My mum went to Hillside Lodge for a trial, unfortunately, she became acutely ill whilst with them, which was difficult for all concerned. However, at all times my mum's care and family support was given professionally and in a dedicated manner. Communication on all matters during this time was excellent,
especially with the manager.

I always have fun and plenty to do with the activities. My room is really nice and my brother visits me. Food is very good and I get a cooked breakfast, best meal of the day. The carers are the best and look after me and help me.

My father was in Hillside for two weeks before he passed away. I would like to say that all the care and support he got was over and above exceptional. The staff were kind and caring, no matter what time of the day. Everyone deserves a massive medal for all the hard work they do and with smiles on their
faces.

I am so glad I chose this home for my mum she is very well looked after extremely happy and cared for. During these difficult times, I am kept informed and up to date on all aspects of my mum's wellbeing also video calls where I can see her. I am very happy with all care and support my mum is given
and how in touch the home is with me.

My mother spent the last few weeks of her life in Hillside, and the care she received was exceptional. We were initially concerned about institutional care, but these fears dissipated immediately upon her entry into Hillside. This care home is the perfect mix of professional management and medical care,
and a loving caring community. Hillside is purpose-built, scrupulously clean and provides a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Its main strength, however, is its staff. Most of our contact was with the chief clinical lead who was truly exceptional in the bond that she formed with my mother and the constant care that she gave her at the end of her life. Mother's time in Hillside was brief, but it was made enjoyable, dignified, secure, respectful, comfortable and reassuring by all the staff who dealt with her. In our loss, we are hugely grateful for the care given to our mother by Hillside and are comforted by the fact that they helped make her passing so comfortable and supported. Thank you.

I have visited Hillside Lodge many times over the years, professionally and personally over the past 10 years. On my most recent 2 visits, I was supported to visit my old friend who recently moved into the care home. The staff were most helpful in enabling my visits and prior to that arranging form
me to speak on the telephone to my friend. On my recent visit the staff including the manager were most helpful and treating my friend with courtesy and respect she told me she was happy and seemed very well looked after.

My wife passed away on November 2nd and I completely blame the visits as we had been close for 85 years and due to understandable restrictions I had not been able to visit her since the 23rd March. She had therefore given up and wouldn't eat or drink. The staff were excellent and when I was in on the
15th November (Sunday) there were three qualified nurses in attendance which you would have not found even in a local hospital.
Thank you very much.

My mother has a new family in living at Hillside Lodge, especially with the activities it provides for the residents, she loves them. She is very well cared for, with dignity, safety, and she feels very secure in her own bubble. Hillside Lodge is a special place for people with dementia. The staff care
for all their residents.

The activity workers are amazing doing Zoom calls and activities to keep mum occupied. The home is very clean
and mum loves the food.

I was so worried about my sister during this pandemic but I shouldn't have been. The care and management were amazing to put my mind at rest. My sister was so happy when I saw her on WhatsApp she said she couldn't be happier, they're working so hard putting on shows and even getting a takeaway in and
opening a little cafe inside the home which looked like the one we used to go in when she was a little girl. The management are outstanding and do anything to make me relax. I know my sister is safe through these very serious and fighting times. Well done Hillside Lodge you are all very special. Keep up the hard, work stay safe very special people.

Review from Janet D (Civil Partner of Resident) published on 17 July 2020 Submitted via Website • Report
Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My partner was admitted to Hillside Lodge for a weeks respite for herself and myself, as I was struggling to cope, she has a neurological condition. By the Wednesday of that week, we held a meeting with the care manager, myself, her sister, the nurse on duty and the care home manageress. It was decided
to admit her as a full-time resident.
In my view, and I know the coronavirus got in the way of normal operations, the staff have been most kind and helpful to both my partner and myself. They have kept all relatives informed of the day to day activities by FaceBook and have always been very helpful when phoning them.
My partner's condition is deteriorating quite rapidly and these last couple of weeks I have been able to see her through the bedroom window, which is a great comfort to me.
She cannot communicate whatsoever, but I can see that she is being treated with kindness and care.

My friend was having difficulty at home during this very difficult time and had to go to Hillside Lodge for respite. I phone her every day and the staff are very helpful. My friend is happy with the care she receives, she is really enjoying the rest she needed. She also rates the food as wonderful,
better than a 5-star hotel. She said her room is clean and the staff can’t do enough for her. She has been joining in with the activities and making new friends and can’t thank everyone enough and feels safe and supported.

My aunt was sent here from the hospital to continue her recovery from a fall at home. Although she was apprehensive, I was able to reassure her that her fears were unfounded, previous visits by myself to Hillside Lodge to see residents giving me a very favourable impression. Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.828)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.828) out of 10 for Hillside Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.853 for Hillside Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (193 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 225 Ratings = 4.853
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.975 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillside Lodge Care Home is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 19 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
