Lowgate Nursing Home

My mother, who was 85 years old, was admitted to Lowgate Nursing Home at the end of May 2021. Although she was only there a very short time, I was extremely happy with all aspects of her care and can’t praise the care team enough. She was made to feel very welcome and settled in straight away, during a difficult period of her life. I felt that staff went out of their way to get to know her and understand her changing needs. I was kept fully informed of any changes to her care needs. She was looked after with respect, dignity and consideration. It was a great comfort to me to know that she was happy, settled and well looked after during her final weeks. I would like to thank the manager and her team for the excellent care, respect and consideration they gave to my mother.

This is a lovely, friendly, clean and efficient service, Thank you to the manager and all the staff.

I can't praise the team at Lowgate highly enough. The manager and her team are just doing the very best for my mum. Mum has dementia, and the team are so sensitive and caring. It never ceases to amaze me how kind and caring they are, and the number of activities they put on every week. Mum is very happy there, I'm so pleased we chose Lowgate for her.

Dad, who is ninety eight years old, was admitted into care in October 2020 during the Covid-19 restrictions. We had tried to keep Dad in his own home for the last year with daily carers but after a few falls and a visit to hospital, it became clear that he needed twenty-four hour care. We were apprehensive as to how well Dad would settle in but we needn’t have worried. We chose Lowgate Nursing Home because we had heard from others who were pleased with the care their families had received. We have been impressed with the care and thoughtfulness of the staff. The manager spent a lot of time on the telephone getting to know all about Dad before he went in and he settled well. Not being able to make a personal visit we feel she handled this very well. The staff have kept us informed of any problems and arranged video calls with Dad whenever we want them.

My auntie has been at Lowgate for the last 3 years and since she first arrived the staff have been excellent and she is well looked after and cared for. There are always regular activities for the residents and lots of photo's keeping you updated when unable to visit due to Covid. I would highly recommend Lowgate and the team that work there.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the manager and her team for the care, respect and consideration they have given to my brother. I was very worried for my brother when the decision was made to put him into full-time care. Before my retirement, I visited many nursing homes while working as a district nurse and I know from experience that the level of care can vary considerably. I have been so impressed with Lowgate. My brother's condition can make his behaviour extremely challenging at times but I feel the staff have made an effort to get to know him and understand his ways. I have been kept fully informed of any changes or developments and I would have no hesitation in recommending Lowgate.

Lowgate took my mother in during the lockdown of May 2020 and cared for her until March 2021. They could not have been kinder to her or more accommodating in the most difficult of circumstances. It was a great comfort knowing she was with them when I had such limited access to her. I could not recommend them highly enough.

This home is well run. The staff are very hardworking, very friendly and extremely caring. The management team are very efficient, understanding and helpful and not afraid of rolling their sleeves up and getting stuck in. The whole centre is geared up to the service users and their well-being. The manageress takes note of any queries and acts on them immediately, which for my part is much appreciated.

Sadly, due to the constraints of the pandemic and the sudden deterioration of my mother's health (not Covid related), I was unable to be with her when she passed away but I will be forever grateful to the Staff at Lowgate who cared for her so well in her twilight years and were with her at the end - I could not of asked for more.

After 6 months of lockdown, I was able to visit my mam today. She looked well cared for and happy (after we had stopped crying), just as she has been in photographs on the Lowgate Facebook page these last months - this has helped me and my family cope with not being able to visit. All the activities have looked great, staff and residents were extra busy with the musical afternoons. I cannot thank the staff at Lowgate enough for all the care, attention and love they give to my mam and I would recommend to anyone looking for a special care home for a family member.

My mum has been in this care home for 4 years but sadly I lost her on 18th February. The care she has received has been excellent in her last few weeks. The management, nurses and carers could not do enough to help my mum and me.

While my dad was a resident, he was well cared for and entertained. We were allowed window visits for which we were thankful for, and has a room visit when it was clear that he was failing. We were very grateful for this, but wish he could have had longer, with proper visits. Sadly it was not to be.

My mother moved to Lowgate in quarter three, 2020, having previously been in a residential home because her needs had increased. The previous home was very good but the care and attention Mum gets at Lowgate from the team there is on another level. I thoroughly recommend Lowgate to anyone looking for a home for a friend or relative.

The whole staff team deserve medals for their dedication to providing the best possible life to our precious family members.

Very helpful staff, followed all the Covid 19 rules (apron, mask, gloves etc). My mam and dad are happy enough in their new home, they like the staff and say there is plenty of food to eat. Mam enjoys activities and TV. Dad is happy in his room watching the wild birds feed outside his window on the bird feeder. They're also getting regular showers/baths in the care home, they found this too difficult at home, therefore it wasn't good for their quality of life. Covid 19 has made things hard for everybody but staff have done a great job!

Would not consider an alternative care home.

I am now experiencing for the first time, a new way of life visiting my husband in Lowgate Nursing Home. My daily visit has become the highlight of my day. To be met at the home by such a caring, friendly manageress for my check-in details, apron, gloves, temperature check and a quiet word of encouragement with details about the late evening checkup. The staff welcome me as they go on their way attending to all the patients with such dedication. Nothing is too much trouble to them. I cannot speak too highly of them. They possess a calmness and compassion, second to none.

There is always plenty of staff on hand, and they operate professionally. I would recommend this care home.

I feel Lowgate needs a complete overhaul and that every resident should have their own en-suite. The management are trying extremely hard but the whole building is inadequate - not enough plug sockets extension cables galore!! There is no excuse for the lack of cleanliness and rodent traps in the toilets! Enormous trolleys blocking hallways with shabby towels etc piled up - the outside is better kept than the inside! All the airflow mattresses should be replaced, we had to provide our own which was fine but what about other residents who are left using the very old mattresses? Food needs to be better delivered in my mother's words - 'it's deplorable'. Lowgate could be so much better.

Lowgate Nursing Home provided loving and supportive care for my father-in-law. Every time we visited him they made me and the whole family feel very welcome, always offering refreshments. They knew him really well even putting additional flowers and bird boxes near his room as they knew this was a passion of his. At the end of his life, they were there for him. They treated him like one of their own family. Lowgate Nursing Home is an outstanding Care Home.
