My mother came to Lowgate Nursing Home on 26th March 2021 and stayed with you until her death on the 8th of April 2023. During that time, she suffered from vascular dementia and increasing frailty which, with a stroke a few months ago, rendered her unable to walk. Throughout this time, she was treated
with great care, kindness and dignity by the Lowgate team. I always found them ready to help connect my mother and me for calls and willing to stay with her while we talked as she did require assistance. My mother particularly enjoyed the various activities laid on at the home. I am so very grateful!

The whole family appreciate the amazing team and the care they provide for Dad. Nothing is ever a bother to them. They go above and beyond to help, including the busy caretaker. Lowgate gives us such peace of mind, which is priceless.

My mum has been at Lowgate Nursing Home for eight years and the care and support she has been and is still being given is brilliant. The staff know her so well and care so much about her. The activities over the years have been varied and great. She has particularly enjoyed the music events. The food
is good. The facilities and care are excellent. As my mum’s condition has caused her to deteriorate over the years, the care has adapted accordingly. The empathy shown by the staff to me and my family is so appreciated as well. The manager and staff were excellent through the covid lockdowns and did what they could to keep our relatives safe. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home.

I am very grateful that Lowgate Nursing Home was the place that supported my grandparents and me in their last year. They provided continuous support even through all the challenges of Covid which they also dealt with extremely well. The staff took the time to get to know my grandparents individually
and learnt how best to support them, their likes and dislikes. If my grandparents or I had any queries the staff were always approachable.

During the end stages of life, they went over and beyond to allow me the time to be with my grandma. Unfortunately, I was in a different country when my grandad passed away but I couldn't have asked for better communication and support.

The care that was provided during this time was with dignity and kindness.
I will always be grateful for each staff member's support that they gave to my grandparents and myself.
Thank you.

Although Mum has only been at Lowgate Nursing Home for five-six weeks, from the outset the manager and the team have been amazingly supportive and caring. Nothing has been too much trouble, including my frequent checks and anxieties about isolation, care and being trapped in her room - with the carer,
nurse and the manager's teams support, Mum survived norovirus and Covid outbreaks and, after a long, traumatic journey through hospital and Lowgate, she was enabled to move home this week. It's early days but the care and ongoing support from the Lowgate Nursing Home communication continue from afar and is valued highly by our family. Thank you.

During the last two very difficult years of Covid, the staff have been unnervingly patient, pleasant, caring and helpful. We have always been promptly informed of any change in condition.
The use of Facebook and Zoom has helped to keep in touch with our relative as she is able.

My husband has been in Lowgate and settled in well. He has complex medical needs, more than adequately dealt with by the nursing staff and carers. As a family, we are so appreciative of the care and attention given to him at a very difficult time for all of us. The staff know the dietary requirements,
likes, and dislikes of their residents. We have been informed and included in any decisions or incidents. Thank you to all of you for your kindness, caring and compassion.

My husband has been at Lowgate for almost five years, including the very challenging times of the Covid pandemic. Throughout, the care my husband has received has been good - and the nursing care excellent. His needs have been well met, and the senior staff are always responsive to any concerns. I too
have felt supported and welcome in the home.

Although Mum wasn't long in the nursing home, the staffing team made the stay as comfortable and as stress-free as possible for us all.
It was lovely to be able to decorate her room with her personal photos, pictures etc, making it her home from home.
She received diligent care, prompt action when
required, flexible visiting times and regular updates about any changes, particularly towards the end. Mum loved that the dogs could visit, which made her smile.

My wife has been a resident for over a year, and I am extremely satisfied with the care she has received. There have been the odd health incidents (eg, falls etc), and she has been expertly cared for. I would make one suggestion - it would help visitors to have a better rapport with the carers if the
carers would all ware a name badge you could read at a glance.
Reply from Karen Officer, Manager at Lowgate Nursing HomeThank you for your feedback. Our name badges are quite small. We can certainly look at making the print larger. Thanks.

My mother has been at Lowgate Nursing Home for some time now and she feels very much at home. All the staff are brilliant with her although at times she can be very difficult. I think it would be difficult to find a better standard of care, everywhere is bright and clean, meals varied, lots of activities
and a general happy feel, even as a visitor you are made very welcome. The care over the last couple of years has been excellent despite the problems with covid and we have nothing but praise for the staff.

My mum entered Lowgate in May 2021 during the pandemic. Despite measures taken she caught covid in September 2021. After two weeks in hospital returned to Lowgate unable to walk, lost lots of weight and was very weak. Lowgate staff and the Manager were brilliant without them I do not think she would
have regained her health. Lots of food, treat and activities. She has Alzheimer's which can be challenging but their care is outstanding. Excellent at keeping family informed of situations. Very careful precautions again covid.

My stepfather was admitted to the home for palliative care. He only lived three and a half days before he passed away. The care and compassion of the staff was excellent as a family we were kept informed on a regular basis of the progress and the care needs. I have worked in the care industry for over
twenty-five years so I know what good care means and the staff at this home provided good quality care. Food and drink and activities I cannot comment on as my stepfather was not there long enough and was receiving palliative care.

We looked at several residential care homes before placing our relative in Lowgate. She received a warm welcome on admission and she settled in straight away which was such a relief.
Since then we have been very impressed with her care. We have been kept well-informed about her condition and any clothing
she needed. She always enjoys the activities and takes part in them. She always appears happy on our visits. The staff are always accommodating on our visits. During covid, every effort has been made to keep the residents safe. A well run home.

On my initial meeting with the manager, all of the correct questions were asked showing that the resident and their wellbeing was going to be at the very heart of everything. I left feeling that if I was in my mother's position, this is the care home I would want to be at.

My mother was on a pureed

food diet. All her food was homemade, sloshy, really tasty and easy for her to swallow.

I was allowed to visit my mother at any time as she was nearing the end. I visited my mother in the afternoon and returned in the evening on her last full day alive. The night nurse introduced herself and reassured me she would be looking after my mother during the night. She phoned me at 5 am to tell me my mother's oxygen levels were low. I was with my mother by 5.10 am. For the last 40 minutes of my mother's life, I told her I loved her, listened to the Sound of Music soundtrack and I held my mother's hands. My mother slipped away very peacefully. The other night carers were very attentive too.

Thank you.

My mother, who was 85 years old, was admitted to Lowgate Nursing Home at the end of May 2021. Although she was only there a very short time, I was extremely happy with all aspects of her care and can’t praise the care team enough. She was made to feel very welcome and settled in straight away, during
a difficult period of her life. I felt that staff went out of their way to get to know her and understand her changing needs. I was kept fully informed of any changes to her care needs. She was looked after with respect, dignity and consideration. It was a great comfort to me to know that she was happy, settled and well looked after during her final weeks. I would like to thank the manager and her team for the excellent care, respect and consideration they gave to my mother.

My dad was admitted a couple of years to Lowgate, as he was unable to look after himself anymore. The staff are extremely helpful, caring, understanding and care about my dad. He can be stubborn but their patience is second to none. During this awful time, they have kept him safe and healthy!
When
visiting they are kind and caring, they seem like a great team and would not want my dad anywhere else.
This is a lovely, friendly, clean and efficient service, Thank you to the manager and all the staff.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.214)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.214) out of 10 for Lowgate Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.439 for Lowgate Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (100 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (23 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 155 Ratings = 4.439
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.775 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lowgate Nursing Home is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4, which has been reached with 11 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
