It's hard to put into words how much the team at The Waverley Care Centre did for our family. Living over in Sydney, being thousands of miles away while my mum's health declined was incredibly tough. She had Corticobasal Syndrome, a complex form of dementia that required very specific care. The peace
of mind I had knowing she was being treated with such dignity and genuine heart in her final year was a huge weight off my shoulders.
When I finally got back to the UK to be with her in her final stages, I had my baby son with me. I was worried about bringing a little one into that environment, but the staff were amazing. They looked after us just as much as they looked after Mum, making us feel completely welcome and supported. Seeing firsthand the kindness they showed during those last days was deeply moving. Thank you to the whole team for making a very difficult time feel peaceful and respectful. We couldn't have asked for more.
Reply from Malen Alvarez, Registered Home Manager at The Waverley Care CentreThank you so much for your incredibly kind words. It means a great deal to the whole team to know that your mums final year with us brought comfort and peace to both her and your family during such a difficult time.
Caring for someone with Corticobasal Syndrome comes with many challenges, and it was a privilege to support your mum with the dignity, compassion, and respect she deserved. We also understand how hard it must have been being so far away in Sydney, and were glad we could provide some reassurance and support along the way.
It was lovely to welcome you and your baby son during those final days, and were so pleased you felt cared for and comfortable with us. Your words about the kindness and warmth shown by the team will mean so much to everyone here.
Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. We are truly honoured to have been able to care for your mum and support your family.

I visit my wife every day and I've always been very pleased with the level of cleanliness of the lounges, the visitors' pod and my wife's room. The same goes for the level of care and attention shown by the staff to my wife and other residents. Particular praise should go to the Activity team for their
hard work and constant cheery interaction with residents and the activities they organise for them. I see for myself how much they brighten the residents' lives and how much genuine concern they show for them.
Reply from Malen Alvarez, Registered Home Manager at The Waverley Care CentreThank you so much for your kind and thoughtful feedback. Your special praise for our Activities team truly means a great deal, and were so pleased to know their hard work and cheerful dedication make such a positive difference to residents lives.

My aunt has been a resident at The Waverley for over 8 years in the Sea Views section and during this time the care she has received has been outstanding. The attention she has received from nurses and carers has been excellent and it is very noticeable that they, and other staff, including cleaners,
maintenance staff, office staff, kitchen staff and the receptionist, are always cheerful and interested in the residents and visitors.
My aunt's room is spacious and always clean, as are all other areas, and the building always smells fresh. There is a good variety of food on offer.
I am very pleased that we chose The Waverley for my aunt when she needed nursing care and I would recommend The Waverley without reservation.
Reply from Malen Alvarez, Registered Home Manager at The Waverley Care CentreThank you so much for taking the time to share your lovely feedback about your aunt's experience at The Waverley. We are truly delighted to hear that she continue to meet such a high standard of care.
Your kind words about our nurses, carers, and the wider team - including housekeeping, maintenance, kitchen, office staff and reception - mean a great deal to us. Creating a warm, cheerful and supportive environment for our residents and their families is something we are very proud of, and it is wonderful to know this is so clearly felt.
We are also pleased that you are happy with your aunt's room, the cleanliness of the home, and the variety of food available. Thank you for recommending The Waverley without reservation; feedback like yours is incredibly rewarding for our whole team.

I was very upset when the consultant stated my wife had to go to a nursing home. With hindsight, I was wrong. The care my wife Pauline, has received has been excellent. She is very content and settled. I am so glad The Waverly accepted her. The staff are very caring and the location is excellent.

My sister is currently in the Waverly and has been for over a year. Earlier this year she had an accident in that home which resulted in her being taken to hospital for treatment. Her injury was so severe that the hospital doctors did not expect her to live. However she did live and was returned to
the Waverly, When we enquired what had happened we were told that she had fallen causing her head to impact with something. We were never given the opportunity to question the six staff members who were in the room when she fell and never received an apology. I do not consider this to be correct and since then it has been hushed up. I wish my sister had never gone to that place.

One of the hardest things in life was having to place Nan into a nursing home but seeing how fast she settled in was a great relief. Nan was loved by all staff who worked in the Waverley from carers, nurses cleaners, kitchen staff activities, maintenance and office staff she truly was in the best place.
Even in the last stages of her life, all of the staff couldn't do enough for her and my family and we cannot thank you enough, you truly are the best.

On the whole we are very pleased with my husband's care. The care staff and care assistants are sensitive to his needs. The nurses always call the GP when needed. He is as comfortable as he can be here given his disabilities. One suggestion for in service training is to educate care assistants on the
difference between dementia and severe stroke. My husband has a good measure of cognition though severely disabled in his 70s and has had a lot to come to terms with because his life was normal the day before it happened. The emotional trauma is difficult as is the paralysis.

My husband has Alzheimer's and Dementia, he is difficult, unpredictable and challenging. I was recommended The Waverley. I removed him from another home to be in The Waverley. The difference in care The Waverley is simply in a different class. My husband is always clean, the staff are plentiful, always
watching the residents and at the first sign of distress or challenging behaviour, they are on hand. They intervene early, reassure him, distract him. He is settled and does not have unexplained bruising. Their wonderful entertainment staff keep residents active. I cannot praise them highly enough. Staff are plentiful, caring, friendly, professional, always on hand and I am always told about any issues (this was not the case in other homes). I feel I am listened to and supported, often in distressing situations. Other care homes may have fancy coffee cafes or pretty gardens but residents are never in them, here it is residents first, they have a nice coffee shop and nice gardens as well.

Dad was transferred to the Waverley Care Centre, the end of July 2023. After spending 10 weeks in hospital after a bad fall. Dad has two forms of dementia.
The hardest thing I have ever done was admitting I could no longer provide the care he required and trusting strangers to look after him.
The
first weeks were so difficult for me as he took a while to settle/adjust. Moving forward to May 2024. Yes, Dad has deteriorated as we all know dementia is cruel. My dad is at the content stage of this dreadful disease.
Thank you, falls short. The manager and her team (too many to name) have made the last few months and I hope many more. A total pleasure for Dad, nothing has ever been too much. Transparency all the way, always kept up to date 24/7.
Collette be proud of your team; you all do an amazing job in exceedingly demanding situations. I will say thank you even though it does not fully represent my gratitude.

The Waverely Care Home already came highly recommended before we chose the home for my wife's mother. My mother-in-law had been a patient within the healthcare system during Covid- 19 pandemic.
Her physical condition had deteriorated together with her mental health; which is a very complicated Alzheimer's
presentation.
All the staff have been exceptional, the care has been second to none. The terrible bed sores that were present in hospital were treated and have disappeared. The psychiatric care is very thorough, the staff have a very detailed knowledge of conditions beyond which I have experienced in the NHS, surprisingly. We have regular updates and if we wish to talk to someone about 'anything' we can.
The activities for the patient are really good, they engage everyone, inclusivity is amazing.
The daycare staff who look after and care for my mother-in-law, are so caring and loving, they really do care for every individual patient. They all are so compassionate and empathetic.

Mum was moved to the Waverley Care Centre on 17th March 2020 from the hospital as she had several bad falls in a matter of weeks. I had already been in discussion with Social Services about moving her to Scotland to be near myself and my family. I had been looking at care homes in Scotland for mum when
Covid happened and she had to be moved from the hospital straight away. I then did not see my mother for about 8 months and only spoke to her on social media (which was a blessing) but it was obvious from the start that my mother was in a good place and was being well looked after. She was happy and always told me how lovely the staff were and how well she was being looked after. I was always kept informed about everything to do with her care and despite having Alzheimer's disease and other health problems which would have caused her pain seemed to thrive there. No words could ever express how thankful and grateful I am for the wonderful staff who work there.
Reply from Collette Woolford, Dementia Manager at The Waverley Care CentreIt was a difficult time for everyone. Covid did take its toll on many people in different ways. Mum was moved to Waverly after being in the hospital for some time due to covid lockdown, mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011 but sadly the last three years really affected her badly lockdown in the hospital had a big effect on that, but when mum was transferred to the Waverly we quite often
saw a happy smile on her face, the staff are all so caring just the small things like ensuring her clothes were matching, her hair brushed and even her nails painted showed us that the staff genuinely cared for her. Mum went from being a bag of bones to looking healthy where she was obviously helped to be fed, loosing a loved one to dementia is awful, but knowing they have caring people taking care of them really helps, so thank you guys we really are truly grateful.

    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 129 registered maximum number of service users is 25.8. 14 Positive Reviews ÷ 25.8 = 0.543
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
