Goldielea Home has welcomed my mum and settled her into her new home with care and attention to her as a private lady, who needed quiet encouragement and respect in her declining dementia. The home have welcomed the whole family as we have adjusted to the move, answering the many questions and reassuring us from the first day. The staff are positive and cheerful and Mum's room is warm and comfortable.
Thank you for your kind words and it is great to hear that mum has settled into her new home. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if we can be of further assistance.
What a relief! The staff are fabulous, well trained, and genuinely care, with most of the staff being there a long time, they speak to all the residents with respect and kindness without being ingratiating. This attitude comes from the top and the manager has been available at all times as well to support us.
I am a retired health professional working in the NHS and private sectors for over 30 years and can be quite blunt, but if I had to be in a care home - Goldielea would be my choice
Thank you for your review. We are so pleased to hear that your aunt is enjoying life at Goldielea, after you took the difficult decision to find a care home placement. Also great to hear the relief your family are now experiencing knowing she is settled and receiving all the support she needs. Thanks again.
We are so lucky we found Goldilea and give thanks every day for the luck that brought us here. The home is bright and airy, Dad's room is lovely and the grounds are beautiful all year round. We couldn’t have asked for a better home for Dad. The manager is visible with residents and to family and will do what she can to accommodate family requests whilst maintaining the highest level of care. Dad is happy here, the staff not only care for Dad but provide entertainment and companionship and when times are tough like now during the COVID pandemic they provide all of the support and company they need just like family. We have managed to see Dad with the home organising two drive-bys and Mum has had a social distancing visit with Dad. She was supported by staff to ensure the visit went well and they certainly put her mind at rest. Thank you for all you do in giving us peace of mind that Dad is safe and well looked after. We could not ask for any more.
Hello Sylvia. We appreciate you taking the time to submit a review and on behalf of the management and all of the team at Goldielea thank you very much for your words of praise. It has been a difficult time whilst the visitor restrictions are in place but great to hear that you have managed to stay in contact with Dad and be reassured that he is safe and well.
I get good support from the staff, when necessary.
I felt confident that my mum was in good time during lockdown, when I was not able to visit.
I have been impressed with the way their FaceBook page has been updated with photos and events.
Staff take on board suggestions we make to them regarding Mum's care.
Hi Irene. Thank you for your review and great to hear that mum is doing well and that you are so happy with the care she is receiving whilst living at Goldielea. We will pass on your comments to the team.
Now into the third year and this residential home must be one of the best around. Compassionate care is given in bucketloads to residents and family members. Issues are handled sensitively and any questions addressed. The whole place is attractive and well maintained throughout. Management very much are involved and hands-on also knowing the details of every resident. Praise for the action taken during COVID and keeping everyone safe.
Thank you for your lovely review and kind words. We will pass these on to the rest of the team. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if we can be of further assistance.
I am a healthcare professional on the South Coast of England. In the course of my duties I visit nursing and care homes on a daily basis and I have ample opportunity observe and to compare the establishments. My mother lives in Dumfries and when the time came for her to enter residential care it was fortunate that a friend of hers was a staff member of Goldielea and she was able to recommend it as the solution. In the years Mum has been resident there I have visited at regular intervals. During those visits, I have been able to observe the daily operation from the perspective of a next of kin and also as an independent healthcare professional. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Goldielea. It is well managed, efficiently run and staffed by very professional, highly motivated, kind, caring and highly skilled staff with a very obvious commitment and an impressive passion for their roles. The way they have looked after Mum has been simply superb and I am extremely grateful.
Hi Norman. Thank you so much for your complimentary review and for your professional recommendation. We are delighted that you have been impressed by our services and that your mum is so happy living at Goldielea.
Goldielea has a welcoming environment, with staff that are friendly and very helpful.
The staff in the Woodlea Unit are very attentive and caring. They are very aware of each resident's individual needs.
I am always informed immediately when there is any small change to be made to my mum's care plan or any appointments have been arranged.
Nice polite and friendly staff who treat residents with dignity. Any queries or requests are dealt with promptly and effectively. The Home is clean and tidy, the food is good, varied and well presented.
I have always found the staff of Goldilea Care Home in Dumfries very helpful and supportive and I feel comfortable that my aunt is getting the right support and assistance that she requires and that this is tailored to her needs that can fluctuate on a day to day basis.
My aunt enjoys the meals at Goldilea and appears to have a good rapport with all of the staff.
I have always found the nursing staff very knowledgeable and informative and my general feeling is that all staff at Goldilea really care for the resident's wellbeing.
I live in Oxfordshire, 300 miles from Goldielea where my sister is resident, and am only able to visit her for only about 4 to 6 times per year. For that reason, I do not feel I know enough or have seen enough to make any detailed judgement about the Home. However, I must say that I have no reason to express any dissatisfaction. The staff are always most helpful and, from my limited observation, they appear to be attentive to the needs of the residents and display a friendly, caring and kindly manner to those in their care. My sister has never complained nor commented unfavourably about the staff or the facilities. The only reservation that I have is in regard to the building which externally appears to be in need of re-decoration and internally, whilst clean appears somewhat tired. These are only cosmetic failings but they do affect one's general feeling about the Home.
Goldielea looked after my father for four months leading up to his death. Most of the caring was good but a lack of communication between staff made it imperative that a member of our family visit every day. Not a lot of continuity between shifts. Felt lack of handrails into the EMI unit was dangerous - they would greatly assist residents who were still ambulant but who tired easily or become unsteady. Food is adequate. Room very nice. Activities/outings not apparent for EMI.
Not advised of relative being unwell.
Care home manager has been made aware of all concerns.
My mother has been a resident of Goldielea for over a year now. I have always been very impressed with the friendliness and openness of the staff and management. In particular, they proactively look for and implement improvements, sometimes just little things, to enhance the lives of the residents. For example, they took my mother into the town for a Christmas shopping trip, which she loved.
The home is situated in extensive grounds which enables me to take my mother out for walks and for her to enjoy the changing seasons and the local wildlife.
Overall I have been very impressed with the staff and the facilities.
My father has been a resident of Goldielea for about 4 years and although he didn't think it was a good move for him, he has settled in and is now one of the longest-standing residents. His wife (my stepmother) died there in January. The staff cared for my Dad exceptionally well giving him lots of support and getting him to the funeral, suitably dressed, for which we were all very grateful. The care since then has been exceptional and I can't thank them enough.
This is the second time I have used the services of Goldielea. Throughout this time, I cannot fault the staff or the care that they provide. Sometimes I feel there could be a requirement for more hands on deck, but I also understand that staffing numbers are set externally. Any requests are managed and progressed as soon as is possible. On the whole, Goldielea is better than some of the other care homes I have viewed.
There is a lovely "feel" about the place and it is evident that staff don't just "gel" with the residents but with each other. They all work well as a team.
All staff including non-care staff treat the residents with the dignity and respect they so deserve.
Communication channels between staff and family are excellent.
Staff at all levels know each resident and are frequently seen interacting with them.
There is always something happening to entertain the residents.
After visiting my dad I leave happy in the knowledge that he is safe and being well cared for.
Best thing we ever did as a family was move our dad from his previous care home to Goldielea Nursing & Residential Home.
My mother has been in the care home now for around 3 months and has settled in really well. She enjoys the company and finds the food excellent. She has a nice room that she uses mainly just for sleeping in spending her days in the middle lounge. She occasionally joins in with the activities and I am sure would do more with a little prompting by staff.
My husband has been in Goldielea Nursing & Residential Home for almost a year now and I have been very pleased with the care he has received in that time. Nothing is a problem. He is treated with respect and the staff have always been very helpful to both my husband and myself. The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming and I have nothing but praise for everyone. I can go home and know he is in good hands and safe.
Goldielea Nursing & Residential Home is one of the best care homes. The staff are all friendly and my Mother is happy and well lòoked after by them all. I have worked at Goldielea in the past and knew it was a good home and I felt confident that my Mother would be happy there and well cared for. The manager is the same person from when I worked there and she is one of the best. I would recommend Goldielea to anyone. The building is beautiful and in a lovely setting.
The home is well sited with wonderful views and well maintained grounds. From the conservatory you look out onto a large pond with much bird and animal life activity eg red squirrels, heron, ducks, woodpeckers etc. Goldielea is generally a good place to be when you need care and attention.
