My dad was brought to Hillside (NHS bed). He needed a lot of care and found all staff were really good to him.
I would recommend Hillside Lodge to/for anyone who needs care.

My 92 year old mother recently had a short respite stay at your lovely care home. From the minute she arrived until the minute she left, she was treated with dignity, care and compassion. All the staff were helpful and attentive at all times, and I know she really enjoyed her time there.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My partner spent the last 7 months of her life at Hillside Lodge. She was happy there. The staff, every one of them treated her with care, kindness, compassion and dignity. All of the things you hope for in a care home. I visited my partner every day in the time she spent there and I was treated with
all of the above as welll. The care my partner received was excellent. If I could give 10 stars out of 5 I would. The food was great, lots of activities and events for the residents etc. I can't praise the staff at hillside lodge highly enough, they are amazing. Thank You.
Reply from Leighanne McAskill, Administrator at Hillside Lodge Care HomeThank you so much for your kind words John, it was a privilege to care for JG during her time with us, and we are so pleased she felt happy and care for here. Your appreciation of the staff means a lot them, they work very hard to create a warm and supportive environment not only for our residents but also their loved ones, so it is lovely to hear that you felt equally welcomed and supported. We will make sure your comments are shared with the team. Thank you again for your support, and for taking the time to share such lovely feedback.

Douglas was only in Hillside Lodge a short time, but he was well cared for and well liked by the staff. He settled very well, although he did miss home.
Thank you for all the care, for the kind staff and for looking after him.

Overall experience in Hillside Lodge, not value for money regarding care, 20-minute wait to be taken to the toilet. 40 minutes wait for a response to the alarm, to be told staff were on their break. On one occasion, waiting 1 hour for a meal course and getting it myself from the kitchen, being offered
an afternoon drink, and it didn't materialise. Having showers when told my husband preferred a bath, preferred to eat in room, always taken to the dining room, except when I fed him. Little notice taken of what he liked for breakfast. Items of clothing are missing. On returning home, the home care were concerned about his bottom. Never mentioned in Hillside.
Reply from claire anderson, Home Manager at Hillside Lodge Care HomeThankyou for taking the time to bring this to our attention, we take all feedback very seriously.

The staff at Hillside have been absolutely immense all the way through my aunt's stay, my aunt was particularly challenging as she had very poor sight and hearing, however they took all this in their stride and made her as comfortable as possible.
Sadly, my aunt passed away on the 1st October and
again your staff were fantastic, we got a call on Friday the 27th September advising us that the doctor has said that he felt my aunt was not doing well and he considered it to be end of life, we called at the care home and my wife and daughter spent the night with her. Your staff kindly made my wife and daughter cups of tea and actually made a sandwich for them.
They treated my aunt with the upmost respect and looked after us when we were with my aunt for her last days.
We cannot praise your staff enough and please pass on our most sincere gratitude to everyone at the care home.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.614)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.614) out of 10 for Hillside Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.664 for Hillside Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (169 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 223 Ratings = 4.664
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillside Lodge Care Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
