My father moved into Crossfield House 12 months ago. As we were unable to view it before he arrived due to covid it was quite a worrying time! Thankfully the manager was able to put me at my ease by chatting to me and sending photographs of the home and his room. The staff have also sent photos to put
my mind at rest. It was so difficult to envisage him in his room and other areas. Visiting was difficult at first, again due to covid. But I was able to visit most weeks either through glass or weather permitting in summer house! I can not praise the staff enough as when we visit he's always clean and tidy and seems happy. If I have a concern about anything the staff are always helpful. Also, I like the fact that I'm involved with his care not just his daughter. I'm kept up to date regularly about his meds etc. Over the past couple of weeks we've been able to celebrate his 93rd birthday and enjoyed a gorgeous jubilee afternoon tea, hopefully, the start of normality. Thank you all.

The staff at the home put on a lovely afternoon Jubilee tea. The displays and the food was excellent, my mother enjoyed it very much. The weather was good enough to sit outside. It is easy to see how my mother has settled in so well. The home is excellent and the staff cannot do enough for my mother.
They are wonderful.

My husband has been a resident at Crosfield House, Rhayader since 2018. The care it provides has always been excellent, but through the Covid crisis, it has surpassed itself. Obviously not being able to visit for long periods has been distressing but staff have always been available on the telephone
or by email to keep relatives updated and in touch. On one memorable occasion my husband (who has dementia), not understanding why I had not been to see him, said he wanted to speak to me. A carer contacted me and helped my husband to use the phone, even moving him to another room when reception faded. This was at a time when the staff were under great pressure. Just one instance of the caring nature of all the staff at this home. Obviously, the range of activities they previously provided has been curtailed but I know from recent visits that they have tried very hard to maintain the resident's interests.

Following a very challenging period with my Dad and managing his dementia, as a family we made the very difficult decision to place him into a care home. We chose Crosfield House as it was the closest for my Mum to visit and I have to say that I am so pleased we did. The staff (both office and care/nursing
staff) are without exception the best there is, the care they provide is second to none and my Dad is absolutely thriving there. Due to the pandemic and all the restrictions in place, the staff became Dad's family while we were unable to visit often and I cannot thank them enough. Today to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee they organised an afternoon tea party for the residents and two members of their family. We were made extremely welcome and the residents are treated like royalty themselves, my Dad had such a lovely afternoon, it was reassuring to see him so happy and content. He has settled in so well, thanks to the love and care he is receiving from all the staff.

Had a very lovely professional afternoon tea for the Jubilee with my resident friend. Following the tea, there was a singer who had a wonderful voice. I'm sorry to make a negative comment but a very large TV was on (though muted) throughout her performance and whilst I appreciate some residents like
to watch the TV it was disrespectful to the entertainer. Unfortunately, 3 relatives of mine are living in care homes currently and none of those has a central TV dominating the communal space.

My wife has been a resident at Crosfield House for over two years. Prior to the virus crisis, I got to know many of the staff in all the many roles such a home requires. Without exception, whatever the specific duty of the staff member, whether they had direct involvement with my wife or not, the overriding
characteristics displayed to us both was of compassion, patience and kindness. It has been difficult, and ongoing, to come to terms with the sense of failure and guilt that I could no longer look after my wife, but if I can't look after her then I am so glad and deeply grateful that Crosfield is looking after her so well. Since the virus crisis, I have been impressed how the staff have coped in such difficult, uncomfortable and trying circumstances. The home has handled my enquiries with patience and although visiting can be difficult, I respect that the management is having to make difficult ongoing decisions. Thank you everyone at Crosfield, I cannot recommend the home enough.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.772)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.772) out of 10 for Crosfield House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.897 for Crosfield House is calculated as follows: ( (159 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 174 Ratings = 4.897
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Crosfield House is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 15 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
