Guthrie House Care Home

Overall Experience 3.0 out of 5
My mother entered the care home in August 2025 & Sadly passed away in December 2025. The overall opinion of the care home was that mum was well looked after but certain aspects were in our opinion poor, food was of a poor overall standard, there seemed to be a lack of activities/social interaction,
on more than one occasion mum was in a distressed state awaiting help with toileting & we had to ask for assistance a few times before she was attended to. After mum passed, there was no communication from the care home despite sending an email to kindly thank them for their care & no representative from care home attended the funeral
Reply from Shirley Ramsay, Nursing Home manager at Guthrie House Care HomeThank you for sharing your feedback. We are very sorry to hear of your loss and extend our sincere condolences to you and your family. We appreciate your kind comments about aspects of your mother's care and are concerned to hear where we fell short. Providing high quality care, dignity, and support is our priority, and it is disappointing that this was not consistently your experience.
Your comments about food, activities, and response times are taken seriously, and we will review these with our team to ensure improvements. We are also sorry for the communication issues you experienced after your mother's passing, as this is not the standard we aim to provide during such a difficult time.
We would welcome the chance to speak with you to better understand your concerns. Please feel free to contact us at your convenience. Thank you again for your valuable feedback.

Hillside Lodge Care Home

Overall Experience 2.0 out of 5
Overall experience in Hillside Lodge, not value for money regarding care, 20-minute wait to be taken to the toilet. 40 minutes wait for a response to the alarm, to be told staff were on their break. On one occasion, waiting 1 hour for a meal course and getting it myself from the kitchen, being offered
an afternoon drink, and it didn't materialise. Having showers when told my husband preferred a bath, preferred to eat in room, always taken to the dining room, except when I fed him. Little notice taken of what he liked for breakfast. Items of clothing are missing. On returning home, the home care were concerned about his bottom. Never mentioned in Hillside.
Reply from claire anderson, Home Manager at Hillside Lodge Care HomeThankyou for taking the time to bring this to our attention, we take all feedback very seriously.

Sadly, my friend died before she was able to enjoy the full facilities of Benarty View. The staff were exemplary in every way, they showed gentleness, respect, and compassion to my very unwell friend and kindness in abundance to everyone around them. When my time comes I hope I am as fortunate as she
was - thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you did for her.

Staff have worked diligently & effectively to engage my mother despite her initial caution. She is so much more settled. The staff manage my mother's challenges remarkably well & she is now mixing with the other residents.
I have seen care being given by staff when they did not know they were observed
& it was compassionate & kind. The staff approach and attitude more than balance out the older facilities - that is a more than reasonable trade off in my opinion. My mother enjoys the food & sitting with other residents to eat.
N.B., My only lower score (value for money) is because I believe the cost of care homes is remarkably expensive.

When my friend was taken ill the nursing staff gave exemplary care to him, placing his needs first. They managed the situation sensibly and responsibly, liaising with external medical professionals to make sure he had appropriate treatment. The surroundings and the food are great but it's the nurses
and carers who make the difference here. They care about each resident and make the effort to understand them and reach out to them.
