Grandholm Care Home provides general nursing care for people over the age of 65 and to those with dementia-related conditions. The purpose-built home is equipped for 79 residents, and is located just a few miles away from Aberdeen City Centre and the local seaside.

The home is equipped with modern amenities, and residents enjoy bright and spacious single bed accommodation with their own en-suite facilities for privacy and convenience.

Beautifully appointed lounge and dining facilities are available throughout the home so that residents can enjoy home cooked meals and afternoon tea with family and friends.

A varied activities programme is available to residents, with the convenience of a local area that is excellent for both entertainment and heritage, with a theatre and cinema nearby, as well as a museum and the famous Victoria Country Park.

Although my review is dated November 2019, it could apply to anytime during the last 18 months. My wife has been a resident there for over 2 years. After caring for her at home since 2001 her needs became such that it became necessary to have her admitted to a nursing home. I chose Grandholm because
we visited her sister there for a number of years previously and found her care was very good, so decided that my wife would be well cared for there. This has indeed been the case and since the new manager took over, the standards have improved to an even higher level.

In the year and a half that my mother was a resident, I really could not fault this home. The manager has an excellent rapport with her staff, and every one of them knows what is expected of them. My mum was cared for with dignity and respect. The nursing staff were second to none at the end of my mum's
life and throughout her illness. My mum enjoyed the food, in fact, she thought she was in a hotel. There were so many little touches, and the family was involved at every point. Amazing.

It is clear the manager is giving well considered thought to changes to be made.
She has deep insight into care of the elderly and management issues.
I am confident that the raised standards will be maintained, if not even improved further. The beginning of her post must have been herculean.

My grandad has been resident since August 2018. He is extremely well looked after. The staff are always cheerful and kind. The rooms and social spaces are very clean and there is a lovely atmosphere.

My dad has been in this home since September 2018. It is an apprehensive procedure to go through but I could not be happier with the choice we made. Dad is kept clean and very well fed. Carers take time to chat with residents at the same time as looking after their welfare. Entertainment is organised
for those able to participate. I live/work in Edinburgh so only visit once per week, being in Grandholm I have no need to worry as his every need is taken care of in a professional and caring manner. Mum visits regularly and is always made welcome. His room is comfortable and all areas of the home are clean and well maintained. I feel management, office staff, carers, nursing staff are all approachable people. I would highly recommend Grandholm to anyone, it has given my family peace of mind to know our family member is being looked after well.

My husband has received top class care and attention since he went into the EMI floor of Grandholm last July, I cannot praise the management team or any of the staff highly enough. We noticed a change in him quite quickly, he settled in well as he appeared to feel more understood than he had whilst
still at home, with everything on the one floor he could mobilise and go about independently on his bike, (wheelchair). The floor staff are all very attentive and watch him closely for any changes, like infections or when his mood is low, I have been very touched to see just how affectionate and supportive they are when any of the residents seem to be low or struggling.
We feel very fortunate as a family to have been given such a tailored care package, Grandholm is close to home, easy to get to and the house itself is always immaculately clean and fresh smelling throughout, the food is good, especially all the home baking.

I am happy that the service that my partner receives from carers and nurses is adequate for her needs. The laundry service could be better run. Lots of clothes seem to go missing for a couple of days or put into the wrong rooms or go missing forever.

My relative is happy and contented in Grandholm. I feel the staff listen to any comments, niggles I might have and act on them most of the time. I am satisfied with the service at this time. I am pleased to hear that the rooms will be redecorated and hopefully bedding and curtains will be replaced and
that my relative will be able to choose designs and colours.

My Mother has recently started going to Grandholm for respite and it is a wonderful place that she thoroughly enjoys going to which gives us peace of mind to enjoy our respite too. Staff are lovely, food good, activities and rooms both excellent.

My mum is new to Grandholm Care Home in Aberdeen she has only been in here for a short time. The place is very well run by the manager's nurses and staff alike to put someone you love very much in the hands of someone else is very hard to do. With each passing day, I get more relaxed about my mother
as the staff seem to sort out any problem efficiently with no hassle. They treat the elderly and frail with very much dignity and kindness.

My late mother was admitted under interim care in December. The care she had was second to none. The staff were very friendly and always spoke when we visited. Sadly, when she took a turn for the worse, the staff and management couldn't do enough for her. They were magnificent with us too, nothing was
any bother. I would highly recommend this care home and it's lovely caring staff.

My mother has been a resident at Grandholm for seven years. My family, and I are very happy with the care she receives. There was a difficult patch at Grandholm in 2012 but the hard work of the staff turned things around and made the home into a warm, caring place again - some of the staff are really
outstanding. My mother is not able to eat on her own and due to the care she receives, her weight has remained stable for a long time. I always find that the staff are responsive to requests and do their best to make sure my mother is looked after in accordance with family wishes.

My mother has been in Grandholm since February and we cannot believe the improvement in her. She looks ten years younger, she laughs and jokes with us when we visit and has been out more often in these few months than she had been in the last five years. She laughs and seems to get on well with all
the people who work with her. We have always visited at different times, making sure we avoid mealtimes. The staff do not know when to expect us and we are always greeted with smiles. I feel if they had anything to hide we would be told when to visit.

My mum entered Grandholm in February. When we went to view the home we were impressed that the staff knew everyone by name. The size of the rooms are excellent and Grandholm is spotlessly clean. Since moving in, my mum has made friends, has gained weight and is happy and content. She loves all the nurses
and carers calling them darling or sweetheart, which if she didn't like them she wouldn't be nice to them all. I would have no qualms about recommending Grandholm as a care home to anyone looking to place a family member.

I would only suggest this home for respite or short term in an emergency. I feel the staff are generally very good however I am not impressed with management as there seems very little management and communication within the care home. And after a complaint this year management have at no time ask me
if I am satisfied with the changes that have been made.

Excellent staff on care duties but have doubts about the domestic and housekeeping abilities as well as laundry service that is continually breaking down which results on clothes disappearing!! Why do they not have resources and working equipment, rather pay more than get this level of service.

My mum has recently moved into Grandholm and has settled in well. The care and kindness my mum has received is more than I could have wished for. The staff always have a smile and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them, very caring and thoughtful staff who have a very demanding job at times.

My husband has been very happy and settled down well at Grandholm, suffering from Alzheimer's and Dementia it is all I can wish for. The staff are caring and friendly although often seem overstressed with a lot to cope with on occasion. Overall there is a happy atmosphere there.

Val has worked at Grandholm Care Home since 2020. She has been a registered nurse since 2010, after working in admin/accounts roles previously.
