staff even when they had plenty to do. Thank you for your care and I know my mum would say the same. Good luck in the future.

As an NHS employee, I was well informed about the care homes in our locality and this is the one I wanted for my parents. Whilst the building has been smartened up, it is the staff who make Lowgate. Whilst almost all the staff are good from the management team, kitchen staff, trained nurses and carers, the team ethos and the caring element are at its forefront. Special mention must be made of the activities coordinator, who goes above and beyond the job remit. The only improvement would be to increase the staff : client ratio.
