My Mother has been in the care home for over 5yrs and I have always found the staff excellent, the service they provide has been of a level that has allowed me to relax from almost the first week, I was very nervous when my Mother went in but the interactions with them and my viewing of the work they
do under difficult circumstances has gave me high level of respect for them and the work they do.

My wife celebrated her birthday last week on 2 separate days as our family were not all available at once .
Amazingly this was not a problem for your staff who pulled out all the stops to decorate her room and the lounge and made such a fuss of her and a warm welcome for all of us.Many thanks to all
the staff for their love and care.I would like to make special mention of Sharon , if I may , as she tirelessly goes above and beyond mere duty with her patient compassionate care.We are so lucky with your choice of staff , thank you.
Reply from Jen Neill, Home Administrator at Gilmerton Care HomeThank you so much for your wonderful review. We're delighted to hear that your loved one's birthday celebrations were made special and that our team helped create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for you family.

I do appreciate the care my beloved husband Patrick receives and I know how much he needs it, but although his powers of communication are slow, I always feel that there should be more activities especially at the weekends. Also if a resident requires physical assistance such as cleaning spectacles,
they he must have access to them at anytime he is awake, there was an incident last month. The problem is now resolved.
Reply from Liz Cass, Home Manager at Colinton Care HomeThank you for your review and your kind comments on the care we provide your husband. Your points on our activities provision are noted and we always ensure that there is a variety of activities available to residents across all days of the week. We work hard to ensure that we are responsive to our residents needs and thank you for recognising that a recent matter has been resolved.

My friend for ever 55 years moved into St Margaret's in December 2024. During this entire time, he has received first class care across all aspects of his package in the care home.
All his POA, I have been well informed and treated with the same high level of respect that my friend has had.
I have
complete confidence in the staff and would highly recommend St Margaret's to others seeking quality care.

My first experience of living in care but now needed. I feel my room is comfortable and adequate. The staff are friendly and efficient and provide the help and support I need. The food is varied and meets my needs. There is a varied social program provided and staff help to oversee it. Visitors are

My father has been in Guthrie House since April 2025. Since the first day, not only has my father received a warm welcome but so have all family & friends. All the staff, without exception, are friendly, professional, helpful but also happy. All the areas are clean & well kept. The food is
lovely. There are lots of activities like bbq's, singers, arts & crafts & quizzes. The staff are always on hand if you have any queries. There's a lovely garden for nicer days. It's lovely to see all the staff interacting with the residents.

Gilmerton Neurological Care Centre

from A P (Partner of Resident) published on 23 September 2025

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My partner was recently admitted to the neurological centre. Initially there was a few problems that were dealt with immediately by the deputy manager and her team ( I like to call them teething problems)I also work in care so these things are quite common. My partner had been in hospital for 3 months
then another facility for 7 months so we were worried about his transition, turns out there was nothing to be worried about he settled in almost immediately thanks to the team there. Nothing is ever too much for them and they welcomed us as family . The staff are always on hand to tend to my partners needs, and in the 2 weeks he's been there we are seeing quite a bit of improvement. Eventually I hope the team (nurses, support workers, physios, OT, and the other people involved in the rehab) get my partner to a point where he will be able to come home. Big thanks to all in the neuro centre for making us feel at ease and welcome.
Reply from catherine forrest-smith, Deputy Manager at Gilmerton Neurological Care CentreThankyou for your kind comments, we would like to welcome you all as a family. We do try our best to get our clients to achieve their goals and hopefully get them back to living in the community with family. We have an open door policy any concerns please just pop in anytime

Having worked in care myself I'm incredibly pleased with the care and support both my father and myself receive from the whole team here.
I would highly recommend Gilmerton to anyone.
My father's been happy here from day one, and I've seen first hand just how gently, patiently, and well the whole
team cares for him and other residents.
Everything is always clean and organised, he loves the food, adores the staff, and enjoys regular activities and trips out.
I'm always met with a warm reception from the team, and I'm regularly and appropriately updated on everything as well.
For the first time in years I have genuine peace of mind and I honestly couldn't wish for a better home and people to keep him happy, healthy, and safe.

My brother recently transitioned to Gilmerton NCC to support his rehabilitation. The process has been seamless staff have worked hard to create a smooth transition whilst supporting my brother throughout. The communication has been fantastic I cannot thank the staff enough as they have gone over and
above to help him settle in, this is so reassuring for me.

When visiting we are always made feel welcome, staff are on hand to help if and when required and I feel very happy with the care my brother is receiving. The facilities are bright, warm & welcoming and I appreciate the security measures in place when entering/exiting the building.

His suite is bright, clean and well positioned within the home to ensure he has easy access to all areas promoting his independence. He has the opportunity to take part in a variety of different activities which I'm sure he will more than enjoy.

Again, thank you all so much for everything!
