Sheila has been with Laurels Lodge Care Home for over 20 years and started working as a Care Assistant while she was completing her Nursing Adaptation Course in the UK.
Sheila is a Registered General Nurse who had years of experience working in various clinical areas in a hospital setting in the Philippines before coming to the UK. After 4 months of arriving in the UK, Sheila received her NMC nursing registration and worked as a Staff Nurse at Laurels Lodge then worked her way up the ladder and became the Home Manager in 2012. Sheila has also completed the SVQ Level 4 in Leadership and Management in 2010.
Outside of work, Sheila likes listening to music and cross-stitching, but she has also participated in exciting events such as white water rafting and Go Ape.
Sheila values her team and always makes it a point to thank them even in the simplest of things and she believes in the saying, "Why leave it for tomorrow when you can do it today".
Jay first arrived in the UK in 2004. Completed his Nursing Adaptation Course in 5 months and became a Full Registered General Nurse in the UK in the same year. Jay has clinical nursing experiences in the Philippines and other countries and spent the first 9 years of his nursing career at Laurels Lodge Care Home. Jay became the Charge Nurse of the home from 2006 to 2012 then Deputy Manager until 2013. Jay worked in other different Care Homes for many years as a Staff Nurse and Deputy Manager and came back to Laurels Lodge in 2021.
Jay loves music and dancing. He enjoys hiking and exploring Scotland's most beautiful places with his family.
Jay believes that "Life is a quest filled with many choices, each one of us will experience life in our special way".
Amanda is the longest-serving member of staff at Laurels Lodge Care Home, she has been an employee at Laurels for 23 years now, she started as a Care Assistant and worked her way up to become a Senior Nursing Care Assistant.
Amanda plays various roles in the home, she is currently the home’s Moving & Handling Coordinator, Dementia Ambassador, Oral Health Champion, Enquiry Champion, Fire Warden and Infection Prevention & Control Champion.
Joanna has worked as a Care Assistant at Laurels Lodge Care Home for 12 years now and continues to enjoy her job. Joanna also works as a part-time Cook and is also good at it.
She has been chosen as the Laurels Gem of the Month for March 2023 for her dedication and compassion, she is ready to go that extra mile for the residents and the home.
Joanna is a jolly person and is well known in the home to be always "on the go". Joanna is also one of the Oral Care and IPC Champions in the home.
Nomeda has made a difference in our catering department since she joined Laurels Lodge Care Home.
She has managed the kitchen and her team effectively and is a proactive leader.
Nomeda is a cat lover and together with her pet Bengal, they have joined various competitions which they have won many times. Nomeda also likes travelling and spending time outdoors.
Nomeda believes that "tomorrow will be a better day."
Morag has been with Laurels Lodge Care Home for over 13 years now, she believes that working in the home has changed her life significantly for the better. Morag enjoys spending time with the residents and sharing a laugh with them and with her colleagues. Many times Morag went above and beyond for the residents and the home.
Morag loves being a grandmother and she spends most of her days off looking after her niece and grandson.
Morag believes in the saying that "laughter is the best medicine".
Helen joined the team at Laurels Lodge as a Care Assistant, a totally new career path for her. Helen has recently taken on the role of a full-time Activities Coordinator and she is enjoying it. She has stepped into this new role with passion and enthusiasm, always putting the residents first.
Helen believes in the saying, "What's afore you won't get you."
Ivy works at Laurels Lodge as a full-time Laundry Assistant, she joined the team more than 8 years ago and still enjoys working here. Ivy participates in the activities in the home and enjoys speaking to the residents.
Her motto is: "There's always a light at the end of the tunnel."
Kevin works at Laurels Lodge as a Domestic Assistant, he enjoys helping his colleagues and he loves spending talking to the residents. Kevin is very good at keeping the interiors of the home clean, tidy and presentable.
Outside work, he loves dressing up as Boy George on special occasions.
Kevin believes in facing the problem right away rather than leaving it until it builds up.
Vibelaine likes to be called Vibz. She is a Staff Nurse at Laurels Lodge Care Home and has been working since 2019. Vibz is an international nurse hired from the Philippines, she completed her OSCE within 3 months and became a Registered General Nurse in the UK. Vibz enjoys working at Laurels Lodge and gets on well with her colleagues.
Outside work, Vibz likes spending time with Family and Friends travelling, camping and hiking.
Vibz believes in the saying "What does a man profit if he gains the whole world but loses his soul".
Originally from Nottingham, John moved to Scotland after 17 years in the military, he decided to work in the healthcare sector as he is looking for a job that is rewarding. Since John joined the team at Laurel's, he has developed a good rapport with the residents and his colleagues.
The things John likes to do are wild camping and touring on his motorcycle, and the things to know about John amongst many things is that he is a qualified diving instructor!
