Haydale welcomes nursing, convalescence and palliative care needs, as well as offering care for complex forms of dementia and help for adults with a learning disability. Long and short term care needs are catered for.

I generally have no issue at Haydale with the exception of my mum's room which constantly stinks of urine. I have brought this up several times, however, has not been totally rectified. There is a blue/grey coloured chain in my mum's room which is very smelly. I also feel her wheelchair is very smelly.
My mum should be on a two-hour pad change!

We are very sorry to hear of the issues raised. I will pass on your feedback to our team within the home and would like to invite you to meet with our Home Manager to discuss how we can rectify the issues in full.

Haydale Care Home has done exceptionally well since my dad has been admitted they have done more in the 2/3 days that the care firm did in 20 months.

Overall I am satisfied with the care provided although I do think the cleanliness sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.
Having experience of care homes over the last 20 years, I understand that odours can linger but the smell in the uint is always strong.
Could staff have air fresheners to spray in
the corridors as I have seen this done before?
I had one issue with regards to my brother and the staff dealt with it promptly.
They kept me informed every step of the way until it was resolved to my satisfaction.

Reply from Corrine Reid, Home Manager at Haydale Care Home

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our home. I take on board your comments about the smell and I will speak to our house keeping team.

Standard of care in Haydale is second to none. I have been involved for 2 1/2 yrs with care home and myself and family cannot fault care given to our relative. Staff are caring, thoughtful and have always kept family up-to-date about your relative.

My Dad passed away on Saturday the 19th of January in hospital after 12 days of not regaining consciousness. He fell in Haydale on 7th Jan around 9am. Of this, I cannot be sure as change over was in place. No one witnessed his fall. We have been devastated by the silence ever since. No full explanation
or letter of condolence to our family was ever received. Why? So difficult for me to understand and therefore I personally feel they must take responsibility at least for lack of any correspondence. My Dad was not a difficult man and our hearts are breaking every day.

Reply from Anne Moore, Home Manager at Haydale Care Home

I am so sorry that you believe we have let you down in respect of our communication since your dad passed away. I believe we spoke at the time of your dad's death but we were not aware of any concerns at the time. I can only apologise for the breakdown in communication and I will be in touch with you shortly to address your concerns.

My sister-in-law has been in care in Haydale for over 3 years. During that time, her overall care for dementia and severe physical and mental disability has been 1st class. The home is always spotless with no odour. Staff are professional, kind and tailor care to client's needs. Special medical care
is called in as necessary. We, as a family, are always welcome and kept informed by phone and during visits of client's status and/or any change.

The staff are excellent. My sister is in the Sunnyside unit for people with learning disabilities, who are under 60. There are many activities for them and all are treated with respect and dignity.

I have no complaints in this home as the manager does a very good job in running the home. The staff are excellent along with the food and clean rooms.
This home could do with more staff and I have, for years complained as to why nurses, doctors etc have not been trained in sign language which is very
important or use Picture Makaton as it would help older people and to communicate.

My mother moved into Haydale in December 2016, she settled very well. The staff are very hard working they keep me informed of everything in mothers care plan. They are approachable her room is kept clean and tidy. Sometimes feel there could be more staff as the poor staff are run off their feet. Overall
with my mother staying there

I find the staff are very caring and go to great lengths to understand residents needs. The house manager, in particular, does all she can to meet the needs of the individuals and her care. Haydale Care Home does a difficult job very well.

My father is content, which is the most important thing to me. His only occasional complaint is about one of then night staff. In my experience, which is only of the day staff, the bulk of them are caring and concerned.

My Mother receives very good care, the staff are all very friendly and helpful. We are kept well up to date regarding care plan, medication and if GP has called etc. Mum seems happy with meals and there seems to be several activities going on during the week.

No real issues, other than I do think

the bedroom is in need of decorating as the paintwork etc is looking a bit tired as is the bathroom. Slight issue with laundry as they seem to lose socks and underwear pretty frequently. Overall, however, we are very happy with the care our mother receives.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.797)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.797) out of 10 for Haydale Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.215 for Haydale Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (78 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 130 Ratings = 4.215

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.582 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Haydale Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.682

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
