Accommodation is well maintained and environment is comfortable. Staff are caring and attentive to my mother's needs and ever-diminishing capacities. Communication from the home provides alerts to any emergent issues. Activities and engagement are of high standards. Communication via newsletters and social media entries provide ongoing reassurance.

The permanent staff and carers in Buchanan House Care Home are excellent and in my experience go above and beyond from clerical staff to domestic staff to carers and nurses and activity staff. However, I am concerned with the number of agency staff currently being used who don’t know my mum. I realise there is a real national shortage but this fact doesn’t reduce the concern.

Thank you for your kind remarks. Over the past months, we have been recruiting at the home and we have had staff nurses, care assistants, domestic staff, maintenance and a gardener, join the team.

I have arranged a meet and greet on 3rd May between 6-8 pm when you will be more than welcome to come along and meet some of the team informally and enjoy some refreshments. Kind regards.

Pleasant, friendly staff, who seem to genuinely care for the residents in their care.
The greeter is especially friendly, helpful and welcoming.

The other carers are very caring and helpful to my aunt.

My husband has been in Buchanan House for several months now and has been very well cared for. He is always well dressed and clean looking. I am always informed about all aspects of my husband's care by the staff. I would like to see more permanent care staff as opposed to agency carers, as I think there is a better rapport with permanent staff.

My aunt moved into Buchanan House after struggling at home. We were extremely happy with the care she received and the home always had a lovely atmosphere. She loved the food and company that felt like home and I would definitely recommend it.

The staff at Buchanan House are amazing. My 91 old mum always says they can't do enough for her. They treat her with great care and respect. She loves the food and is definitely much healthier since she moved there in January. Management is very approachable and are quick to offer solutions to any concerns you have.

Overall Experience

My mother has been a resident of Buchanan House for over 18 years. I feel that the staff are part of our family. They are very approachable and easy to share any concerns with. The care my mother has received has always been excellent and very professional, especially over the Covid Pandemic. She has never once looked "uncared for", which would have been of considerable concern and upset to the family. The nursing care is compassionate. This was shown when my father moved there for his last few months. The activity team works hard to keep residents interested in a variety of activities. The menus are attractive to the residents and the catering staff are able to respond to new ideas. The new visitor champions are an excellent idea and allow other staff to get on with their actual jobs. In summary, Buchanan House Care Home has been my mother's home for a great number of years, it is very well run and I would strongly recommend it.

This home has the most amazing team of nurses and carers. My mum was admitted in September and it was such a lovely experience for her. She got involved in the various activities and made friends quickly. She never asked about "going home", which is really what you want when someone you love can no longer look after themselves. The staff were happy to answer any questions or concerns and never made you feel you were wasting time. I can honestly say that the staff became my mum's family. During these Covid times, that is what you want when you can't be there in person. My mum passed away at the end of December, we know the staff were with her and we take comfort in that. They kept my mum well presented, even putting on nail polish, I know she felt really special. If I ever have to go into a home, I hope it's one like this!

I can not recommend Buchanan House highly enough. Mum was admitted just when our society was changing with Covid 19. The staff were extremely welcoming, helpful and sensitive to both Mum and ourselves knowing that we had to quickly settle Mum and then walk away not knowing when we might see her again face to face. Our family are impressed by and thankful for both the facility and especially the staff and the standard of care given. They provide excellent communication and have been more than helpful in facilitating me being in touch with Mum since I live in Canada.

Having reflected on our initial experience and discussed these with staff, it has become clear to me that any initial miscommunication was down to a variety of factors out of the control of staff.

References to scoring in relation to value for money, is reflective of the costs of the wider care system and are not specific to Buchanan House.

We chose Buchanan House for our 92 year old mum, having found it a friendly welcoming place at our initial visit, and have certainly not been disappointed. The care is excellent and the staff are fantastic. Nothing is too much trouble and Mum, who needs a fair bit of nursing care, is treated with kindness and respect. Her room is cosy and she enjoys lovely meals. Her visitors are made to feel welcome and offered tea/coffee and cakes. Mum particularly enjoys her weekly visit to the residents’ hair salon.

All in all, we feel the care and surroundings Buchanan House offers has smoothed the daunting experience of moving into “care” for our mum and made it an enjoyable experience, and we are very grateful for that.

I find Buchanan House very airy, friendly and welcoming. The staff all seem to enjoy being with the patients and are always cheerful and active, or have been whenever I have visited. There is life in the place and the TV is not always on! Being only an occasional visitor, I can't comment on all the ratings.
