Mum was a resident of The Waverley Care Centre for a year before passing away. Mum suffered from complex dementia and at times her behaviour could be challenging. All the staff treated Mum with respect and care during her time in The Waverley Care Centre. The nursing staff were always available to answer
questions ensuring we were always kept updated on Mum’s health. It was a great comfort to the family that a very much loved mum, grandma and great-grandma was happy, comfortable, safe and loved. A heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful staff at The Waverley Care Centre for the excellent care and support Mum and the family experienced.

My father was admitted to The Waverley Care Centre in March 2022 following a several-month stay in hospital during the pandemic. We were very impressed with the warm welcome he and we, as his family, received. We felt reassured that he would be well looked after and all his needs for dementia would
be met. We could not fault the care he received there until he sadly passed away in April 2023. They treated him with dignity and respect and all the staff knew his name. They made a huge effort to get to know him, his likes and dislikes, they welcomed us on every visit and made us feel very reassured at all times. We will be forever grateful for the compassion and care they showed towards my father in his time of need. It was such a distressing time for us, as a family, to see our loved one so unwell but the care, compassion and love given by the staff made it somewhat more bearable. We cannot recommend The Waverley Care Centre highly enough for all their care and support, above and beyond.
Reply from Collette Woolford, Manager at The Waverley Care CentreOn the team's behalf, thank you so much for your reflecting the family's views here on our service dedication and standard of care. Thank you for all your support and cooperation in such difficult times also.

My father was admitted to The Waverley Care Centre in August 2022 following a period of time in hospital where he was really unhappy and treated poorly, suffering with Alzheimer's.
Within days of being at the Waverley, his whole demeanour changed to that of being contented. Every member of staff from
reception through to all the individual nurses - too many to mention - but each and every one of them have treated my dad with respect, care and love. Nothing is too much trouble and they all have so much patience and time that my dad and the other residents require. It is such a relief to us all, especially my mum who cared for my dad as long as she possibly could, knowing that he is so well cared for, we really can't find enough words to show our appreciation. Thank you.
Reply from Collette Woolford, Dementia Manager at The Waverley Care CentreOn behalf of the home manager and the rest of the team where Dad was cared for, thank you so much for your kind words. It was our privilege to care for Dad and to know you as a family.

We cannot fault the outstanding person-centred dementia-friendly care my mother-in-law received at the Waverley. The staff were so kind to her from the moment she was transferred from hospital. They maintained her dignity at all times, and truly cared for her, in particular, during her last days. After
the isolation of the pandemic, it gives us great solace to know how much she was valued during her time there. We don't say this lightly - my husband and I have lots of experience in a variety of care settings through working in older adult mental health.

I really cannot praise the Waverley staff enough for ensuring, at extremely short notice, that they would be able to accommodate and provide the care needed for my mother. We were asked to compose a list of mum's likes, dislikes, family, early life etc, as this would obviously be helpful because Mum
was in the latter stage of dementia. It was heartwarming to witness the staff 'seeing through dementia' and treating and talking to mum as being the person I once knew. All of the staff, cleaners included, called mum by her Christian name, and they chatted and explained what they were doing or what they would like to do, the continuous reassurance they gave to mum throughout any task was done with kindness, compassion, sensitivity and respect.
The staff showed as much concern to the family as they did to mum, this made our emotional journey far easier to deal with in mum's final days. It was a great comfort knowing that mum was receiving the best care possible in her time of greatest need.

It is hard to put into words how i feel about the care Mum was given whilst a resident at The Waverley. The team that looked after Mum was always with care and understanding of her needs. The nature of mum's illness made her difficult and upsetting to be around however we were always impressed with
the way in which her dignity was protected and how loving and respectful all of the staff were. Mum required 24 hour nursing care, as well as care and understanding for her dementia and the team, carried this out with Mum's needs being the priority. As well as looking after Mum they also made sure the family were also ok and during Mum's final hours they provided support and guided them through this hard and upsetting time, I know we as a family will always be grateful for this and cannot thank them enough.

My Mum moved from a residential home into The Waverley Care Centre in June 2022 after being assessed for dementia nursing care. The managers, nursing, care and activity staff have gone out of their way to make the transition smooth and my Mum has settled very well. They were very helpful in accommodating
a piano for my Mum, who loves to play. Mum always looks clean and well dressed and is treated with kindness and dignity.

The care given to my mother at the Waverley care centre was absolutely fantastic. From the moment we arrived until the moment she passed away peacefully in their care, I couldn’t have asked for more. Each and every member of staff, from management, reception staff, nursing staff and care workers, the
care was totally personalised and encompassed not just care for my mother but also for myself as a sole carer. I cannot recommend the Waverley highly enough. It became a home, in every sense of the word, for both of us once I could no longer look after her at home due to the challenges of her dementia. I thank all at the Waverley for enabling the last years of my mother’s life to have been the best they possibly could have been.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.986)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.986) out of 10 for The Waverley Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.593 for The Waverley Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (122 Excellents x 5) + (42 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 177 Ratings = 4.593
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.393 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Waverley Care Centre is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 129 registered maximum number of service users is 25.8. 14 Positive Reviews ÷ 25.8 = 0.543
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
