The activities organised for the residents is fantastic, especially during those trying times. They are kept busy doing relative activities - Pancake Day spring, St Davids Day, Valentines. All the baking and games they do stimulates the residents to take part and be content, while not missing relatives
so much. Always enables the resident to be able to converse well with the family as to what has been going on - well done, and thank you.

My wife has been in the Vyrnwy for three months and seems very content. From what I have seen the staff are first class, but at weekends they appear to be short on numbers. I would like to say the activities are very good and varied.

In the five and a half weeks my father spent at the Vynrwy Nursing Home I have nothing but praise for the care and attention he received. All the staff showed kindness and true professionalism in his care. The staff were always warm and welcoming and kept us fully informed on his condition. My father
was very happy at the time he spent there.

Staff helped person settle quickly. Level of care is very good with attention to detail. The care given is of a high quality and there is a good atmosphere in the home. However, there are times when it seems that staff are under considerable pressure. Though well supported and working to high standards,
sometimes it seems that another pair of hands is needed.

Rooms are a bit dull, food not that great, staffing levels are quite poor sometimes, but the staff themselves are great. Entrance and the overall state of the building is quite shabby. I have asked for Mum to change rooms, but this has not been achieved. For the cost of keeping Mum there, I do not think
it's good value.

Seven years ago my wife suffered a severe stroke that we did not think she would survive. The last eighteen months have seen her condition and mental state deteriorate, she had given up hope of ever recovering. Two months ago she was admitted to Vyrnwy Nursing Home. I did not think that she would ever
return home. Now she is laughing, eating, walking (with a stick) and looking forward to life. An amazing place with even more amazing staff!

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.731) out of 10 for Vyrnwy Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.806 for Vyrnwy Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (167 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 201 Ratings = 4.806
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Vyrnwy Nursing Home is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
