Barchester Drummond Grange is located on the edge of Lasswade, a picturesque village on the river North Esk and only six miles from Edinburgh.

It provides support to younger adults with physical disabilities who have a range of underlying conditions such as multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, spinal or brain injuries. The care home is able to support those requiring life support equipment.


Staff organise social and recreational programmes and generate a calm, homely atmosphere in the home. The home's care workers are experienced and skilled in meeting all individuals care needs now and in the future.

We brought our mother to visit her sister. It was our mother's 95th birthday. The staff were very helpful and we had a small gathering to celebrate our mother's birthday with her sister. We live in Plymouth so they do not get to see each other often due to their age and the travel.

Find this care home well run. Staff are kind and caring while under sometimes very difficult circumstances. Rooms need to be upgraded. Washable flooring, walk-in showers would be better for residents and staff for certain residents!! (Dementia). Barchester Drummond Grange Care Home is excellent and

My partner has been in care here for nearly 2 years and really likes it here. She is really well looked after and there is a lot for her to so. I think it is excellent and the staff are really nice and very helpful. The food is really nice and they have a really good choice. They all do a great job.

I have visited my friend who has been a resident of Barchester Drummond Grange Care Home for some time on a number of occasions. On each occasion, I find the staff are extremely helpful, the facilities to be clean and maintained to a high standard. The Grange is a bright airy place and has a warm friendly
atmosphere. Nothing is too much trouble for the manager and staff who genuinely care and go out of their way to ensure residents are well looked after with lots of activities to get everyone involved and made to feel important and not excluded.

Drummond Grange is simply the best care home in the Edinburgh area.
Excellent care staff, great management team and a lovely airy atmosphere with excellent lounges, dining rooms and bedrooms.
We look forward to taking mother out into the grounds in summer where the woodland setting with nice flowerbeds
will make her days happy.

My mother is being very well cared for. Her needs are met and the staff are very kind and caring. She was always very well dressed and the staff are keeping this up by coordinating her outfits, which I really appreciate.

In my view it is the biggest decision of your life to make; do you place your loved one in an 'institution'? Do you admit you cannot give the required care and attention any more and do you ask others to care for your loved one as much as you have tried to do? Having gone through this a year ago and
with my wife still in the care of Drummond Grange, I can honestly say all of my fears have been banished. The guilt will never leave, but knowing your loved one is cared for, respected and, dare I say it, so clearly loved by the staff, it makes life so much easier. I wouldn't wish the situation on anyone, but if you are in that position I would have no hesitation in entrusting the care of my loved one to Drummond Grange.

Although my husband has been in Drummond Grange Care Home for a short time there has been a marked improvement in his well being. His mood has lifted and he has begun to say more words. (He had almost lost all his speech). He is looking around more and engaging with others more, both family and carers.
There is also a marked improvement in his personal care, always clean and tidy.

Although I must say I am not happy to be here due to my circumstances, because of my requirement for care, I am content. I have found care provided has been excellent. The food is again excellent, the single most enjoyable and beneficial factor of my stay would be the physiotherapy.

Outstanding level of care and attention to my mother's needs.


Staff are so caring and committed to their work. Superb amount of entertainment. Beautiful grounds and the choice of food is fantastic. The rooms are currently to be upgraded but sitting areas are lovely.

There is no washing up liquid or cloth to wash up the cups and some cups are disgusting and nothing to clean the sink! very surprised at that.
Fingernails do not get cut we have to do it, very rarely does this happen. Sometimes he is cold when we go in, I don't know if they check or feel his arms?
He does not speak to tell.

Drummond Grange is a lovely home, I get on well with the manager and all the staff, they look after my daughter and they phone me if there are any problems.
I have a good relationship with them and have a good laugh with the staff. I have no worries about my daughter, they look after her well.

I joined the home in 2008, previously in the role of Deputy General Manager, before becoming the home's General Manager in September 2022. I qualified as a General Nurse in 200,3, starting my career in Romania before moving to the UK in 2006.


I have 16 years of experience working with younger people and those living with Dementia, and am passionate about ensuring all of our residents receive the best possible care and experience. My team and I look forward to welcoming you to our home.

Anamaria is our Deputy Manager here at Drummond Grange. After training as a nurse in Romanian Ana came to Drummond full time in 2014 as a Carer and quickly moved up the ranks to Senior carer, Nurse, Senior Nurse, and Charge nurse before becoming the home's deputy manager in 2022. Ana has a real passion for not only providing the best clinical care for our residents but also for emotional and mental and is a massive advocate to the activity team and carers in supporting them provide the very best al round care for our residents. When Ana is not working she enjoys spending time with her family including her daughter Sara who often comes into the home to visit everyone.

My Name is Brian. I have been a nurse all told for nearly 16 years. Having studied at Napier University in Edinburgh. I have worked with Barchester for around 12 years. I first joined as part of the night shift team, which I have been doing for 7 years. Being in charge of a unit has its own challenges, one of which I relish. Making a real difference in our residents' lives is a wonderful thing to see. For most of our residents, we become a surrogate family. It is important to us all that a strong family feeling is important.


My life outside Drummond is all about my family, including my two dogs and, of course, my football team shhhhhh. Be it as a resident, staff member, or volunteer, come join us, you won’t regret it.

Gail heads a team of dedicated nurses and carers on our Pentland unit. She qualified from the Royal Infirmary in 1991 and started working for Barchester in 2000 working in a few of our homes in various roles including charge nurse, deputy manager and home manager. She returned to work at Drummond Grange in 2019. She is very passionate about her work and involves herself in all aspects of the unit's workings. Gail is helped by her ‘assistant’ Rosie, her rescue dog who will often come to work with her.

Head of Buccleuch Community
Angelita is one of our Charge Nurses here at Drummond and is head of our Buccleuch unit. Qualifying as a nurse in the Philippines in 1992, Angelita spent time working as a nurse in Saudi Arabia before coming to the UK in 2006 to work for the NHS. In 2018 she started working as a peripatetic nurse for Barchester before becoming a full-time charge nurse in Drummond in 2022. When she’s not at work she enjoys Philippian church charity organisations and leading the church choir.

Laarni is one of our Charge Nurses and the head of our Dalhousie unit here at Drummond Grange. She trained as a nurse in the Philippines, qualifying in 1995 before coming to Scotland and continuing her training in 2003 as a senior carer in our other Barchester homes before qualifying as a nurse and moving to Drummond in 2005.


When Laarni is not at work, she enjoys hosting her large family and adding to her large collection of handbags.

Hi, my name is Susanne and I am Drummond Granges resident ambassador. I have been in Drummond Grange since March. Care Assistants
As Care Assistants at Drummond Grange Care Home, we help residents enjoy each day by making sure they get the quality care and support they deserve. We assist with daily living, providing support and companionship – and sharing great moments and memories too. Every day is different, and our work is as varied as it is rewarding. As Care Assistants, you could be doing anything from supporting residents with their food and drink and following care plans to ensuring that each of our residents has one-to-one time.
