This care home already has a great reputation within the care industry. My mum loves all the activities and day trips that are provided. The staff are friendly and approachable. My mum's room is always immaculate too. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Almond Court.

Dementia has robbed mum of making her own decisions but I feel confident she is looked after with dignity and lots of care. The home is comfortable and as clean as possible.
Of course, there can be little irritations but with communication with the staff, they get resolved.
If you've been the main
carer and pass your loved one over to someone else then you realistically have to adjust.
There is an interesting and varied entertainment programme.
No-one wants to lose their independence, especially through dementia but this home provides a safe environment to allow the individual to do what they can.

Mum is being well looked after and is much happier now than when she first entered the home. She has put on weight and says she loves the food. The staff are genuinely caring and friendly to visitors and I am contacted immediately if there are any issues. I am happy with the standard of care and the
home is always clean and tidy.

First experience of care homes. From the beginning, we as a family were treated with care and understanding.
Great atmosphere within the care home. Staff are excellent in all areas of care.
We are welcome at all times. It feels like home. Always a friendly face there to meet you.

I am very happy with the management, staff and support for my husband in Almond Court. There is a lovely homely atmosphere and his room is clean and comfortable with a nice outlook. He loves the food! The staff could not be more helpful in caring for him, me and the family when they visit. They are
kind and considerate. All in all, I couldn't ask for anything better for him.

I have been in a number of care homes and this is the best without a doubt! Very clean and comfortable with great staff who are always helpful. The manager is excellent, I was in a luxury care home in Surrey and it was not as nice as Almond Court.

In an honest opinion, mum is usually taken care of not too bad but that might be because I go every day and keep on top of things. If I don't like what I think my mum should be getting, I get it sorted with whichever staff are on.
I have had a few issues with Almond Court night staff. Things that
were meant to be dealt with on their shift and if it's not done; like making sure mum's wheelchair is clean and laundry is taken to the laundry room, then day staff have to do it. Overall, I have good relations with the day staff and manager.
Reply from Lorna Flannagan, Service Manager at Almond Court

Thanks for your comments Janice. As you know we have recently spoken to you with regard to the issues raised and I trust that we have now managed to resolve the problems for you. Please feel free to come and see me next time you are visiting your Mum if there is anything else you would like to raise.

I would move my parent however, I believe them to be safe and think that being moved it would be to their detriment. I think that the staff do their best but are underpaid and although there are legally enough, I think that it would benefit the residents having one more person on duty. Also be nice
if they interacted more with the residents instead of doing paperwork / watching TV / chatting amongst themselves instead of with residents.
Reply from Lorna Flanagan, Service Manager at Almond Court

Thanks for your comments Valerie, which we have noted. Our staff policy is always to have at least 5 staff on duty at any one time. We have also recently been inspected, and our food was found to be of a very high standard.
I would be happy to discuss your mothers care at anytime, please feel free to call or come in and see me on your next visit.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.862)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.862) out of 10 for Almond Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.767 for Almond Court is calculated as follows: ( (48 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.767
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.095 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Almond Court is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.4 = 0.595
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
