Mum is being so well cared for in Burnside. All staff are friendly and approachable. Their kindness and encouragement have helped Mum to settle in and participate in a variety of activities. As visitors, we are always met with a welcoming, friendly attitude and know that she is safe and being treated
with dignity.

The team at Burnside, and in particular, all individuals within the Scotston unit, looked after Dad for the three months between November and February. The quality of nursing and general care was exemplary. The staff always had time to chat when we visited to explain any changes in Dad's condition,
and communicated effectively in a timely way by telephone when we requested updates. If anything did change, they were very proactive in contacting us.
Dad was always made comfortable and was never anxious whilst in the care of the Scotston team.
We could not have expected anything more from the entire professional staff team.
Reply from Marion Gordon, Home Manager at Burnside Nursing HomeThank you, Mark, for your very kind and encouraging words; this is very much appreciated by all our team within the home, and in particular, Scotston Staff.

I am very pleased with the care Mum receives. Staff are always very friendly and helpful whenever we ask them anything. One of the main things for me, regarding Mum's care, is that she is treated kindly and I feel that she certainly is.

Burnside Nursing Home has been my sister's home for the last five years. I have been more than happy with the care and attention that she has received throughout that time.
I live more than 100 miles from Burnside and am reassured by how she is looked after by the staff and how they compassionately
keep me informed by telephone about her now that she has been bedridden for more than two years.
The staff are always kind to my sister and all family relatives who visit her.

I have found no issues with my father's care, he is given full attention and treated with full respect. When Dad first arrived he enjoyed taking part in most things and enjoyed an outing in the minibus. Bud sadly, he has lost most of his mobility and can't do this anymore. The staff have been very attentive
in helping Dad as he needs more support. I feel he is very safe in this environment and I also have comfort knowing this.

The staff are extremely friendly and caring. Always willing to allow Mum's great-grandchild to visit her, which really makes her day as Mum plays games such as dominoes, cards etc. Was really pleased with the outings she has had and her sports day. She won a medal and a cup, which made me smile. I know
that Mum is safe and has the best people looking after her.

My mum has been in Burnside care/nursing home for four years now. I cannot praise the staff, over that time, for the care they have given and shown her. During Covid, which was a very stressful and emotional time for everyone, the staff were fantastic and kept the residents safe. I take comfort that
my mum s being cared for 24/7. Thank you.

Burnside Care Home is a home from home. The warmth of the welcome is amazing and nothing is too much trouble for the staff, like all the staff take pride in their work. The food is excellent and you have to be really fussy if you can't find something you can't eat. Management are very open and approachable
which engages a good rapport with all staff. I would recommend Burnside to anyone.

Both my Mum and Dad have been residents of Burnside for the last +3 years. Sadly, Dad recently passed away and this caused me to stop and reflect on the quality of care provided by Burnside. Dad was so well looked after and it was lovely to see him develop such a strong bond with a number of the staff.
I appreciate that ‘caring’ is what you do, but I feel that at Burnside, you successfully combine top-quality care together with compassion and a sense of fun – a great mix that creates a lovely environment for the residents. It was an environment/atmosphere which suited Dad down to the ground. Although this review was really prompted by Dad's passing, Mum, who recently celebrated her 91st birthday, is also very happy and content at Burnside. Thank you to all members of staff.

My father has been in Burnside care home throughout lockdown. The staff have worked so hard to keep all residents Covid-19 free but allow families to communicate through window visits and Skype. He was the first person I knew to have his 2 vaccinations given. My father is profoundly deaf yet we have
managed to work with staff to see how he is and keep in touch with the outside world. Today I managed to get into his room to see him after a Covid-19 screen. It was amazing to just sit with him and see him in person again. I have to give credit to the amazing staff who have had quite journey to reassure residents and their families and to keep in touch regarding health issues. They are responsive to our enquires on how Dad is and I appreciate that they print and deliver my weekly letters to Dad. It is very challenging for all care homes at the moment but a big well done and thank you to Burnside staff for their efforts.
Reply from Marion Gordon, Home Manager at Burnside Nursing HomeDear Heather, thank you so much for putting your trust in us to look after your Dad. We understand how difficult the past year has been for families and it means a great deal to everyone at Burnside for you to be able to see that the team are doing their best. Our Mum was admitted to Burnside Nursing Home in early January, having spent six months in hospital following a major stroke. Having spent weeks investigating various nursing homes in the area, Burnside was the only place that we felt confident could meet Mum’s medical needs. The manager and staff made
Mum very welcome and we immediately felt that she was in safe hands, despite Covid restrictions. The communication from the nursing staff and carers was helpful since restrictions meant we were unable to visit. We would recommend this care home to anyone who may be at that stage, where a nursing home decision is imminent.

My Dad is currently in Burnside for Respite care. I cannot fault the care he is receiving. He is very settled and not in a hurry to go home. Cannot thank the admin staff and nurses enough for everything. Even went to the lengths to take photos of him and send them to me. Thank you all.
Reply from Marion Gordon, Home Manager at Burnside Nursing HomeYour kind review is greatly appreciated by the team and myself at Burnside Care Home. We understand how difficult the current situation is for families and loved ones of our residents and have tried very hard to try to find new ways to keep families in touch and up to date. It means a lot to have this recognised. Thanks again.

Both my parents have been resident at Burnside for approx 3 years. I can’t recommend this home more highly. Staff are efficient but caring and most staff have been employed there for many years. There seem to be fewer temporary/agency nurses employed which I believe helps with continuity of staff, and
thus makes a difference to residents, particularly those with dementia. I would not hesitate to recommend Burnside to anyone contemplating any level of care for their family member.

Burnside is a fantastic home for our mother. The home and rooms are lovely decorated with beautiful garden space. The staff are absolutely brilliant, very caring and compassionate. They have done a fantastic job during this very hard time and they have all worked so hard. Our mum is happy and very well
looked after which has given us peace of mind till we can go and visit her again.

My father has been at Burnside for over 13-months, and the care and compassion he has received has been first-class. During the time he has been in the nursing home, he has had some ups and downs regarding his health, the communication has always been very good, always keep my family updated. The food
has been good and my father on his good days, has eaten very well; having two bowls of porridge, eggs and toast for breakfast, soup and sandwiches for lunch and main course and sweet for tea along with tea and biscuits in between. Any visitors who are there when tea and biscuits are supplied for the residents; offer them to the visitors as well. The staff from the management, carers, nurses and anyone else I or my father have dealings with, are friendly, funny and happy, which makes the whole place function well.
My family cannot thank all the staff enough for the care given to my dad.

I would like to leave a review of my uncle's care since he has been a resident for the last year. I find the staff are very friendly and they go out of their way to help with anything my uncle needs.
I love the entertainment they put on for the residents, and everybody seems to enjoy a bit of fun with
the staff. I'm sure I could not find a better care home for my uncle.

Burnside is run with a friendly, relaxed family atmosphere, with staff knowing patients needs, likes etc. and nothing is too much trouble. Staff also get to know family members and they are well informed of any changes in health or needs. Plenty of space inside and out so patients can do their own thing.
Patients encouraged to change things in rooms to make it feel like home. Excellent food as I discovered at Dad's birthday tea which the home organised. Wide range of activities if patients want to join in.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.602)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.602) out of 10 for Burnside Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.627 for Burnside Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (155 Excellents x 5) + (57 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 225 Ratings = 4.627
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Burnside Nursing Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
