Barchester Drummond Grange is located on the edge of Lasswade, a picturesque village on the river North Esk and only six miles from Edinburgh.

It provides support to younger adults with physical disabilities who have a range of underlying conditions such as multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, spinal or brain injuries. The care home is able to support those requiring life support equipment.


Staff organise social and recreational programmes and generate a calm, homely atmosphere in the home. The home's care workers are experienced and skilled in meeting all individuals care needs now and in the future.

Absolutely terrible care home I came from another care home, it totally puts Drummond Grange to shame. The bed I'm in is old noisy and not flat very uncomfortable my disability restricts me to bed now. It might be closer and easier for friends and family to visit but I'm the one here so I need to put
myself first.

There is a bit of a problem about getting my husbands clothes mixed up after being at the laundry, it's understandable as there are so many patients at the care home the staff look out for things for me, as long as he's looked after as they are doing that's all that really matters , he's very happy
dancing when Sam sings he's a great nurse by the way so good at his job they all are at Drummond Grange it makes my life easier to know he's being well looked after thanks to everyone.

My daughter has been in Drummond Grange since June. She very settled. Staff are very good. She thrives on physical and mental activities. I would like to see her able to have more physio. It's always booked because it's so important for residents. The physio staff are very keen to bring the best
out of them and sometimes my daughter can't get in. I feel it's vital for her and admire the staffs dedication when she's in a session. I see such improvement the more she does and would certainly like for to do more.

Last week we reported no internet in room my dad is 88 years old and having online streaming services is his life line. This has been intermitent since 20th June. The maintenance person came in whilst not on duty and tried everything to get it working. This is a connection issue with interet.
I came
into the home today and he has now been moved to another room Telly is working but alarm not its been reported and I expect it to be working within next 24hrd if not sooner your staff have been great.

We are celebrating my brother's birthday - he's 60! His wife (my sister-in-law) is a resident at Drummond Lodge. We've had the most delicious lunch - six of us - in and beautiful room. The day feels special and this feels like a home from home. Welcoming, warm and caring.

My sister has been a resident at this care home for years, receiving consistently poor care. Despite her dementia, she is aware and deserves dignity. Staff frequently fail to provide her allotted cigarettes, causing distress. Since the beginning, it has seemed they did not truly welcome her. Only a
few, like one staff member in particular, offer compassionate care. She has been in and out of the hospital, yet the home's communication has been inadequate. She now suffers from severe pneumonia, heart issues, acid imbalance, and carbon monoxide in her blood-issues that should have been identified earlier. My mother had to fight for grab rails, and conditions, including soiled pads left in her bathroom, are unacceptable. Nurses in the unit has been unhelpful, and the manager lacks leadership. Should she pass due to negligence, we will take further action. This facility operates more like a prison than a care home, and the care provided is unacceptable.

Excellent but there needs to be a better ramp at main entrance which is easier for wheelchairs. Every time for the last year, I need to turn completely around to enter the building backwards.

I joined the home in 2008, previously in the role of Deputy General Manager, before becoming the home's General Manager in September 2022. I qualified as a General Nurse in 200,3, starting my career in Romania before moving to the UK in 2006.


I have 16 years of experience working with younger people and those living with Dementia, and am passionate about ensuring all of our residents receive the best possible care and experience. My team and I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

After training as a nurse in Romanian Ana came to Drummond full time in 2014 as a Carer and quickly moved up the ranks to Senior carer, Nurse, Senior Nurse, and Charge nurse before becoming the home's deputy manager in 2022. Ana has a real passion for not only providing the best clinical care for our residents but also for emotional and mental and is a massive advocate to the activity team and carers in supporting them provide the very best al round care for our residents. When Ana is not working she enjoys spending time with her family including her daughter Sara who often comes into the home to visit everyone.

My Name is Brian. I have been a nurse all told for nearly 16 years. Having studied at Napier University in Edinburgh. I have worked with Barchester for around 12 years. I first joined as part of the night shift team, which I have been doing for 7 years. Being in charge of a unit has its own challenges, one of which I relish. Making a real difference in our residents' lives is a wonderful thing to see. For most of our residents, we become a surrogate family. It is important to us all that a strong family feeling is important.


My life outside Drummond is all about my family, including my two dogs and, of course, my football team shhhhhh. Be it as a resident, staff member, or volunteer, come join us, you won’t regret it.

Gail heads a team of dedicated nurses and carers on our Pentland unit. She qualified from the Royal Infirmary in 1991 and started working for Barchester in 2000 working in a few of our homes in various roles including charge nurse, deputy manager and home manager. She returned to work at Drummond Grange in 2019. She is very passionate about her work and involves herself in all aspects of the unit's workings. Gail is helped by her ‘assistant’ Rosie, her rescue dog who will often come to work with her.

Angelita is one of our Charge Nurses here at Drummond and is head of our Buccleuch unit. Qualifying as a nurse in the Philippines in 1992, Angelita spent time working as a nurse in Saudi Arabia before coming to the UK in 2006 to work for the NHS. In 2018 she started working as a peripatetic nurse for Barchester before becoming a full-time charge nurse in Drummond in 2022. When she’s not at work she enjoys Philippian church charity organisations and leading the church choir.

Laarni is one of our Charge Nurses and the head of our Dalhousie unit here at Drummond Grange. She trained as a nurse in the Philippines, qualifying in 1995 before coming to Scotland and continuing her training in 2003 as a senior carer in our other Barchester homes before qualifying as a nurse and moving to Drummond in 2005.


When Laarni is not at work, she enjoys hosting her large family and adding to her large collection of handbags.

Hi, my name is Susanne and I am Drummond Granges resident ambassador. I have been in Drummond Grange since March. As an ambassador, I want to keep the home a nice place to live help with other concerns and to be the voice of the residents. I have a husband and a four-year-old little girl who both visit the home often. Before coming to Drummond I worked in the financial industry as a manager and mentor as well as a health, well-being and engagement coach. I now use my previous skills to help in my role as ambassador and love that through this role I can continue to help others.

Hi, I’m Susan I joined Barchester in 2017, working across the 4 Barchester homes in the Edinburgh area. Coming to Barchester has allowed me to combine my passions of Health and Social care and training. Before my role in Barchester, I was a trainer in retail and a Support Worker for adults with learning disabilities. I am passionate about ensuring everyone who attends our Barchester training has a positive experience that allows them to carry on shining in the care homes for our fantastic residents
