Barchester Drummond Grange is located on the edge of Lasswade, a picturesque village on the river North Esk and only six miles from Edinburgh.

It provides support to younger adults with physical disabilities who have a range of underlying conditions such as multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, spinal or brain injuries. The care home is able to support those requiring life support equipment.


Staff organise social and recreational programmes and generate a calm, homely atmosphere in the home. The home's care workers are experienced and skilled in meeting all individuals care needs now and in the future.

Last weekend, we had visitors from France who are lifelong friends of my husband through a shared love of rugby. Drummond Grange helped us to host a get-together for my husband's family and friends. The staff couldn't do enough for us, and we are so grateful to everyone for making the day so special.

In general, we have been satisfied with the care my dad has received. However, in February we received a call to say there was some bruising on my dad's side. They could not explain how it happened. It took a long time for the bruising. Despite speaking to all staff, nobody admitted anything. So it
remained a mystery how it happened. We always worry anyone could walk in, it's not very secure. We should get a discount on food as Dad is peg-fed and can't eat.

The nursing and care are excellent. Although a large home, the staff all seems to know the resident's name and their needs, and there is a happy, friendly vibe. My mother had a fall - the promptness, care and attention to her and me was of an excellent standard from everyone - we cannot praise them
enough. Always open to discussion and resolution if an issue arises, although we wait to see if new housekeepers can address laundry situations. Would prefer there was secure access at the front door.

Once again, astounded by the level of care, support and thought given to my brother and myself. The recent death of our sister was handled with great respect and dignity. They supported my brother in bringing him to the funeral and I would like to thank the two members of staff for being so kind and

Understanding that we have all just recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic, I think that the home has improved on a number of levels:
Personalised care has improved though I would rather more attention be given to residents, especially checking they are wearing clean clothes or dresses.
Plate sizes
and quality have improved though more seasonal fruits and vegetables would be most appreciated.
More credit to staff who are obliging and willing.

I have a good relationship with staff and manager. I have been going for respite for years, my husband was there for five years before he died 14 years ago. My daughter was there for six years in the home. My other daughter is in the home for four years, she will be there until anything happens to her,
I have no worries about the care she gets. They phone if anything is wrong. I am impressed with the care.

It is hard to quantify, but the staff are consistently positive and happy, and this feeling of well-being seems to transfer to the residents and their visitors who always feel welcomed. It is clear that the staff really care about those they care for. The home has a new manager, yet there was no discernible
change in the smooth running of the home. At a recent music festival organised for the benefit of the residents, all the care staff and management actively participated in a very enjoyable event. Cannot decide if I liked the zumba display, choir or hamburgers best.

I came to Barchester Drummond Grange Care Home on 27/06/23 after 6 months in hospital. When I came here I was confused and in a lot of pain. Having now settled, getting closer to accepting I'll never walk again. The staff have been amazing, kind, caring and professional. Everyone, carers, admin, carers,
cleaners. They create a friendly, open atmosphere. You are encouraged to make your room your own, you can join in or keep to yourself, and all choices are respected. I feel respected and listened to.

A very nice home. Food is good and plentiful. the grounds are beautiful for wheelchair walks and sitting outside. Very good daily activities. Onsite gym with physiotherapy staff. Trips to the hydrotherapy pool.

I want to say thank you to this team, all coming from heaven. They are angels and they know what they are doing. They are trying to do the best for my muscles, especially in my hands, they also do a great job with my legs. I want to thank all the carers, nurses and management. Thank you to the physio
team, they give me a chance to stand in the hydro pool, this was amazing. My wife is over the moon about my improvements. I can now eat and drink by myself, which I could not do in the hospital.

I joined the home in 2008, previously in the role of Deputy General Manager, before becoming the home's General Manager in September 2022. I qualified as a General Nurse in 200,3, starting my career in Romania before moving to the UK in 2006.


I have 16 years of experience working with younger people and those living with Dementia, and am passionate about ensuring all of our residents receive the best possible care and experience. My team and I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Anamaria is our Deputy Manager here at Drummond Grange. After training as a nurse in Romanian Ana came to Drummond full time in 2014 as a Carer and quickly moved up the ranks to Senior carer, Nurse, Senior Nurse, and Charge nurse before becoming the home's deputy manager in 2022. Ana has a real passion for not only providing the best clinical care for our residents but also for emotional and mental and is a massive advocate to the activity team and carers in supporting them provide the very best al round care for our residents. When Ana is not working she enjoys spending time with her family including her daughter Sara who often comes into the home to visit everyone.

My Name is Brian. I have been a nurse all told for nearly 16 years. Having studied at Napier University in Edinburgh. I have worked with Barchester for around 12 years. I first joined as part of the night shift team, which I have been doing for 7 years. Being in charge of a unit has its own challenges, one of which I relish. Making a real difference in our residents' lives is a wonderful thing to see. For most of our residents, we become a surrogate family. It is important to us all that a strong family feeling is important.


My life outside Drummond is all about my family, including my two dogs and, of course, my football team shhhhhh. Be it as a resident, staff member, or volunteer, come join us, you won’t regret it.

Gail heads a team of dedicated nurses and carers on our Pentland unit. She qualified from the Royal Infirmary in 1991 and started working for Barchester in 2000 working in a few of our homes in various roles including charge nurse, deputy manager and home manager. She returned to work at Drummond Grange in 2019. She is very passionate about her work and involves herself in all aspects of the unit's workings. Gail is helped by her ‘assistant’ Rosie, her rescue dog who will often come to work with her.

Angelita is one of our Charge Nurses here at Drummond and is head of our Buccleuch unit. Qualifying as a nurse in the Philippines in 1992, Angelita spent time working as a nurse in Saudi Arabia before coming to the UK in 2006 to work for the NHS. In 2018 she started working as a peripatetic nurse for Barchester before becoming a full-time charge nurse in Drummond in 2022. When she’s not at work she enjoys Philippian church charity organisations and leading the church choir.

Laarni is one of our Charge Nurses and the head of our Dalhousie unit here at Drummond Grange. She trained as a nurse in the Philippines, qualifying in 1995 before coming to Scotland and continuing her training in 2003 as a senior carer in our other Barchester homes before qualifying as a nurse and moving to Drummond in 2005.


When Laarni is not at work, she enjoys hosting her large family and adding to her large collection of handbags.

Hi, my name is Susanne and I am Drummond Granges resident ambassador. I have been in Drummond Grange since March. As an ambassador, I want to keep the home a nice place to live help with other concerns and to be the voice of the residents. I have a husband and a four-year-old little girl who both visit the home often. Before coming to Drummond I worked in the financial industry as a manager and mentor as well as a health, well-being and engagement coach. I now use my previous skills to help in my role as ambassador and love that through this role I can continue to help others.

Hi, I’m Susan I joined Barchester in 2017, working across the 4 Barchester homes in the Edinburgh area. Coming to Barchester has allowed me to combine my passions of Health and Social care and training. Before my role in Barchester, I was a trainer in retail and a Support Worker for adults with learning disabilities. I am passionate about ensuring everyone who attends our Barchester training has a positive experience that allows them to carry on shining in the care homes for our fantastic residents


Outside work, I enjoy live music going to gigs and spending my free time with my family and friends. My daughter is a regular visitor to the homes and loves joining in the many activities that our amazing homes organise.
