The Hollies seems to be suitable for my mother, although she took many months to settle. I would say she is well cared for and treated with respect. Due to her behaviour, caused by vascular dementia, it was difficult to find a home which would accept her with her symptoms. Therefore, I really am grateful
that The Hollies welcomed here there and eventually managed her behaviour.

Reply from Bikram Choudhary, Director at The Hollies Nursing & Residential Home

We are glad your mother has settled into the home. Our staff are very skilled in managing behaviours caused by dementia and will be grateful for your feedback.

I find the staff very friendly and helpful. They will do as much as they can for me and my family. The management are the same. I find them most approachable if you wish to ask them something. My family are very happy with them, so is my sister.

I have always been happy with the care provided for my mother at The Hollies, but all staff must be particularly commended for the way they have dealt with the Covid-19 situation. The home was closed to visitors before the official lockdown and, although this has been difficult for residents and relatives,
it has undoubtedly contributed to the fact that the home remains Covid free. I have been informed of any changes to the visiting restrictions and have been invited twice to 'visit' my mother (not inside the home, socially distanced and for a limited time). Activities have continued within the home for residents although, understandably, these have been more restricted than normal. Well done everyone!

Very welcoming and homely; my mum has been a happy resident for two years. Staff are friendly, committed, attentive and caring; we feel assured that they know my mum well and work tirelessly to ensure her complex needs are met and that her likes and dislikes are embraced. The building and grounds are
beautifully presented and well maintained. Regular meetings between residents, families and friends and members of staff ensure that the voice of various stakeholders is heard and considered. The Hollies is a hive of activity and it's a pleasure to see the interaction between residents, staff and third-party providers of activities. The management team is accessible and eager to listen. As a family, we are very appreciative of the high standard of care my mum has received during her time at The Hollies.

My husband was a resident in The Hollies for almost three years but sadly he died on 7th November. Because I know how well he was treated here, I decided to come as a resident myself the day after his funeral. My experience here so far has proved I've made the right choice and my family are so pleased
I'm settling in so well.
I have my full capacity and can appreciate how hard the management and all staff work together to make my stay at The Hollies the best possible.
I will recommend it to everyone. I hope to remain here for the rest of my days.

Reply from Bikram Choudhary, Director at The Hollies Nursing & Residential Home

Thanks so much Hilary for your kind review - I know you have settled well into the home and have established a good social network for friends within the home. It was lovely having lunch with you all the other day at the home. We are sure you will have many happy times to come in the years ahead.

My father has complex needs and has been a resident at The Hollies for over 2 years. Staff are always professional, friendly, approachable and supportive. They work as a team and actively provide holistic individualised care. They support us as a family and I'm grateful to them in every way for the
care they give my Dad.

I took up residence at The Hollies Nursing & Residential Home on the 19th December 2018. Even after a short time, I am very settled and cannot speak highly enough of the staff, the menu, the accommodation. I made an excellent decision when I gave up my home and moved into to comfort of The Hollies Nursing
& Residential Home so efficiently.

We were deeply saddened that my Mum could not go home from hospital, but from the moment we set foot in The Hollies Nursing & Residential Home, we felt a sense of relief. Their warm welcome and their caring faces really comforted us.
All of the staff, kitchen, laundry, housekeepers, carers and nurses
took great care of her, and we couldn’t have asked for anything more. Nothing was too much trouble. It was as if they’d all known her a long time.
They seemed to understand that we wanted her to feel loved and safe, and even though she left us quicker than we all imagined, we are truly happy that she had those 3 weeks at The Hollies.

The home always looks lovely, there is never any odour, the bathrooms are so clean and well decorated. I couldn't believe there is not a single mark on the bath! Everything is so nicely presented, the lounge looks homely and comfortable. Everyone is treated with respect at all times. There is always
something going on, on International Day it was lovely, the residents had their drinks and nibbles, a real party atmosphere. The staff are lovely and very approachable, they can't do enough for mum, we want to help and support them with mum's care.

The Hollies has been simply excellent. The basic standards of the home - care and cleanliness - are very well maintained. But what is outstanding is the sensitive, caring attitude of the staff.
I live at some distance from my mother but I feel entirely at peace because she is in the Hollies.

Lovely to observe the staff with my Aunt, when they don't know anyone is around. The way they speak and care for her is second to none. It means a lot to see someone talk to my Aunt with kind words. This has been observed by me on numerous occasions.

My mother has been at The Hollies for twenty months now and I have nothing but praise for the quality of care she has been given in this time. She is well loved by the staff and has thrived there. Due to her dementia, her behaviour can be quite challenging at times but they are more than capable of
dealing with this. Her weight has increased by almost two stone as it was dangerously low when she arrived there straight from the hospital and she is always clean and well presented. The staff are all very friendly and approachable as are the management team, and I have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone and have no regrets about my decision in placing my mother there.

Based on visits over a period of years to the father of a dear friend. These visits clearly only provided snapshots and cannot be taken to represent any comprehensive four-time analysis. However, the impression has always been favourable of a concerned and committed care environment coping well under
great pressure and providing a good standard of service.

My nan has settled really well at The Hollies thanks to the lovely treatment and friendliness of the carers, who are always helpful and kind.
We really didn't want to have to place Nan into a care home, but the staff have become friends now and always let us know how she has been and if anything isn't
right they let us know as soon as possible.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.335)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.335) out of 10 for The Hollies Nursing & Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.840 for The Hollies Nursing & Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (71 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.84

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.495 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Hollies Nursing & Residential Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.8 = 0.795

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
