Review from K D (Sister of Resident) published on 21 June 2022 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My sister is a resident at Haydale Care Home and I cannot praise the staff and the care she receives enough. They know her as an individual, tailoring her care and activities to her preferences and needs. Staff seem to have a real love for, and sound knowledge of, caring for people with learning disabilities. The care she receives is excellent and the communication with me as her guardian is always timely and clear.

Reply from Paul Lawson, Customer Service Manager at Haydale Care Home

Thank you very much for your lovely review. We are delighted that you are so pleased with the care your sister receives at Haydale and we will pass on your praise and kind words to the team. Best wishes.

My aunty stays in Haydale and has done for the past 13 year’s, I personally think this is a great home the staff do their best and always are willing to listen and resolve any queries that I may have had.
My aunty likes staying here and that brings me comfort knowing she is looked after properly, the staff are all approachable this goes from the staff on the floor to the manager and office staff they are all great.

Throughout the last year with Covid the staff were amazing keeping me informed of what was going on and keeping communication with my aunty ongoing as visiting had been stopped, they are all stars it’s a great home.

My mum was very upset and unsettled when she first went to Haydale, as I live in East Kilbride and my mum was originally only in for respite I intended moving her nearer to me when she was ready for full-time care. I reconsidered as I was happy with how she was settling in so well and that was all down to how the staff helped her to settle. Her care needs were always met and staff showed kindness and respect to my mum and her family.

Reply from Paul Lawson, Customer Relations Manager at Haydale Care Home

Hi J M. Thank you for your kind words and we are delighted that your mum has settled in and that you are so pleased with her care and with the staff here at Haydale. Look forward to seeing you all soon.

My mother is very well looked after in Haydale. Her needs are addressed very well by the staff, particularly those that have worked there for a while are wonderful! The new manager seems very efficient and the administrator is very approachable and helpful. While I am happy with my mother being cared for in Haydale, the home itself could do with being decorated.

I generally have no issue at Haydale with the exception of my mum's room which constantly stinks of urine. I have brought this up several times, however, has not been totally rectified. There is a blue/grey coloured chain in my mum's room which is very smelly. I also feel her wheelchair is very smelly. My mum should be on a two-hour pad change!

Reply from Emily Hocking, Customer Relations Manager at Haydale Care Home

We are very sorry to hear of the issues raised. I will pass on your feedback to our team within the home and would like to invite you to meet with our Home Manager to discuss how we can rectify the issues in full.

Overall I am satisfied with the care provided although I do think the cleanliness sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.
Having experience of care homes over the last 20 years, I understand that odours can linger but the smell in the uint is always strong.
Could staff have air fresheners to spray in the corridors as I have seen this done before?
I had one issue with regards to my brother and the staff dealt with it promptly.

They kept me informed every step of the way until it was resolved to my satisfaction.

Reply from Corrine Reid, Home Manager at Haydale Care Home

My Dad passed away on Saturday the 19th of January in hospital after 12 days of not regaining consciousness. He fell in Haydale on 7th Jan around 9am. Of this, I cannot be sure as change over was in place. No one witnessed his fall. We have been devastated by the silence ever since. No full explanation or letter of condolence to our family was ever received. Why? So difficult for me to understand and therefore I personally feel they must take responsibility at least for lack of any correspondence. My Dad was not a difficult man and our hearts are breaking every day.

Reply from Anne Moore, Home Manager at Haydale Care Home

I am so sorry that you believe we have let you down in respect of our communication since your dad passed away. I believe we spoke at the time of your dad's death but we were not aware of any concerns at the time. I can only apologise for the breakdown in communication and I will be in touch with you shortly to address your concerns.

My sister-in-law has been in care in Haydale for over 3 years. During that time, her overall care for dementia and severe physical and mental disability has been 1st class. The home is always spotless with no odour. Staff are professional, kind and tailor care to client's needs. Special medical care is called in as necessary. We, as a family, are always welcome and kept informed by phone and during visits of client's status and/or any change.

I have no complaints in this home as the manager does a very good job in running the home. The staff are excellent along with the food and clean rooms.

This home could do with more staff and I have, for years complained as to why nurses, doctors etc have not been trained in sign language which is very important or use Picture Makaton as it would help older people and to communicate.

My mother moved into Haydale in December 2016, she settled very well. The staff are very hard working they keep me informed of everything in mothers care plan. They are approachable her room is kept clean and tidy. Sometimes feel there could be more staff as the poor staff are run off their feet. Overall with my mother staying there

Having worked across the length and breadth of the UK, it is now my great privilege to be the home manager at Haydale Care Home. Along with our dedicated staff team, I am committed to making sure that our residents live the best life possible in an environment that promotes dignity and respect, and where happiness is at the heart of everything that we do.

Kirstin Millar
Kirstin MillarJob Title Wellbeing CoordinatorJoined 1999

I joined Haydale Care Home in December 1999, and I’m proud to be part of such a caring and dedicated team.

As the Wellbeing Coordinator, I bring a person-centred approach to everything I do. I take the time to really get to know each resident — understanding what makes them smile, what brings them comfort, and what sparks joy in their day.

Our residents enjoy a wide variety of activities and are always eager to get involved, whether it’s group sessions, creative projects, or simply sharing good company.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and friends, socialising, and going to the cinema.

Isabel Cummings
Isabel CummingsJob Title Wellbeing CoordinatorJoined 2010

I’ve been part of the Haydale Care Home team since 10/10/10, starting as a Care Assistant before moving into my current role as Wellbeing Coordinator in 2011.

I bring creativity, empathy, and imagination to everything I do. I’m a good communicator and pride myself on being friendly and approachable. With strong person-centred values, I focus on building meaningful relationships and genuine friendships with our residents.

Some of the activities that work particularly well here include Rem-a-sing — singing with purpose to spark memories and connection — and Welcome to the Week, which gives everyone a chance to share how they’re feeling and what’s happening in the home. Our creative arts sessions are also a favourite, and I’m proud that our artwork recently won a competition! I also enjoy creating personalised colouring sheets that help residents feel emotionally connected and focused.

Outside of work, I enjoy listening to podcasts, going to concerts, and spending quality time with my family at our caravan.
