Having visited the above care home over a period of 5 years I have noted the huge improvement from the way it was managed in earlier times - say 10 to 12 years ago or more.
I supported a lady at that time.
The first thing that is noticeable - there is now a fresh smell as you enter and although this
lady requires pads, I have never encountered an odour. Very friendly staff, from management to carers. I think that carers require a better salary and one extra carer would help! No time for love!!

My Aunt was only in the home for six weeks, but I couldn't have asked for a better place for her to be cared for at the end of her life. The staff were all extremely caring, helpful and kind. Nothing was any trouble and the staff were always keen to respond to suggestions and requests. The atmosphere
was lovely; calm and clean, with happy staff willing to have fun, and yet also to be supportive in a time of anguish and my aunt clearly loved the food! The care she received means a lot to me.

My mother has been in Kingsmills Care Home for 2 years now and has benefitted enormously from the considerate and professional approach of the staff which has enabled her to retain as much of her abilities as possible. She has enjoyed the companionship of other residents and seems very content.

Very friendly staff. Always caring and cheerful. Early days as husband has only been in home since October 2016. He is quite reclusive but staff try very hard to encourage him to participate.

Kingsmill is a friendly and welcoming care home with lovely staff. The manager and her team work extremely hard looking, after all, their residents and they are friendly and supportive relatives. They are always trying out new ideas and recently introduced music in the lounge which the residents really
enjoy and sometimes sing along to. Recently the staff put so much effort into ensuring the residents had a lovely Christmas from carol singing a visit from Santa and a lovely Christmas buffet. It's the little things that matter.

My mother had the best care we could possibly have wished for. For someone who only enjoyed the art class and chatting to other residents at meal times. Well trained staff who know how to encourage residents to accept their help a very important skill and one which enabled my mother to appreciate being
cared for and thus enjoy her last two years in comfort and security. Our family know she was in good hands and we cannot thank Kingsmills Care Home enough.

As a family, we are delighted with the excellent care, concern and consideration shown by all staff towards our relative who is happy and settled in the care home environment. Kingsmills Care Home has a welcoming and nurturing ethos and the staff are always friendly and approachable to us when we visit
or telephone. The staff work diligently to ensure a very high level of care is delivered and recently I have recommended the care home to several people. Wonderful staff. Superb care.

I have always found the home welcoming, staff cheery and open to discussions. The facilities are very clean and residents are looked after to a high standard. Meals are varied and appetising. What visiting always given tea/coffee in the lounge where we can sit and talk in private. Activities for the
residents are so enjoyable and they are so happy to join in. I have recommended Kingsmills to friends as I feel this is a safe and reliable nursing home where the family/friends and residents are well catered for and looked after.

My mother and father moved into Kingsmills Care Home around one year ago and felt very welcome from day one. Their rooms are bright, comfortable and clean, with easy access to their day room and dining room. There are daily activities, regular trips out. The restaurant and standard of meals are varied
and delicious. All the management, nursing and care staff are excellent. Every single one of them is friendly, caring and professional. This ensures both residents and relatives are confident that the care provided is of the highest standard, with this care and support available their safety and security are guaranteed and everyone is treated with respect and dignity they deserve. A first class care home!

I have experience of several care homes and this is the best of its type I have seen. The staff are caring, friendly and hard working, and management is approachable and receptive to suggestions. The home is kept clean and free from odours.
The clothes washing of residents is efficient. Food is of
a good standard and there are varied activities which are enthusiastically promoted by the relevant staff. Residents are carefully monitored both in their daily routine and general health, while preserving whatever independence they are still capable of. The home is well situated with a pleasant, secure rear garden area.

I visit my mother-in-law every 2 months or so travelling from Glasgow. I have always been favourably impressed by the warm ambience of the home and the friendly professionalism of the staff. There seems to be a reasonable programme of activities for both physical and mental stimulation of the residents.

This is a good well-run care home with lovely staff and an approachable manager.
Nothing is perfect for your relative but I have no complaints at all about the care provided.
If there is any small issue all it takes is a word with the manager and senior staff to resolve, e.g hair wash, cold drinks
etc.
Overall very satisfied with the care provided. Rooms could do with a new coat of paint.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.469)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.469) out of 10 for Kingsmills Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.761 for Kingsmills Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (37 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 46 Ratings = 4.761
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.708 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kingsmills Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.333
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
