My Dad has been in Gowrie House for 9 months now and is very settled.
From the moment I step through the door I am greeted and chatted to and this follows through to the carers, nurses, chef, maintenance person, cleaners etc etc. Most staff within the home know my Dad by name and always have a good
word to say about him. Dad has great relationships with all the staff in Gowrie House and enjoys sitting own at meal times for chats and good food with the other residents. We love sitting in the garden which has loads of beautiful flowers. If I have any concerns I am able to talk to a member of staff to get my concerns across and they have always come back to me with an answer.
I feel very grateful to know that my Dad has great care 24/7 and this gives me great peace of mind. Thanks to every member of staff in Gowrie.

Very happy with the care Dad receives. He's happy and content. Dad likes his food and there's certainly plenty on offer!
All staff, from reception to caring staff to management, all welcome you with a smile and a chat. The activities team do an excellent job.
The home has a nice friendly feel to
it and would recommend it to anybody looking for a care home for their loved one.

Delighted to have found such a lovely nursing home for my elderly and frail mum! She had a bad fall at home, resulting in a 12-week hospital stay and then began the process of visiting nursing homes (when it became apparent that she could never return home). From the first minute I visited Gowrie House,
I felt a very welcoming atmosphere with warm greetings from all staff and residents! When I left thirty minutes later, I knew that this was my preferred choice for Mum and, kindly, the manager ensured a bed was available on her discharge, which was much appreciated! Mum has now been a resident for seven weeks and although she is still adjusting to her new environment, myself and family are very happy with the care Mum is receiving and the excellent home-cooked food! All the staff are very pleasant, kind and patient and we are extremely grateful for their kindness in caring for Mum. We look forward to the summer months when we can all enjoy the beautiful sunny gardens.
Reply from Gwyneth Christie, Manager at Gowrie House Care HomeThank you for your review, first few weeks are the hardest to adjust to such great changes, however, it is great to hear your mum feels settled.

My mum has now been in Gowrie House Care Home since September 2019. You can see that the whole team genuinely care for her and this provides great comfort to myself and all the family. The care of my mother in August 2022 when she had a stroke was beyond the call of duty. My mum is very happy, safe
and settled. All of the staff are amazing, everyone speaks to me and my mum. All staff and management do an excellent job.

My Dad received excellent care throughout his time at Gowrie House Care Home and sadly passed away in September but what I wanted to review was the end-of-life care he received. It's not something you want to think about for your parents but the experience at Gowrie was exceptional. All of the staff
were truly amazing, always treating my dad with care, compassion and dignity and keeping us informed throughout with his condition. They went above and beyond. Not only did they look after my Dad, they looked after my sisters and I, keeping us upbeat, there to listen if we needed a chat and offering words of comfort and a cuddle when we were feeling low. We will never be able to truly express how much it meant to us. The words thank you just don't seem enough. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Reply from Gwyneth Christie, Manager at Gowrie House Care HomeThank you for letting us know how we are doing at Gowrie House Care Home. The care and well-being of every resident and their family is our number one priority and it is rewarding to have such positive feedback about how we are doing.

Was a bit hesitant about putting Mum into a care home, it was something I said that would never happen but to be honest it's been the best decision we as a family have made. Mum settled in quickly and I can now enjoy spending time with her as her daughter and not her carer. All of the staff from the
minute you enter are always welcoming and the staff in the Lewis suite are very caring and brilliant with my mum. I have absolutely no worries about the care my mum is receiving.

From the moment you enter the home until you leave, the staff are all very welcoming and always have time for a chat or to answer any questions. When we were looking for a nursing home for Dad, some people screwed up their faces at the mention of Gowrie House Care Home from their knowledge of residents'
care in previous years however, we heard it was now in the hands of new owners/staff and couldn't be happier with the care and attention Dad receives. The social worker also said this was a good place to consider. There are various activities twice a day and also events relatives and friends can attend. My dad has only been in five months and we have been to several events. Even my 15 year old granddaughter was impressed with the way the staff communicated and connected with the residents when she attended one of the events with me. I would not hesitate to recommend Gowrie House.

My sister-in-law has been a resident for the last six months and has received excellent care. She is largely bed-bound and is monitored constantly. She often comments on the friendliness and care of the staff.
Previously, my brother was a resident until his death in June 2021 and, again, received
the best of care.

I was looking for a nursing home that could care for both my mother and father as it was important to keep them together. Finding the right place for my parents was difficult but when I visited the home, met the manager and her staff I knew this was where we wanted my parents to be looked after.
My
mother and father have now settled in well and the staff are great with them. I can’t thank them all enough for what they have done for the family. It’s also great to know that both my parents are safe, being looked after very well and eating fantastic food.
Thanks to all at Gowrie House Care Home.

I recently was able to visit my Dad in his bedroom after fourteen months. I was delighted to see how content and happy he appeared. Fortunately my family and I have had excellent contact over the pandemic through zoom. The carers at Gowrie House Care Home are friendly and approachable. My Dad who has
dementia moved into the care home in December 2019. It took a couple of months for him to settle. Now my Dad says he is in a “good place”and he doesn’t get upset when my Mum leaves after a visit. He likes and trusts the staff. The home has a bright and airy feel since it has been decorated. The choice of colours in the dementia unit is excellent. My Dads room is always neat and tidy and he has a lovely view over the Forth, he enjoys watching the boats. I have been told the staff give my Dad one to one sessions using an iPad to help with his dementia and he can join in small group activities. Our family can’t thank the staff enough for the devoted care they are providing for my Dad.

My mother in law has been a resident since June last year. During that time I have been satisfied with the standard of care given. If there have been any issues the staff have contacted me. If I have any concerns I contact the manager who is always very helpful. Gowrie has recently been decorated and
looks much brighter and her room looks a lot lighter with the removal of a big tree at the front of the building. When I visit she always has access to her call bell and has a nourishing drink within reach. The room is clean tidy and warm. Hopefully, the activities will soon be back to normal as she enjoys the bingo sessions etc. Any staff that I have met have always been very pleasant.

There comes a stage in life when making the correct decision on the welfare of my father was being raised. My sisters and I noticed his state of mind was confusing and worrying. In a short period of time, my father was showing signs of dementia by the family. You never think that dementia will progress
so quickly and especially through COVID19 lockdown. My sisters and I made the crucial decision that my father’s welfare was important and we are extremely happy and thankful for the wonderful care my father is continuing to receive from Gowrie house care home. The staff are tremendous with the care he is receiving. Knowing my father is being cared for is really important to us. Through lockdown, I’ve not managed to see my father however I can see he’s settled in very well. We believe that my father sees the staff as his new family. I like to personally thank you for everything that you have done in the care my father is continuing to receive.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.627) out of 10 for Gowrie House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.777 for Gowrie House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (137 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 166 Ratings = 4.777
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gowrie House Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 14 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Amy joined our team in 2023 and brings with her a rich background in adult disability care, combined with a lifelong love of music. Before joining Gowrie, Amy balanced her care work alongside her involvement in the music industry — a combination that has shaped her creative and person-centred approach to activities.

She has a real passion for bringing joy and purpose to life in our home, especially through the integration of music into everyday care.

Outside of work, Amy loves attending live gigs and discovering new music.
