Reviews

9.4 Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home has a Review Score of 9.4 (9.397)

The Review Score of 9.4 (maximum of 10) for Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 17 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.603 for Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (133 Excellents x 5) + (53 Goods x 4) + (13 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 199 Ratings = 4.603

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.794 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 21.4 positive Reviews (107 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 17 Reviews ÷ 21.4 Target = 0.794

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

My partner has been a resident in Pemberton Ward for the last five years, which I feel is a safe and secure environment. I have experienced nothing but care and compassion by the staff, they are always ready to help whether by deed or advice.

The food is adequate for their dietary needs. Drinks are always on hand. Overall I feel that home and its facilities are good for what it was intended to keep in a safe and happy environment.

Hi Hilary, Thank you for your review, we are very thankful for your support and kind donations of the films and music to Hafan-Y-Coed. We are always around if you need us!

Hafan Y Coed is a wonderful nursing home and I cannot recommend them enough.
My grandmother is a resident there and since her arrival in August, they haven't been able to do enough.
I visit three times a week and every time I am greeted with a smile and a thorough update of her day and how she's doing.
First class service from all staff.

Thank you for your review, Stuart, we are so pleased that dad has settled in so well.

I cannot sing the praises high enough for all the staff at Hafan Y Coed. They are all fantastic. My grandfather has been here for 6 months. Because of his dementia, he can sometimes be difficult but the carers are brilliant with him and have so much patience. They do such a hard job but are always smiling. He enjoys going out on the trips that are organised. The home has a wonderful feel to it and our family are so grateful for all they do for him.

Margaret, thank you so much for your review, we are glad your husband is happy at Hafan-y-Coed.

The genuine warm welcome we received at Hafan Y Coed when we came to look around for a placement for my father was second to none. We were offered coffee and shown around the home by the Deputy Manager. He spoke so enthusiastically about the home and all the residents he spoke to reacted warmly to him. There was a delay in dad coming into the home but the manager was fantastic at keeping the family updated. He has settled in so well and the care he is receiving at the home is fantastic. Everyone smiles and nothing is too much for them. We looked at so many homes in the area and nothing compares to Hafan Y Coed.

Thank you for your positive review Mrs M as always if there is anything you would like to discuss the team and I are keen to listen and thank you for your continued support in the resident family/carers meetings. The feedback we receive in those meetings enables us to continually review and evaluate how we are working.

We were made to feel very welcome on arrival as I arrived by ambulance after being in hospital for 9 weeks. The management arranged for us to have lunch, which we thought is a very kind act as we had been delayed.
The overall atmosphere is cheerful and friendly.

Thank you for such a positive review. We are working to bring our activity opportunities also to an excellent standard and have today interviewed for two activities people to lead on this who will work across the home on each community.
This will give us three activities people working across HYC and so we hope this will give the team the support they need to deliver a range of activity options.
Thank you again I will ensure the team are made aware of your comments.

Father-in-law has been here for approximately 6 weeks, has settled in well and the staff have been very good and welcoming.
He has dementia which means he can sometimes be a little agitated. They attend to his needs, taking him into the lounge/dining room for interaction/food and are at hand when he needs personal care. Room is a good size with a toilet, we are able to personalise it with pictures and a TV to keep him occupied/stimulated. Staff are always cheerful, the home has activities/entertainment most Fridays, you are able to have tea/coffee and meals if you mention this and give them advanced warning.
