Overall Experience

The care is second to none in the dementia unit, very caring staff to the residents. I am delighted that they are so well loved and cared for.

From personal care to getting food and drink whenever they want, the unit is very well run. The main nurse on the unit is very approachable and is on the ball on every resident in their care.

So impressed overall.

Management - House, excellent. Too soon to evaluate, little contact so far.
Too many agency workers - don't know residents' requirements.
All staff assist willingly when asked.
Understand the post of Hostess is being withdrawn in Oct.

This post will be missed as it was a useful post liaising between residents/relatives regarding meals. Good contact with visitors.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Victoria Manor Care Home

Thank you for your taking the time to give feedback about Victoria Manor. I would like to assure you that we are currently actively recruiting to fill all vacant posts so that we can reduce agency use. The hostess posts have not been removed, there has just been a slight change in their responsibilities and line management.

Overall Experience
First impressions were very encouraging. The buildings were clean and inviting and there were sufficient parking spaces. The gardens, in particular, were well looked after and sufficient seats were available, with access from the ground floor. The room was modern and clean with a separate toilet and wash basin, suitable furniture and a modern single bed. There was also a TV and sufficient power points. The lockable doors offered a high measure of security but access to the room was made very easy by the staff who were most helpful with transferred.
It was apparent, after only a few weeks visiting, that all the residents had unique issues and the staff coped very well. I left each visit with the knowledge that she was well looked after, she was safe and in a good place both physically and mentally.

I would like to thank everyone involved in the help that we have been given over the last few years.

All staff are very nice, polite and well mannered. They will help you, as soon as you walk in the door. Never see management in the unit.

Due to my health, I don't manage to visit as often as I feel I should, but as I believe that I can trust the staff to take good care of my mother my feelings of guilt about this are less difficult to cope with. I am very grateful for this.

The recent work done to the buildings has made the home more practical and more homely and is a success in my opinion.

I want to thank all the staff in Balmoral House for being very caring and hard working whilst doing a difficult job.

My mother passed away recently but her 18 months in the home were as good as could be, despite her difficulties. The staff established good relationships with her, being both professional but also kind-hearted and caring.

They were also a great support to me, particularly as I live some distance away.

The staff are always pleasant and friendly whenever I've had to ask them anything regarding my dad. They've seen to his needs and nothing seems to be a bother, i.e. needing more painkillers or just made comfortable.
I find all the staff very approachable and easy to talk to.

You're always welcomed with a smile and a 'hello!' when the staff see you.

My father has been at Victoria Manor for 5 years. I have always found from the management to domestics, all the staff to be very focused and take pride in their various activities. Nothing is too much trouble and there is always a very friendly and calm environment, which helps the residents and relatives feel their loved ones are looked after in a very professional manner. I have always found that management and staff to be very approachable. I am of the opinion that my father is happy living at V M, as shown by the smiles on his face when I visit.

On behalf of myself and my family I would like to thank the House Manager and her staff for the wonderful care and attention our mother received during her stay in the Saxe Coburg Unit of the Victoria Manor Care Home.

The House Manager was a true professional in the way she carried out her duties. She managed a well trained staff who gave so much love and attention to all the residents in their care.

Knowing the great care our mother received during her 18 month stay helped the family through a very difficult time and there are no words to express our gratitude.
