Haydale welcomes nursing, convalescence and palliative care needs, as well as offering care for complex forms of dementia and help for adults with a learning disability. Long and short term care needs are catered for.

Located close to the centre of Glasgow, this modern care facility consists of three houses, each offering different levels of care within comfortable surroundings. Bedrooms provide single accommodation with a 24 hour call system and views of the pretty gardens.

There is a keen focus on residents’ nutrition, personal preferences are taken on-board and homemade cake enjoyed on birthdays.

Many activities and hobbies are embraced by residents and the friendly care team, including smoothie making and gardening, while the Wii proves to be a very popular pastime.

Hi My mum has been in Dunlop Unit for over three years. Mum has received amazing care from the staff in there. Dayshift and nightshift staff take care of her every need and have a brilliant bond with her. Mum has fallen a few times, as she tends to walk without her zimmer at times. Staff are quick to
respond and notify me as soon as possible. Staff are approachable and make my mum feel part of the Haydale family. Nothing is a bother for them.

Mum has been a resident for a few months. We looked at several places for her, Haydale was the one that just felt right, it had a pleasing ambience, there was a calmness, staff were happy and engaging with the residents. Over the past couple of months mum has had some challenges which the staff have
dealt with professionally, carefully and with the utmost respect for her needs. When I visit I am always amazed that the staff will take the time to tell me how mum has been and if there have been any issues. When you have worried about someone for so long it is a huge relief to know that 24hours a day the care is consistent and meaningful. Nothing ever seems to be too much of a problem for staff. The activities programme and the social media updates are fantastic providing genuine engagement for the residents. The management and maintenance of the property is excellent and of a high standard.

Please continue to pop in and see me if you have any queries or concerns, or even if you just want to have a quick chat about mum and offer any suggestions as to how we can make each day a little bit brighter for her.

My sister is a resident and has been for almost a year the staff are very attentive to her needs and respond quickly if they feel she is unwell the nurses always check her over and seek GP assistance if necessary. There are lots of activities and every occasion is celebrated and she is included whenever
possible. The maintenance is excellent and we were able to have her room freshly decorated by the maintenance man which has made her room more personal. The staff know her very well and she is very comfortable in their care.

Sister-in-law moved into care home this year and due to the caring staff she settled in well and nothing was a bother to them. They supported her with any tasks and very quickly she trusted them with her personal care. They were quick to notice any issues and deal with them. Staff make her feel safe
and secure and welcome all her visitors. They include and interact with her in all activities.

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Haydale Care Home

Fall due to a carer hitting a bump in the shower room where Mum was tipped onto the floor causing injuries and had to go to A&E. Falls due to being in a pitch dark bedroom with no light on during the night. Just found out recently. Minimum £100 each time the carer escorts Mum to the hospital. Complaints
are not always taken on board. On the advice of GP to phone an ambulance, until I phoned GP, a delay in phoning an ambulance of a couple of hours. Whatever you want to take from this.

Reply from Fiona Hunter, Home Manager at Haydale Care Home

Thank you very much for your feedback. We're extremely sorry about the unfortunate issue caused by a dropped shower tray, this was rectified very quickly. We understand the distress caused by this when you visited and we offered our full support. You had been given every opportunity, as per the company's escorting policy, to escort your mum to the hospital however you had chosen for staff to attend on your behalf due to your working circumstances. I can confirm the home takes all complaints very seriously and the door remains open should you wish to speak to the management team directly. Apologies again.

I can't highlight how Haydale is such a great home. The staff are so nice and treat the residents like they are part of their family. The activities they run and organize are amazing. They have a social media page where all events upcoming are posted and also update when the events happen. I'm so glad
my relative is a resident as she is so happy and settled.

My daughter's room got flooded in the middle of the night through no fault of her own and because they apparently didn’t have another room for her I’ve had to bring her home to my house with nothing in place. No hoist or hospital bed. She is only 31 with Rett syndrome, she has no speech and doesn’t
walk so her needs are quite complex. She is now stuck on the sofa until the morning because I can’t move her on my own. Absolutely shocking. The management doesn’t want to take responsibility for any of this. I honestly cannot fault the staff because they are brilliant and really are doing their best but so overworked as never enough staff. The place is falling to bits with wind howling through gaps in window frames and just overall scruffy looking. I have plenty of other complaints but they will be going to the appropriate people. Advise visit as often as you can and keep your eyes wide open. All down to poor management as staff was great and very sad because it could be once again a great wee home.

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Haydale Care Home

Thank you very much for your feedback. We're extremely sorry about the unfortunate issue caused by an upstairs resident who left their tap running for around 30 minutes and flooded their bathroom. As soon as the leak was detected, your daughter's safety was our main priority which is why she had to vacate the room until our contractors attended that day and we were confident that it was safe to be re-used again. We understand your distress when you visited and offered our full support. There were no alternative bedrooms available and we advised that the room was now safe for your daughter to re-enter and we would conduct regular checks as an extra precaution. We must stress that you decided to take your daughter home against our advice, as is your choice, however we supported you, arranged transport and provided food for you to take. Thankfully the next day you brought her back and she's now in her own room again. Apologies again and thank you for your kind comments about the staff.

Generally very pleased with Mum's care, the staff in the main are lovely, her room is too.
However have noted recently, particularly at weekends, far fewer staff on duty and overall cleanliness of room, communal corridors, etc. has slipped a little.

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Haydale Care Home

Hello and thank you so much for your feedback. It is reassuring to know that you are so pleased with the care your mum receives at Haydale and happy with her room. Thank you also for the compliment about our staff team. We always work to the same safe staffing ratios and apologise if this wasn't evident on recent visits. Sometimes team members can be occupied in resident's bedrooms or are required to buddy up for personal care which may have been the case. Thank you for raising the other points and rest assured we will investigate this and if standards have slipped, even if only slightly, then we will address it immediately. Best wishes.

My cousin spent the last three years of his life in Sunnyside, the learning disability unit in Haydale Care Home. He was very happy and settled there and received a very high standard of loving care from a great team. He enjoyed various activities provided by the activities coordinator when he was able.
The staff provided personalised care tailored to his needs. The unit manager and her team worked to a high standard. If a problem arose they were always prompt in phoning me to discuss the action plan. I had peace of mind and felt very reassured that my cousin was receiving the best possible care.

I cant praise the staff enough for the excellent end of life care they provided for my cousin. Also for their compassion and support to the family.

Reply from Paul Lawson, Customer Relations Manager at Haydale Care Home

On behalf of all the staff and residents in Sunnyside, and from the whole team at Haydale, we are extremely sorry for your loss. Our deepest sympathies to you and your family. Your cousin will be very much missed at Haydale. It was comforting that you were able to spend so much time with him and be so caring towards the end of his life. My sister is a resident at Haydale Care Home and I cannot praise the staff and the care she receives enough. They know her as an individual, tailoring her care and activities to her preferences and needs. Staff seem to have a real love for, and sound knowledge of, caring for people with learning disabilities.
The care she receives is excellent and the communication with me as her guardian is always timely and clear.

My aunty stays in Haydale and has done for the past 13 year’s, I personally think this is a great home the staff do their best and always are willing to listen and resolve any queries that I may have had.
My aunty likes staying here and that brings me comfort knowing she is looked after properly, the
staff are all approachable this goes from the staff on the floor to the manager and office staff they are all great.
Throughout the last year with Covid the staff were amazing keeping me informed of what was going on and keeping communication with my aunty ongoing as visiting had been stopped, they are all stars it’s a great home.

My mum was very upset and unsettled when she first went to Haydale, as I live in East Kilbride and my mum was originally only in for respite I intended moving her nearer to me when she was ready for full-time care. I reconsidered as I was happy with how she was settling in so well and that was all down
to how the staff helped her to settle. Her care needs were always met and staff showed kindness and respect to my mum and her family.

My mother is very well looked after in Haydale. Her needs are addressed very well by the staff, particularly those that have worked there for a while are wonderful! The new manager seems very efficient and the administrator is very approachable and helpful. While I am happy with my mother being cared
for in Haydale, the home itself could do with being decorated.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.797)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.797) out of 10 for Haydale Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.215 for Haydale Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (78 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 130 Ratings = 4.215

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.582 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Haydale Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.682

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
