The care my father has is superb. My dealings with the staff and my father's thoughts leave no doubt he could not have been anywhere better at this difficult time. The care and protection he has had have been 1st class.

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My partner was admitted to Hillside Lodge for a weeks respite for herself and myself, as I was struggling to cope, she has a neurological condition. By the Wednesday of that week, we held a meeting with the care manager, myself, her sister, the nurse on duty and the care home manageress. It was decided
to admit her as a full-time resident.
In my view, and I know the coronavirus got in the way of normal operations, the staff have been most kind and helpful to both my partner and myself. They have kept all relatives informed of the day to day activities by FaceBook and have always been very helpful when phoning them.
My partner's condition is deteriorating quite rapidly and these last couple of weeks I have been able to see her through the bedroom window, which is a great comfort to me.
She cannot communicate whatsoever, but I can see that she is being treated with kindness and care.

My friend was having difficulty at home during this very difficult time and had to go to Hillside Lodge for respite. I phone her every day and the staff are very helpful. My friend is happy with the care she receives, she is really enjoying the rest she needed. She also rates the food as wonderful,
better than a 5-star hotel. She said her room is clean and the staff can’t do enough for her. She has been joining in with the activities and making new friends and can’t thank everyone enough and feels safe and supported.

My aunt was sent here from the hospital to continue her recovery from a fall at home. Although she was apprehensive, I was able to reassure her that her fears were unfounded, previous visits by myself to Hillside Lodge to see residents giving me a very favourable impression. I am pleased to say that
my aunt settled in very well, surprising all with her progress. She is now back at home but still speaks warmly of the wonderful care and attention she received at Hillside Lodge.

The staff are perfect people who think about my mum's 'best' life, going that extra bit to make life good.
Excellent support for my father who is still living in the family home (Mum in the care home).
Clean, fresh room, very appetizing meals that Dad is encouraged to join Mum.
Lovely surroundings,
well maintained.

When I viewed Hillside Lodge for the first time I was overwhelmed by how clean it was. Homely, welcoming and numerous staff being attentive. Needless to say, my Mum's name went on the waiting list! She is now a resident and enjoying every minute of it. The varied activities are certainly welcome as
well as the management. The residents are treated with dignity and respect. Hillside is a pleasure to visit. You have made our Mum very happy as well as us!

In my two years of experience of visiting my Mum at The Hillside Lodge, I have never had any complaints to make. If I have to approach management about a certain subject, it has been dealt with very well. Staff are very helpful and easy to speak to and my reassurance is when I leave the building, my
Mum is in good hands. Rooms are kept clean and it is nice to have a choice of your own decor. Kitchen staff are good at noticing that if my Mum does not eat all of her meal, they ask if she would like something else at her next mealtime. Overall would highly recommend.

Hillside Lodge the only way I can describe it; is it's like home from home. The staff are very good. They just interact with the residents; it's like one big happy family. There's not a lot more I can say.

After visiting my friend I came away feeling very content knowing she is well cared for and happy living in the home, the home itself was very welcoming clean and tidy and all staff were very friendly and made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the management and pointed in
the right direction to my friends room.
I am looking forward to visiting again in the future.

It has taken a while for Mum to settle in and she is still doing so, though now she is much more positive and says 'it's in my best interest and safety'. She really enjoys the daily activities, Monday-Friday and always speaks very highly of the activity leader. I have been made to feel very welcome
to join in with activities, both by the leader and the other residents. I appreciate the monthly residents/relatives meetings when we are all able to offer suggestions, management and nursing staff are very approachable and friendly. I would like the residents' dining tables to be round or larger, as most people are in wheelchairs. There isn't enough room for the footplate, without catching others' feet.

Although it took a while for Mum to settle into life at Hillside Lodge she realises that in this environment she is safe, warm and well cared for. She really enjoys the two daily activities which are varied and cover a wide range of interests. The residents' and relatives' monthly meeting is an excellent
opportunity to air views, opinions and suggest new ideas. Management receives suggestions positively and makes changes if these are feasible. All management staff are friendly and approachable. Meals are well cooked. Suggestion - plan a two-week rota of meals (the current 4-week menu is mainly a one-week menu repeated four times).

Well maintained. If there is a problem, quick to fix. Sometimes have to wait for a carer to arrive once buzzer pressed but overall good care. Could maybe do with more regular updates on care of resident rather than having to ask. No communication from management. Regular loss of clothes, maybe use laundry
bags for residents with the room number on.

My mother was admitted following a fall and a stay in hospital. We visited Hillside Lodge and talked to the manager and explained what care she required. We were shown a room which was suitable and had a full tour of the premises. We were able to put some of my mother's possessions - photos etc - in
the room and were able to use her own bedding etc. She was made to feel at home and welcome at Hillside and settled down very well. Her privacy is respected and she is well cared for. I am always made aware of any problems or concerns.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.614)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.614) out of 10 for Hillside Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.664 for Hillside Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (169 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 223 Ratings = 4.664
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.95 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillside Lodge Care Home is based on 18 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.95
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 18 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
