My Gran has been cared for by Balclutha Court for over 4 years now I can’t fault anything within the home. The staff are all very caring and the home is spotlessly clean. And the main thing my Gran is very happy. The staff have also welcomed us with open us and we feel very much part of the Balclutha
Family. Thank you for looking my Gran especially in the last year during these difficult times.

My wife has been cared for for nearly two years in Barchester Balclutha Court following a stroke. She has been very well looked after during this time by very caring staff who are also only too happy to assist the resident and family members in any way.
It is very important to the relative if they
can leave their loved one in the hands of kind, caring staff in the knowledge that they will be well looked after twenty-four hours a day. You can tell that the staff have a good connection with your relative with the big smile my wife gives to the carers when they visit the room. And the big smile the carers give to my wife. The staff nurses are also always prompt in informing the relative of any medical issues and further actions taken.

This last year has been difficult for us all. All of the staff at Balclutha have been amazing in trying to get us back together as quickly and safely as possible. I know papa loves all the staff and has been cared for so well in the time that I have not been able to be with him. Everyone that works
in the home across the board goes above and beyond to make sure that all the residents get 10/10 care and support. I can never thank you guys enough for everything that you have done through this last year to try and make it easier, from video calls to installing a window room so we can be one step closer to our family. Everything you all do is from the heart and I can’t put into words how grateful I am.

My mum has been in the Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home since September 2020.
She seems to have settled pretty well and is getting well looked after.
It's been really hard with her going in during Covid, as we can't get to see her as much as we would like.

My mother-in-law is very well cared for and has become extremely fond of all the staff who look after her.
Whenever I visit, she is clean, tidy and looks well cared for.
Since admission to Barchester Balclutha Court, she has gained the weight she had previously lost.
She takes part in many of the
activities and always looks very engaged and happy in the photos I see of her enjoying these activities.
We are completely happy/satisfied with the care and attention my mother-in-law receives, and I would have no hesitation in recommending Balclutha care home to anyone.

During the pandemic, the management and staff have been amazing. They have gone the extra mile, I have been kept up to date with all my wife needs and wants. They couldn't do any more for my wife and us as a family. The staff at Balclutha have become a part of my wife's family too. Knowing my wife is
being very well cared for makes this pandemic a lot easier to cope with. Thank you all.

The staff at Balclutha always provide an excellent service for their residents and families. This has been particularly true during the covid pandemic as their level of commitment and care during this time has been exemplary. They have looked after my mum so well in such stressful times and have continued
to work as an effective team. All staff have my mum’s welfare as a priority and we cannot thank them highly enough for all they do for her each and every day. Thank you!

Due to my mother need for 24-hour care, I took the hard decision to request her admittance to social care. In regards to selecting a care home, there was only (1) Balclutha Court. The staff are fantastic and had cared for my mother-in-law for five years prior to her passing. Their levels of compassion,
kindness, attention to detail, fun and love are a credit to this company.

Where do I start, it finally came time for my dad, my hero, to be looked after professionally and so the search began to find that one place that safe haven for my dad, I searched and searched and kept coming back to Balclutha Court and I'm glad I did, the day I had to leave my dad in their care I was
left broken, as my hero was no longer with me every day. But I had to do it due to him having Alzheimer's and by this point really bad. I never thought I would get over it, fast forward a few weeks and it's as if he's always been a resident there he's settled in great he wants for nothing they're there for him 24 hrs a day, he's safe and really well looked after. I should never ever have doubted their capabilities. Nothing is an inconvenience to them they went above and beyond for my wee dad and me, as a result, we are both sleeping at night my dad is safe and I am healing slowly. They not only care for the residents they help the families too. I would highly recommend this Care Home.

I am from Ireland so don't visit as often as I should. Unfortunately had to visit home due to my aunt passing. I was very regularly in contact with my aunt and the staff and always found the staff to be most helpful and very courteous and nothing was a problem. The home is very nice and comfortable.
Plenty of staff. Spoke to many of the residents who seemed to be very happy and content. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home. My aunt never had a bad word to say about Balclutha Court only good.

As Power of Attorney for my aunt, the time came when she needed further care. After recommendations from friends, I decided on Balclutha Court. I am delighted with the decision I have made. Although my aunt has dementia and had become withdrawn, within a short time in the care home I could see the
difference in her.
She is encouraged to join in with all the activities, the staff on duty spend time talking to her and she has become more animated. Apart from her illness, she is nearly back to the aunt I knew and I know that this is due to the care and attention given to her in Balclutha Court. On a personal level, I have never had to deal with care homes in the past, but the staff have been extremely helpful and patient with me, answering all my questions and giving me assistance with the paperwork. I would never hesitate to recommend Balclutha Court to anyone looking for a care home for their elderly relatives.

Mum was admitted to Balclutha on Christmas Eve 2019 following a pre-visit by myself and my sister. We were very impressed by the Deputy Manager who showed us around and by the welcoming atmosphere in the home. Mum has settled in after just a few weeks. She is well, has all her needs met by a friendly
and caring team. Although only a few weeks have passed, we are more than happy.

I would just like to say a huge thank you to the manager and her team for the help and support they gave to me when my friend passed away. I was totally blown away when she offered to lay on a funeral tea for my friend. She was 91 years old when she died, she had no relatives and most of her friends
had already passed away or were too infirm or too far away to attend the funeral. As such, there was only a small number of us at the service including some of the staff who kindly took the time to attend.
We came to back to Balclutha Court and the spread that had been put on was outstanding. Not only was there a huge variety of food but the standard was exceptional and we all very much appreciated all the effort that had gone into producing this.
Alison went above and beyond the call of duty and made a difficult day so much easier. It was lovely to be able to share memories of my friend with the staff.
Thanks to everyone for looking after her, I really appreciate all you have done.

I just want to say a big well done to the manager and all her staff for the fantastic Hawaiian themed day on Friday 28th June that was organised for all the residents and their family and friends. It was great to see young and old all having a great time together. The continuous ongoing activities must
have taken a lot of planning and seemed to be enjoyed by everyone. The bbq was a big hit and the food was delicious. Well done to all the catering team. There was something for everyone and plenty of it. It was also great to see staff who weren't on duty take time out on their precious days off to come in and join in the fun too. And of course, organising Mr Sunshine to be there too was great! Keep up the good work Team Balclutha!

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.584)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.584) out of 10 for Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.891 for Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (147 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 165 Ratings = 4.891
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.693 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home is based on 14 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.85
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 83 registered maximum number of service users is 16.6. 14 Positive Reviews ÷ 16.6 = 0.843
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
