Purpose-built in 1973 and refurbished in 2000, Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court stands in extensive, well-kept grounds situated one mile from Porthcawl town centre and the Promenade.

Within the grounds there are beautiful inner courtyard gardens made up of a fishpond, scented garden and herb garden for residents to sit in, relax and enjoy the outdoor space. There is also a bowling green and Club House in the grounds where matches are played throughout the season.

The Home is divided into ‘family-style’ house group units, each with their own team of care staff. Each house group has its own comfortable dining room and communal lounge.

The level of care each person receives will depend on their individual needs. This is continuously monitored and reviewed to ensure each person receives the right level of care. Please contact the Home for further information.

My mother-in-law has been at the home since September & suffers from mild Alzheimer’s. The staff over the Xmas period have been amazing. She felt loved, entertained and included. Everyone has been so attentive on her “off days” & encouraged her to be the life & soul of the party when back on form.
We are truly blessed that she is now with such a great bunch of people who genuinely care. We felt guilty not bringing her to us for Xmas but in all honesty I think she had a better time than we did!

The care Dad receives at this home is top-notch. The staff are medically attentive, caring and, above all, always respectful. The food is great, and the activities are well thought out to occupy those who want it. As we do not live in the UK, our visits to Dad are not as often as we would like, but
the staff still know us, and communication by email is good, putting us at ease that he is in the safest place for his condition (Parkinson’s). We’re made to feel part of the team. After 18 months, Dad is starting to refer to it as ‘home’.

The care home endeavours to provide the best care possible at all times. They are always striving to bring global and local events that are happening in the outside world and include them in their social activities and I feel that this helps them to focus and have something to look forward to and that
they can feel a part of. (Not just calendar events Xmas etc.). The home really puts a great deal of effort and emphasis on creating the best possible experience for the residents to enjoy and actively take part in and also feel a part of whatever the occasion is and it is always presented to a very good standard.
The staff are always attentive and I feel confident and assured that they are fully appreciative of the resident's needs and will endeavour to help and do whatever is necessary to help and assist the residents in their everyday care which I’m sure at times can be difficult.
The staff have also created a relaxed atmosphere whereby you don’t feel like a visitor but part of the team.

In March, my aunt will have been a resident at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court for three years. Over that time, we have seen a massive change. Before going there she sat in a chair all day, wasn’t able to do anything and had no friends. Now, she enjoys going to activities with the friends she has
made, participates in events and has gained in confidence. This is all due to the care and encouragement of all the staff at the home. I can’t thank you enough for all you do for my aunt.

I am delighted that my mother is a resident of Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court. She was in a confused state on admission but thanks to the very able, highly qualified, experienced and caring staff, Mum has become more settled and is very happy in her new home. Mum always looks nice and her room
and bathroom are fresh and welcoming respectively.
I have 101% peace of mind now!

My mum is completely dependent upon the carers to carry out all of the daily tasks such as washing, dressing, and being moved around in her wheelchair, Mum is treated with respect and considers the carers as her friends. The staff are very accommodating with everything she wishes to do, even if she
just requires a little company, they are very happy to sit and include her in everyday chat and gossip, which she loves.
Mum particularly enjoys activities in the home which are very varied, there is always something for everyone, from painting, knitting, playing drums, horse racing, skittles, yoga, chair aerobics, sports days, regular visits from therapy dogs, alpacas and a variety of singers and entertainers, there is even a hairdressing salon and pub on-site for residents.
The home provides great facilities for family and friends to visit, tea, coffee and cakes, also well-maintained grounds to walk around.
As a family, we feel so lucky that Mum is a resident of Albert Edward!

From the moment we submitted the application form to Mum's arrival, less than a month later, we have received excellent support, help and advice from admin, the business relations manager and the home manager, who even visited Mum at the hospital prior to her assessment. All the staff have been wonderful
in Mum's unit, from the cleaner up. Mum has settled in well and has only been at Albert Edwards for two weeks. She's very happy, and we are delighted and relieved that she is well cared for, safe and stimulated.

What an experience! From the moment I stepped into the building I was welcomed. My room was comfortable, light, airy, and with a sea view. As I was active, I was able to get to my dining room (one of at least five, each supplied by a central kitchen) with ease. The quality of the food provided was excellent
and to my liking. I am not too sure of how many of the one hundred plus year old residents were into spicy curry and rice! Two days into my stay I was greeted warmly and asked of my well-being by every member of staff whom I passed, from the management to the newest of "helpers." Being mindful each day that the staff looked after the well-being of wheelchair, chair-bound, and bedbound residents, that took priority over us, the active residents. Morning, afternoon, and some evening events were put on for the benefit of all the residents. Here we met up with the less active. Did they enjoy? You bet they did! Night shift staff would regularly open my door to ensure that I was safe. Now that I am home, after three weeks of respite care, I am feeling the benefits of my stay. I will be promoting this care home for a long time.

My stay here in Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court has proved to be everything I hoped it would be. I came here unable to stand, let alone walk but within a couple of weeks I was able to walk a short distance using a mechanical aid and continue to make steady progress.

The Albert Edwards care home is more akin to an upmarket hotel than the traditional view of a residential home. The staff are welcoming, caring and professional. The facilities are fantastic. After a number of years of stress and worry about Mum's safety and well-being, I now have the peace of mind
of knowing that she is finally in a caring, safe and secure environment where her many needs can be satisfied on a 24-hour basis by amazing staff to whom the family feel deeply indebted.

I feel so lucky that my partner was accepted at Albert Edward, having seen numerous other homes. His room is a good size, the facilities are excellent, and it is so clean and fresh smelling. The staff are wonderful and very friendly. Whenever we go into the home, we are greeted with "Hello, how are
you" by any staff member we come across. There is a good range of activities - my partner enjoys several. When he moved into Albert Edward, he had difficulty speaking and moving after a devastating stroke. He has improved so much now, and it's lovely to have conversations over lunch.

My mother came to the home in December 2022 and is having a wonderful and full life. In the home, activities are arranged everyday and very considerate of age and abilities.

My mother has been a resident in the nursing unit since August 2022. The standard of care provided by the nursing staff and carers is excellent. They are all kind and supportive to Mum and myself. The home is spotlessly clean and the food is excellent. Moving a loved one to a care home is a very difficult
decision to make and we were very fortunate that Mum was offered a place at the Albert Edward.

My father is happy here and well cared for. The carers are exceptional and treat my father with kindness and respect and have a laugh with him. I also appreciate when I am in work and unable to take Dad to the activities the carers take Dad along so he is not left out. The carers are always willing
to listen and are friendly to me and other visiting family members which is hugely appreciated. I enjoy visiting my Dad as I can see he is happy and well cared for which is a massive relief. The other residents look happy and will chat and are also relaxed and friendly. The care home has a lovely upstairs coffee/tea area which is nice to be able to take Dad and look over the gardens and across to the coast. The Managers and staff are also very helpful and will always give advice and help in a very friendly manner.

The ongoing kindness and sensitivity we see reflected in Mam's care mean that we are very reassured about the choice we have made. Mam is supported by skilled and committed people who react to her changing needs with great compassion. They are not only attentive on a practical level but in tune with
her as an individual and that is so important. On a wider level, the amenities offered mean that there is something for everyone should they wish to be involved and the overall environment and the residents' rooms are lovely. We are very grateful.

Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court provides care as it should be provided. Residents are treated with respect and kindness. There is a lot in the media about the challenges facing care providers, but this home is evidence that good quality care is possible. It hasn't been easy through the pandemic
but my relatives have been kept safe and well. Obviously, there were restrictions on visitors which impacted on the leisure activities but the staff rose to the challenge. If my relatives or I have any concerns the staff always listen and act on them. The staff are exemplary.

My mother moved in last year with vascular dementia. The staff have been brilliant. My father died last year and they handled my mother with great care and understanding.
The management is excellent and everybody makes you feel welcome.
I honestly cannot find anything that could improve, an outstanding

Teresa

Teresa Picton

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2008

I have worked at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court for many years, firstly as a carer between 1992 and 1996. I then completed my nurse training and returned to the Home in 2008 in the role of RGN in our nursing area, and then progressed to my current role.


Before coming back to Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court, I worked as an Advanced Practitioner and independent Prescriber at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, out of hours. I also managed the hospital at night in the absence of the coordinator.


I decided to retire from the NHS and join the team at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court, and I have enjoyed my time here. I am very proud to be part of this team.


In my spare time, I enjoy travelling in my motor home and knitting, especially for our residents' stalls at events. I am part of a quiz team in our local pub and enjoy being part of the Home's events.

Job Title: Deputy Home Manager Joined: 2018

I began my care career in 2007, completing NVQs and working my way up to Deputy Home Manager. With the opportunity to be part of a commissioning team for the flagship home of a previous care provider, I moved into care home administration before joining RMBI Care Co.

Job Title: Activities Coordinator Joined: 2022

I am part of a small team responsible for providing a range of activities for our residents. Our aim is to make activities fun, stimulating and beneficial, and to really make a difference in our residents' lives.


A warm smile, a kind gesture and a listening ear are essential for this role, and we try to embrace this every day. Being a little crazy is also beneficial, my role model for this job would have to be the iconic Sir Charlie Chaplin. We might not manage to change the world like he did, but we will certainly try to fill our Home with smiles!

Shelley Owen

Job Title: Business Relationship Manager Joined: 2018

Having worked at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court for five years, I have progressed to my current role as Business Relationship Manager. I hold several qualifications, including a degree in Health and Social Care practice, and I am currently working towards further qualifications in my role.


I work closely with residents and staff, so I remain fully aware of the needs of residents. I use this experience during training sessions to make it relatable and real, and to keep our staff and residents safe.

Simon Roberts

Job Title: Facilities Manager Joined: 2015

I’ve been working at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court for the past 8 years as the Facilities Manager. I'm responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all buildings, grounds, furniture, fixings and equipment.


From school, I started an apprenticeship with the Ministry of Defence as an Aeronautical Engineer and then moved up through the ranks, managing aircraft servicing and their surroundings. I eventually ended up on the business development side, planning and scheduling when I left after 16 years, qualified to HND level.

From there I moved into fleet car sales, working for Sinclair Volkswagen in Bridgend for 6 years. Then I moved into self-employment (painting, decorating and property maintenance).

Having lived in the local area for the past 40 years, I was lucky enough to fall on my feet and land the Facilities Manager's job at Albert Edward Prince of Wales Court. It is a wonderful place to work and only a stone’s throw away from my home and family.
