The Review Score of 9.2 (maximum of 10) for Hillside View Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 15 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Hillside View Care Home in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.206 for Hillside View Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (92 Goods x 4) + (18 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 180 Ratings = 4.206

A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hillside View Care Home is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 11.4 positive Reviews (57 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 13 Reviews ÷ 11.4 Target Reached = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

HC-One, Careline Team at Hillside View Care Home responded to this review on 02 Feb 2017:

The care home operates an activity program which is planned on a monthly basis, this allows Residents to opt in or out of some or all of the activities. There are planned events which are fixed in the calendar; these include religious observation, falls prevention, strength and balance exercise classes and art therapy. We have regular in-house entertainment at least once per month, all major festivals are celebrated.
We strive to ensure that the Residents remain a part of their local and wider community, by attending local cinemas, theatres and leisure centres; we are limited by wheelchair availability within these venues.

Respect and dignity has been discussed through staff meetings, and how this extends to how belongings are looked after, a designated key worker system is in operation, and this will continue to be a focus area of improvement for the care home.

First month for my Mum at Hillside view. She has settled in really well and all the staff have been fantastic and are all extremely helpful. The Manager has been excellent and helped to make sure my Mum's move went smoothly.

My mother spent her last two weeks of life in Hillside View. They encouraged mum to eat and drink several times each day. They tried to tempt her with special juices, yogurts, soup etc. Mum was on palliative care. The nursing home treated mum with care and dignity. Family were encouraged to visit day or night and we managed to be with mum in her final hours.

My father has only been in this home for six weeks. The staff I have come into contact with so far appeal to be friendly and conscientious. the management team are very helpful. The building has just been refurbished therefore the decor and furnishings are first class. On my introductory walkabout the equipment and facilities are exactly what is required. Once my dad settled in he will have a very pleasant and comfortable stay.

A big improvement with refurbishment, tastefully done. I think relatives should be given a code for keypad to enter the lift as staff not always at hand to do this for you (this happens at another care home I visit).
I would like to see more activity to stimulate residents ie. someone doing exercises to music whilst residents sitting on chair. Staff very courteous and friendly but could do with more.

HC-One, Careline Team at Hillside View Care Home responded to this review on 22 Apr 2016:

Within Hillside View Care Home, we have 5 exercise classes a month, which focus on, strength, mobility, and falls prevention. Some residents are identified to attend for a specific reason, and others participate of their own volition. Residents are able to attend as many of these sessions as they wish.
Staffing within the care home, is of a higher ratio than in most other care homes, due to the dependency and needs of the residents and the Care Inspectorate Staffing notice. Monthly dependency levels are monitored, and this is used to inform the staffing levels within the care home.
Access to security codes for the elevator is limited, as this ensures that staff members know the whereabouts of residents, and reduces the risk of residents entering the elevator, and leaving the building, unaccompanied.

Very welcoming very caring for relative and explained everything so that it was understandable.

I feel there is not enough activity to get the residents back into the community. There should be more activities outside of the care home.

HC-One, Careline Team at Hillside View Care Home responded to this review on 22 Apr 2016:

The care home employs two activities coordinators, on a part time basis.
A range of activities are offered to the Residents, and these include, community involvement. The Residents living within the care home are canvassed for their opinion and areas of special interest and this is the information used to develop the activity program
Many of the Residents enjoy trips to the local cinema, leisure centre, bowling alley, theatres and day trips to local beauty spots.
On a daily basis the Residents are supported to visit the local shops and there is a walking group that Residents enjoy. Some Residents are supported to maintain their religious practice and attend their Church on a daily or weekly basis.
The care home welcomes community groups and these groups support in the activity program across the year. The Care Home has links with local schools, and youth organisations.
Although the care home aims to maintain and improve people’s independence, the Residents living within the care home, have limited potential for rehabilitation that would lead to independent or supported living in the local community and therefore require 24 hour nursing care.

The staff are excellent and treat my brother with great dignity, he is well looked after. He eats well and I am very happy with his care.

Both my husband and I find all of the staff friendly, courteous and exceedingly caring. The well trained staff have created a lovely environment within this well appointed home. This is going a long way to ease the heartache of knowing that it is now unsafe for my husband of 48 years to remain in his own home. We are very grateful to the management and all of the staff for facilitating us still spending quality time together.
