Overall Experience
My friend has been a resident in Aaron House for four years. I moved her from an Edinburgh home to be nearer to where I live and have not regretted doing that. Since my friend doesn’t want to/can’t be included in the activities, etc, I only comment as an observer. It seems to me that the home goes out of its way to provide appropriate and varied activities for its residents, even recently in lockdown.

While it’s impossible for the same staff to be caring for the same resident all the time, I have found that the pool of staff who work with my friend is recognisable and it is very rarely that there is someone whom I have not previously met. The staff seem to me to work extremely hard and do all they can to meet the individual needs of residents.

My mum has been a resident since early last year and the care she has received has been wonderful. Staff are always friendly and compassionate and nothing is too much bother. During the Covid-19 pandemic, they kept the residents safe and happy and kept in touch with relatives by phone, WhatsApp video calls and Facebook posts of events taking place. When speaking to Mum, she says everyone is kind and she is well looked after. I am delighted I chose Aaron House for Mum and would recommended this care home 100%.

My mum has been in Aaron House for the past year, she has dementia. The staff are friendly and professional and have helped Mum greatly, the rooms are lovely and there are lots of activities for them to do. The meals are excellent and tailored for each person. Five stars to all.

Choosing a care home is too important to be left to chance - in my opinion, all facilities in a particular area should be visited if possible, ideally with other family members or friends for individual opinions. In my case 20 care homes were visited. A shortlist was chosen - then ultimately Aaron House. It has three wings, expansion bringing extra purpose-built space and light. Being part of a care home group Aaron House can offer shared services - for example, daily and monthly publications delivering attractions helpful for activities coordinators. Management/relatives discussion come monthly, with reasonable and sensible suggestions from all acted upon quickly, in my experience. Staff, I have learned, generally have long service at Aaron House. This suggests to me satisfaction and close ties, both for residents and staff. This care home ticks the boxes for standards generally expected of all well-managed homes; with staff, cleanliness and activities particularly outstanding. Aaron House has generous gardens with patios serving each wing, a boon in summer months when day trips to beaches and parks in The Lothians are also organised.

All of the carers work hard and are good with residents. They could do with being in the same section at all times, instead of being moved to different departments as the resident gets used to the same ones and that helps them, especially when they need their care and they get to trust them too.

Carers are amazing, can't do enough for service users and their families.
Staff nurses will take as much time as needed with families and the service users.

They need to keep staff in the same unit to help dementia users to have as much repetition as possible. All staff are very helpful.

A welcoming place to visit my mum. The staff know her really well now and this gives me great comfort. From the manager down to the cleaners they are all friendly and approachable. Current activities coordinator really interacts with the residents. A good atmosphere too.
