When I visit Aunty, the staff are always very polite and helpful. The staff are very good with her, sit with her and try to get her to do things. She always seems happy when I visit.

As far as I am concerned, we are so happy with his stay at Dene Grange. The staff have been wonderful, caring and informative to me, which is essential. His well-being is at the top of the agenda for me and the family. He seems to enjoy more of his activities and his life at Dene Grange. His safety is important, and I am informed regularly of any accident and its outcome and care results. Photos sent to me are also vital to our far-away families. Thank you all.

Mum has been a permanent resident in Dene Grange Care Home since January 2022, though was also a resident from March to November 2021. She has dementia and has had her ups and downs with the condition during October. Thankfully she is having a generally good period at present. These changes are all part of her advancing condition and the staff in the home, who know her well, care for her with the utmost patience and often with genuine affection. Mum will outwardly state that she is "happy" which is so reassuring to hear.

Mum moved into Dene Grange Care Home a few weeks ago, and since the first day, the staff have been amazing with her. Her Dementia meant mum was easily confused and unsure of her new surroundings, the staff took time to care for and look after her and reassure her she was safe and "at home". Her room is lovely and they do welcome all their residents to bring personal belongings to help settle them in. She is treated with respect and compassion and nothing seems to be too much trouble. I would recommend Dene Grange Care Home to anyone.

When Dad arrived at Dene Grange he had had a very difficult few months. My sisters and I were very anxious about his future. From day one, the staff constantly reassured us and their care for Dad has been outstanding. His needs are very complex and his behaviour can be challenging. Everyone has taken the time to gain his trust and treat him with dignity and empathy. He is settled and comfortable and any problems have been sorted out immediately. We would recommend Dene Grange as a first-class care home.

After a very difficult few months, our dad moved to Dene Grange. From day one the service has been excellent. Nothing is too much trouble and when we had some issues with Dad settling, the staff continually looked for answers and solutions to his behaviour issues. They have been exceptional in getting to the bottom of these problems and he is now very content and settled. Such a relief for us to know he is settled, happy and well cared for.

Some of the rooms are a little dated but are functional and very clean. This is not a complaint and the standard of care Dad receives is far more important.

I live a long way away from Hexham so am not able to visit regularly. On my only visit last year I was impressed with the care my brother receives and the friendly atmosphere. This is also apparent from their Facebook page. As my brother has dementia I am not able to communicate directly with him and he does not go on Facebook, hearing of this one of the staff there has privately sent me a photo and an update. This meant a great deal to me and I think shows the individual attention the residents receive.

Reply from Paul Millar, Marketing Manager at Dene Grange Care Home

Dad has improved since his care in Dene Grange, he is very happy and content there. The staff are all very attentive and competent. I would not hesitate to recommend Dene Grange to anyone who needs care.
They are always doing activities with residents that are very relevant to the residents.

During this pandemic, the visiting has been so well managed. I always get time to see my dad and have good quality time with him.

Mum has been in Dene Grange since April 2017. I viewed four other care homes in the area that catered for dementia. I immediately felt the warmth and understanding when I walked into the building. The staff do an amazing job and are very loving and caring. They really do understand Mum's needs and always keep me informed of any changes. Throughout Covid they have arranged weekly video calls and socially distanced visits which have been lovely. It may not be the prettiest home but it’s the level of care that is important. I can’t recommend Dene Grange enough.

I needed a break, as a full-time carer for my husband, Dene Grange came to my rescue. He was well looked after, by caring, dedicated staff. He was only to be there 1 week, unfortunately, he took il l2days before he was due to go home. The quick action to send him to hospital was commendable. Due to this fastness, he was given antibiotics quickly for a urinary tract infection. I would recommend Dene Grange to anyone who needed care.

My dad has been in this home over a year now. I took him from another care home as they could not meet his needs. Since being with Dene Grange, I have seen a massive improvement in my dads care. The staff and management are so very helpful and go beyond care. They are wonderful with the residence, their compassion is second to none. My dad is now very clean. They update me straight away with any problems. The manager is very approachable, and one particular lady is very good at her job as are all the staff. I can now rest knowing dad is so well cared for after years of worry. Dealing with Alzheimer's is so difficult. They don't get paid enough for all that they all do for all the residence. I thank them every day.

Overall Experience
The care provided for Mum in Dene Grange is exceptional. All the staff are very, very kind and show Mum real love and affection. Mum is in the late stages of dementia and is not mobile. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff - and this has been the case since she became a resident just over four years ago. The recent change to new ownership of the home has been really positive - there has been some much-needed redecoration and refurbishment and a sense that the company are trying really hard to do whatever they can to make things better for the residents and the staff team - despite the current challenging circumstances.

Communication with families is very good and I have really appreciated this during the lockdown. Equally, the arrangements for safe visiting have been well managed and my brother and I have been made to feel very welcome. We both feel that our choice of Dene Grange for Mum was absolutely right. Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff. They are wonderful people.

My sister, with advanced dementia, was transferred here from Cheltenham less than two weeks before the COVID-19 lockdown but settled instantly despite our being unable to visit after her first week. She clearly felt well cared for. The staff are always friendly and kind and ready to answer any queries. They locked down early and have remained coronavirus free thanks to hard work and diligence, so for the last month, we have been able to visit again (by appointment), seeing her at a 2m distance. The staff are always helpful and supportive and make an effort to provide for patient needs, despite funding constraints. I am unable to comment on specific provisions, activities and facilities due to restrictions of access during Covid-19.

Was so happy after my visit today. The carer had gone to great lengths to make both of us, particularly during the pandemic, comfortable and communication the very best possible. The carers understanding and concern was the very best it could be. She showed love and great patience cannot praise her enough. I had been two worried during the many weeks I had been unable to see him but can now be at peace knowing he is happy and cared for.

My Dad moved in last March when his Alzheimer's and frailty meant he could no longer stay in his own home. It was a move I had dreaded as he was so private and independent. But the staff were so caring and professional that he settled extremely well, very happy in his good-sized, comfortable room with a view of a garden. Each section of the home has a lovely lounge and dining area for a max of 12, giving it a calm atmosphere. Dad was encouraged to use communal areas and join in activities but usually preferred to enjoy his own peaceful space, watching passers by, while staff kept a good eye on him. I could visit any time and staff were always helpful and caring to me as well as Dad, and always happy to resolve any problems. They were truly devastated when he passed away in hospital in December. I know they would have managed end of life care with dignity and compassion. While I'm relieved he doesn't have to face COVID, I know the staff are still going above and beyond for the residents.
