I was looking for a nursing home that could care for both my mother and father as it was important to keep them together. Finding the right place for my parents was difficult but when I visited the home, met the manager and her staff I knew this was where we wanted my parents to be looked after.
My mother and father have now settled in well and the staff are great with them. I can’t thank them all enough for what they have done for the family. It’s also great to know that both my parents are safe, being looked after very well and eating fantastic food.

Thanks to all at Gowrie House Care Home.

I recently was able to visit my Dad in his bedroom after fourteen months. I was delighted to see how content and happy he appeared. Fortunately my family and I have had excellent contact over the pandemic through zoom. The carers at Gowrie House Care Home are friendly and approachable. My Dad who has dementia moved into the care home in December 2019. It took a couple of months for him to settle. Now my Dad says he is in a “good place”and he doesn’t get upset when my Mum leaves after a visit. He likes and trusts the staff. The home has a bright and airy feel since it has been decorated. The choice of colours in the dementia unit is excellent. My Dads room is always neat and tidy and he has a lovely view over the Forth, he enjoys watching the boats. I have been told the staff give my Dad one to one sessions using an iPad to help with his dementia and he can join in small group activities. Our family can’t thank the staff enough for the devoted care they are providing for my Dad.

My mother in law has been a resident since June last year. During that time I have been satisfied with the standard of care given. If there have been any issues the staff have contacted me. If I have any concerns I contact the manager who is always very helpful. Gowrie has recently been decorated and looks much brighter and her room looks a lot lighter with the removal of a big tree at the front of the building. When I visit she always has access to her call bell and has a nourishing drink within reach. The room is clean tidy and warm. Hopefully, the activities will soon be back to normal as she enjoys the bingo sessions etc. Any staff that I have met have always been very pleasant.

There comes a stage in life when making the correct decision on the welfare of my father was being raised. My sisters and I noticed his state of mind was confusing and worrying. In a short period of time, my father was showing signs of dementia by the family. You never think that dementia will progress so quickly and especially through COVID19 lockdown. My sisters and I made the crucial decision that my father’s welfare was important and we are extremely happy and thankful for the wonderful care my father is continuing to receive from Gowrie house care home. The staff are tremendous with the care he is receiving. Knowing my father is being cared for is really important to us. Through lockdown, I’ve not managed to see my father however I can see he’s settled in very well. We believe that my father sees the staff as his new family. I like to personally thank you for everything that you have done in the care my father is continuing to receive.

A huge thank you to your staff for the care my dad is receiving, I came to visit my dad today and was shocked to see how well he looked, especially as I have not seen him during lockdown. He is immaculate and fresh-looking. The visit went well, but when he went back indoors he clearly knows the staff and was laughing and joking with them. First time I have felt we have done the right thing by getting help for my dad and don’t feel guilty anymore for putting him into care. He clearly is very comfortable and probably sees your staff as his family, staff are excellent at their job in the way he looks after my dad, and all the staff can’t do enough for my dad. My dad did take a while to settle and now but he is so happy and content with the care he receives. A huge thank you to Gowrie Staff.

Cleanliness of table is often poor, with dried food. Room hasn't been updated in 3 years of residence. Experienced staff are good, two members in particular. Other staff don't appear to understand or assist as well. Food options are poor, along with quality at times. High turn over of staff doesn't help with his regular needs. Not value for money.

My auntie has been in respite for 2 weeks. Every time I go in, it is so friendly. Staff can't do enough. It is clean. It has got a family atmosphere, so much for her to do. I have seen concerts,m bingo, videos, TVs, lovely lounges to sit in whilst visiting. My auntie loves the food and she said there is plenty of it. So, overall I would rate this as home from home. Would not hesitate to leave my family here.

Gowrie House nursing home has a welcoming feel to it. It was originally a hotel and still has that ambience rather than that of a nursing home. Staff were very friendly and attentive to my Dad and made his stay there comfortable. Although I cannot fault the staff and care he received the building needs to be brought up to a higher standard. Buzzers and sensor mats need to be in full working order, with sockets available.

Rapport with staff very good. Very friendly and caring. Gowrie House felt still very much like the hotel it used to be but could do with more funding to upgrade. Buzzer systems need to be more up to date which would allow more than one device to be plugged in e.g. Nurse call button, sensor mat, sensor cushion.

My mother was admitted into Gowrie House on 12th March 2018. The whole experience of her admittance and her settling in was all done in a very nurturing and caring way.

How to start off describing my life over the past two years is no easy task.
Firstly, the shock of the sudden death of our beloved son, followed shortly after my diagnosis of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, was too much for my body to bear.

I don't remember much of the rest of the next year and a half, except being in hospital a lot for chemotherapy. I believe I suffered terrible "mind" disorders, but with the excellent care of all at Gowrie House, I have come back to "life" again and my memory has returned (for my age!). I know that, without the good care and attention of all members of staff, I would not have made this miraculous recovery.
