I was very worried about my husband going into respite care and wondered how he would cope. He seemed to accept it quite well although he was a little confused. The staff were wonderful - kind, understanding and supportive. They joked and kidded with him which he enjoyed and gave him leeway to do his own thing. I was very relieved and wouldn't be so worried again.

The staff, in general, are very kind and caring, but there seems to be a high turnover of staff, which must take time to get to know them for the residents.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Wyndford Locks Care Home

I am delighted that overall you are happy with the care that your friend is receiving. We are very proud that we do not use Care Assistant agency staff in the home, and this is mainly achieved by employing extra staff within the home, which means that when vacancies occur we can fill them immediately, and internally.

Overall the care in the home is excellent. However, the room has a wash hand basin in it.

This basin should be in the same space as the WC.

I cannot praise the staff who care for my mum in Shuna House, highly enough. My family and I have peace of mind that her needs are fully met with compassion and kindness. The staff always keep me informed of any changes/GP visit outcomes etc in a timely manner. I really think these dedicated and professional staff deserve much more money than they are being paid!

Cannot recommend this care home highly enough. The staff are what makes it. They looked after our dad for 3 years. Caring, compassionate and kind. It felt like he was at home with family.

My mother-in-law has been at the home for six years and is now receiving palliative care from the staff and I feel I need to tell you about the kind professional staff at this home. The staff treat my mother-in-law like a family member they are so gentle, kind and caring towards her. Nothing seems to be a bother to them I can honestly say I feel so grateful for the way they treat my mother-in-law. I know she is being well taken care of and treated with the utmost respect, it makes such a difference to our lives to know that even in the last stage of her life she is treated with such respect and kindness. I can't thank the staff enough for the fantastic job they do but for them, the last six years could have been very different so a huge THANK YOU from myself and family.

We were quite delighted with the care given to our mother during her time at this care home. The room was efficient and comfortable and the common areas bright and cheerful. Staff were particularly excellent and our mother was supported extremely well. We have no hesitation in recommending this facility.

Review from J B (Sister of Resident) published on 25 January 2017 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My brother, who needed care for his physical health, moved into Wyndford Locks in November 2016, after spending over 5 months in hospital. Unfortunately, his mental health bi-polar deteriorated during his short stay. It was totally unexpected as it had been over 12 years since he was last in hospital regarding his mental health. All the staff worked very hard with him and he was given considerable support. My brother was taken to the infirmary in December where he is at present. I would especially like to thanks to the unit manager, senior care assistant and junior sister at Wyndford Locks for all their support.

My father has settled well into Kelvindale House which is exceptionally run by the manager and her staff. Dad has settled well and they are all aware of his likes/dislikes and problems including his sight (very blind). He looks so much better than he did 2 years ago when living on his own.

My mum has been in Wyndford Locks for 6 years in Kelvindale House. My mum's key carer is really good with her and all the staff go out of their way to make sure my mum is clean and tidy, well fed and looked after. It gives me great peace of mind knowing that my mum is in good safe hands.

Overall, I am very happy with the care and attention mum receives in this care home. It has been our first experience of this situation and I have to admit, I was apprehensive at the beginning but now 18 months later, all is well! Mum has her favourites but she enjoys the chat with every carer and the nurses - even the agency nurses have been kind also. I have already recommended this unit to friends.

My mother has been here for 6 months now and the staff have been extremely caring, kind and helpful to my mother, my father and other members of the family. The staff are always smiling and chatting to patients. Only criticism is the toilet and floor in mums room could do with more cleaning.
