I am very grateful for all the care my husband receives while staff show him much respect and all care given to him.
He is encouraged to still use the skills that he still has which is a great comfort to me.
All staff also show much comfort to me as emotionally it was very hard for me to make this
decision for nursing care.
The home is clean and everybody is cheery as they all work together and provide excellent standards of care.

What wonderful comments to read about our home. At Kingsmills, our team are dedicated to providing the best possible care for our residents, and of course this also means giving excellent support for families as we understand what a difficult decision it is choosing a care home for a loved one. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, the Home Manager and team will be touched to read your kind words.

My sister has been a resident for a short period. This is my first personal contact with a care home. The approach and parking is very good. Security is as normal in homes. Homes appearance is pleasing. Rooms could be a bit bigger and ensuite is cramped for anyone using a walker. No showers included
only disappointment. Food and presentation very good and staff are generally interested in residents.

Thank you for your positive review of our home. At Kingsmills, we pride ourselves on the high standard of care that we offer, including our dining experience, so it is great to hear that you find the food to be ‘very good’. Our rooms have recently been refurbished to the highest specifications, and residents are encouraged to personalise their space to make it their own. We will happily rearrange or remove unwanted pieces of furniture to allow more space for those who request it. All of our rooms are en-suite with toilet and wash basin facilities, and there are bath and shower facilities on each floor for residents to use with our without assistance. Thanks again for your review, we appreciate all feedback as this helps us further improve the service we provide.

Since my father came to stay at your nursing home it seems as if he is getting better. This is not possible due to his illness, but with his perfect care with you he is able to be the best he can. I thank you, all the staff are such fun and mum and I enjoy our visits with dad. Thank you.

Mum has only been in Kingsmills a few weeks after transferring from another home in Inverness. The care from carers and nursing staff in Kingsmills is far superior to her previous home. I can now relax knowing she is showered regularly, clothes changed daily and communication by staff to me about Mum
is first class. If I were to point out one negative is that more activity coordinators are needed to ensure out of house activities.
Reply from Carmen Delos Trinos, Home Manager at Kingsmills Care Home

Thank you for your positive comments about our home. It is great to hear you think the care given to your mum is excellent and our communication is ‘first class’. Our Magic Moments Club offers a range of activities and fun things to do that are open to all of our residents. Getting outdoors and into the fresh air is important to us, so much so that we have a Fresh Air Strategy to encourage regular use of our gardens and outdoor spaces when the weather permits. This includes enjoying a range of trips and excursions. Why don’t you pop in and see me when you’re next in the home and we can have a chat about what activities your mum would like to do?

Mum was admitted as emergency respite and from initial contact has been made very welcome and well looked after. Now a resident she has improved vastly which may be put down to the care she is receiving and the company, both staff and other residents that she now has. Variety of outings and social events
passes the time for them all and everyone seems to enjoy themselves. Staff could not be more helpful and always seem to be cheery.

Sometimes more staff need to be employed.
Clothes/items go missing, some are located sometimes.
More variety in food.
Portions need to be a bit larger.
Reply from Rebekah Saint, Marketing Executive at Kingsmills Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to review our home, it’s great to see that you think so highly of our team members and our activity programme.
Each resident has a food passport that documents their likes and dislikes and they are always given a choice of food at mealtimes. Further to this, we hold monthly relative and residents’ meetings where we discuss how we can improve the service provided including alterations to the menu.

Although some items of clothing went missing just after your sister was admitted we managed to locate and return these to her. Since the addition of name tags, we haven’t had any more items go missing.
Regarding staffing, we always operate with safe levels and take into account the individual needs of the residents in the home at that time and this is regularly reviewed to reflect any changes. As always, our home manager has an open door policy and should you wish to discuss any issues further, would be happy to see you at your earliest convenience.

Appears well run home with staff on hand if needed. Rooms always tidy and well kept.
Food appears good and menu options well chosen.
Always warm and comfortable for residents.
Staff very friendly and helpful to relatives and answer any questions. In case of emergencies, they are always in contact
with families and good at keeping them updated.
Things of little importance of my mother's go missing from time to time but this seems to be normal, as rooms appear open to all residents.

Mum has lived in Kingsmills Care Home for around 4 years. Although she was initially very reluctant to move there from her own home, she quickly became very happy. She is kept nicely dressed, loves the food, the staff treat her like a person and are affectionate, especially the music and going out for
a run in the minibus. We feel that the home strive to maintain good standards and if there are any issues we are notified of them but without panic. We have peace of mind regarding mum's care.

I have had a tremendously positive experience in my new home.
I was very ill when I was admitted - suffering from a severe psychosis brought on by an overdose of prescribed drugs for Parkinson's disease.
Thanks to the care and attention I have received at the home I am now well on the way to recovery.
Certain
carers have been key in this as has been the excellent food and watchful care.
All is very well managed, unobtrusively.

The atmosphere at the home is bright, warm and cheerful.
The staff are friendly and hospitable.
My husband's admission to the home was traumatic for us both.
Our main concern was the administration of continuous oxygen, we lacked confidence in this aspect of care, the staff acted on this by undertaking
in-service training - restoring our confidence.
My husband would benefit from some one-to-one activities being introduced.

I always find the staff very welcoming when I visit my aunt and have gotten to know some of the other residents. I would like to see more activities for the residents as I feel that there is little stimulation for them and it is really sad to come into the lounge where people sit and sleep with the
TV on with no one watching and absolutely no conversation.

I am writing to thank the staff of Kingsmills Care Home for the excellent care they have provided for my parents for the best part of two years. In particular, I would like to thank everyone involved in my mum's trip to see her best friend at a local care home using the "wishing well" service. My mum
and I were taken to the care home, collecting flowers on the way and then they spent a couple of very happy hours talking about times gone by. They were both thrilled to see each other and it was lovely to see them talking so happily together. Thanks again to everyone involved.

Kingsmills Care Home is a friendly and welcoming care home with fantastic staff - I cannot praise them highly enough for the assistance they have provided to my mother since she moved in 6 months ago.

During a traumatic and stressful point in my mother's life, they cared, nurtured and assisted my

mother through the change in moving into assisted care facilities from her own home and a rapidly worsening illness, all while reassuring me that they would get her through this and back to being her old self. My mother is now so happy and cannot sing the praises of the home, staff and activities highly enough, and would happily recommend the transition from living in her own home to Kingsmills Care Home to anybody who asked her. The staff have also worked tirelessly to improve my mother's confidence and ability in being able to walk and move about unaided - and my mother recently delighted in demonstrating this to me - a sight I have not seen for over 2 years and did not expect to see again! One word - excellent!!

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.469)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.469) out of 10 for Kingsmills Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.761 for Kingsmills Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (37 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 46 Ratings = 4.761
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.708 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kingsmills Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.333
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
