My mother has been at Merino Court for nearly three years since she needed additional care for advanced Alzheimer's. The previous home she had been in couldn't contain her and had used psychotropic drugs to sedate her. On entering Merino Court, all those medications were withdrawn, and her behaviour
managed by staff very effectively. Merino Court has an excellent philosophy and ethos running through all its activities: that it is the residents' home and what they want to do should be accommodated as much as possible. This means not having set getting up times or bedtimes, freedom to roam around the units or to sit in the lounges. The only set times are mealtimes. Relatives are welcomed any time day or night, and invited to join in with whatever is happening in the home during their visit. The staff go the extra mile to care and support the residents in sometimes challenging situations. We have nothing but respect and admiration for the care my mother has received in her time at Merino.

My father spent four years in Merino Court. He had dementia. Staff at Merino Court were excellent. When he went in he was on various medication including anti psychotics. They were able to get him off these and vastly improved his quality of life. Care from staff was excellent. Over the four years
that my father was a resident the facilities continued to improve, and garden upgrading is currently underway.

MY dad would not be here today if he had still been at his own house. The home has been a Godsend as my dad was such a private person, but with all the activities and the day trips, he likes to join in now. I have never had a problem as all the staff know my dad's likes and dislikes. There is good entertainment
on. The recreation lady is so good at her job and the secretary keeps me right with my dad's paperwork.

My wife and I had our diamond wedding anniversary to celebrate on the 28th of October 2015. As my wife is the secure part of he home, we had to make a small party in the home.
That went wonderfully well and the family enjoyed it and also my wife. All the staff are the best and what a different that
makes to my life, I know she is in good able hands.

Had a meeting with Social Worker and Manager at Merino Court to discuss my mothers care and see if we had any concerns. I was happy to say that I was satisfied on all levels.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.851) out of 10 for Merino Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 23 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.851 for Merino Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (239 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 275 Ratings = 4.851
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Merino Court Care Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
