From the moment my mum entered Colinton Care Home, I have had nothing but praise and admiration for all the staff and management. They made my mum very welcome, as they did our family. It was not an easy decision for us to put our mum in a care home, but everyone could not have helped Mum settle in
as easy as she has, which has made us as a family accept that we made the right decision. Their care and attention has been continuous throughout her stay. Thank you.

I am very pleased with the care my grandad is receiving in Colinton. I have confidence that he is safe and well cared for. The staff are all lovely, very friendly and always in good humour. The home is always clean and tidy however I feel it could do with refurbishment as the decor is beginning to look
a bit tired but this doesn’t take away from the excellent care that is provided to the residents.

Colinton has provided a friendly, caring and comfortable home for my father over the past year. There are true stars among the nursing staff and carers, working with compassion and good humour. The support staff in the office, cleaning and catering are always polite and friendly and working hard aswell.
Some minor upgrades are ongoing/desirable, but fundamentally, the house and its grounds are lovely.

Very caring, hard-working, attentive and friendly staff. They are very helpful and keep me well-informed about Dad's current condition.

My father was given the best possible care from his first day to his last in Colinton Care Home. He was treated with dignity, respect and gentle banter by all the staff, whether nursing, caring or auxiliary. Staff also ensured that I was well informed of any changes to my father's health and well-being,
and were always guided by what would achieve the best outcome. All staff are warm and empathetic to residents and their family members. I cannot recommend Colinton more highly.

I was very happy with the care provided by the Colinton Care Home staff for my elderly and confused aunt. The staff were patient and kind and helped her settle into the home where she stayed for three months before she died. It was a difficult and upsetting time for her but the staff made her welcome
and she liked her homely surroundings which were clean and comfortable. As a family member, it was reassuring for me to see she was being well cared for and nothing was a problem for the staff. I was kept informed of her care needs and any changes to treatment/management that occurred. My aunt had several physical and mental health issues and I felt the staff managed these well and as a relative, I felt my opinions were listened to and that was important to me. Thank you to the staff for skillfully and sensitively taking care of my aunt in her final months.

The staff and management were very helpful and good with my husband. They always had time to stop and visit him and help where required, very professional but also very friendly. They helped us deal with his end of life with compassion and care. We can only thank them for all their care of the family

I would like to say how much I appreciate the care that my Mum received during the 11 months she was a resident in Colinton Care Home. It is a difficult time when you realise your loved one needs round-the-clock care and the staff could not have done more to make the transition any better than they
did. It was such a relief for us to feel assured that Mum was being well cared for and was safe. In her last few weeks, the staff were outstanding and provided incredible care to Mum and to us as a family. It was obvious that they genuinely cared about her and were committed to providing the best care possible. At all times I observed staff being kind to all the other residents too and were always cheerful and warm. They should all be very proud and are all wonderful. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone as the standard of care is exceptional. Thank you for everything, it meant such a lot to us.

Although our mum was only with Colinton Care Home for a very short time, she was looked after wonderfully by all the staff there. They embraced her and cared for her in a way which exceeded our expectations and showed professionalism, compassion and love for her at the end of her life. My sister and
I could not have wished for a better experience and we would like to thank everyone at Colinton Care Home for everything they did for our mum and us. It will never be forgotten.

Colinton Care Home has transformed my husband and my lives, from one of worry, anxiety and illness to a lighter, happier existence with excellent care. My husband is happy again, well cared for, healthier and stimulated. The home is cheerful and has so many fantastic activities and trips. The staff
are genuinely caring, cheerful and fun. The positive 'can do' attitude comes from the top, the manager is fantastic, approachable and very kind.

My much-loved mum was a resident in Colinton Care Home for just over two and a half years. I've previously commented on the excellent standard of care and happy atmosphere at Colinton, but I would like to add a further comment on the care and compassion shown by staff when Mum died recently. It was
a great comfort to our family to witness the tenderness of the carers when looking after her during her final days. It's worth noting that Mum often spontaneously said during her stay at Colinton "I feel safe here" and "Everyone here makes me feel so special". I am grateful to the whole team for their dedication and commitment to the residents in their care. Their ability to rise to the challenges of delivering safe, personalised, compassionate care during the extreme challenges of the pandemic was remarkable. I couldn't have asked for a better care home.

My dad moved into Colinton Care Home a year ago, just after my mum died. Dad is so well looked after by the marvellous staff. He loves the food and has put on much-needed weight since he's been in the home. The manager is brilliant and initially spent so much time working with Dad and our family to
get Dad settled in. Dad now constantly tells me how happy he is. The beautiful garden is an additional bonus and means that Dad can get outside for a walk and for fresh air. I cannot praise Colinton Care Home enough.

I arranged for an elderly couple, who have no relatives, to move into Colinton Care Home last year and have been more than satisfied with their care there. Last month, one of them died, and I have been impressed and delighted with the support and care given to the survivor. There is a warmth in the
atmosphere in the home, and they have tried extremely head to keep residents safe while allowing visits for them in a more reasonable way than some other homes.

I am full of praise for Colinton Care Home. My mother, who died in March was a resident there for nearly three years. When she moved into the home with Alzheimer’s she was anxious and withdrawn with no interest in food but over time she gained weight and became calm and relaxed. Unprompted she would
repeatedly tell me that she could not be better looked after. The home is a pleasant, clean, welcoming and positive environment and the gardens are beautiful. This all meant that I felt cared for too and went home knowing that my mother was safe. There are plenty of group activities but allowances are made for those like my mother who preferred her privacy. As a relative I was kept fully up to date with any developments in the management of the home or changes in my mother’s condition or care. The respectful care she received in the last few weeks of life was excellent and a great comfort to me. This is a happy home that deserves to be recognised for its efforts and high standards.

I cannot speak highly enough of the management of Colinton Care Home through these extraordinarily difficult months. That they have remained free of Covid for so long speaks volumes and the way they are now managing the cases that have occurred shows resilience, creativity and concern for the interests
of all. The staff I meet are always very helpful and friendly and the home is immaculate. There is never any sense of the strain they are under, just business as usual with activities and celebrations of birthdays and plans for trips continuing as before. My friend is lucky to be there.

I have nothing but praise for this home. I arrived unannounced in 2010 to ask for an appointment with the manager, was invited in on the spot, indicating they had nothing to hide. There was a freshness and no smell! My friend settled in remarkably quickly.
When arriving for a visit, I was always greeted
with a smile. Initially, my friend took part in many of the varied activities, but as her memory deteriorated this stopped. In her last years she no longer knew anyone, but still greeted all visitors and staff with her wonderful smile. The staff clearly loved her.
The home has always been open and welcoming, especially since the current manager came. He is professional but also very caring of residents and staff. He has always been particular at keeping me informed about my friend. The whole home is well cared for; clothes kept in good order and returned to the correct room!
Once confined to bed, my friend was very well nursed, with real love; she never had any bedsores, and when she required to be fed this was done with patience, kindness and even some laughter!

If you are looking for a care home that provides the highest standard of individual care, respect, choice and empathy for your relative this is the best. My aunt was looked after so well as her illness caused her health to deteriorate. The manager, assistant manager and Colinton Care Home team were
fantastic, keeping me up-to-date with her health and general wellbeing and always a warm welcome when I visited. Throughout the Covid pandemic, the care home has managed to continue to provide a wide choice of activities for the residents, while keeping them safe. Photos were taken of residents enjoying different activities indoors and, weather permitting, in the large, beautiful gardens. All areas of health are promoted by staff and her choice was always respected. In my aunt's last days her favourite music was playing quietly in the background and she was pain-free. The level of care and kindness shown to my aunt and those present will never be forgotten.

I have already left a review previously but as our mother passed away recently I wanted to commend and thank the team at Colinton Care Home, Topaz Unit, especially Mum’s nurse and the senior care assistant - Mum's nurse has been a rock and always an amazing friend to the family - she has always taken
such good care of Mum and kept us up to date at all times. She cares so much and being so far away from Mum she was integral to our peace of mind.
We know as a family that there is no way better care could have been given to our mum.
Thank you to Mum's nurse, the senior care assistant, the deputy and head of nursing and the manager and the Topaz team as a whole. You guys are amazing.

Elizabeth Cass

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2024

Liz Cass brings over 15 years of dedicated nursing experience, having served as a nurse, charge nurse, unit manager, and deputy manager.
From April 2014 to December 2022, she managed the dementia unit at Colinton Care Home and held the position of Deputy Manager. After a brief period of career development, Liz returned to Colinton as the Home Manager, motivated by her passion for elder care.
In her spare time, Liz enjoys adventurous outings with her son, whom she considers to be her greatest achievement outside of her work.
She advises families to trust their decision when choosing a care home. Liz is deeply committed to the happiness and well-being of her residents, always going above and beyond to meet their needs.
In her own words Liz says “My love for working with our older generation has never failed me and my residents are at the forefront of everything I do. I will go above and beyond to ensure the happiness and well-being of everyone within the home. “
