A lovely home with fantastic staff who really care for my dad. The activities are great and the regular outings are what keeps my dad going. These outings are the most important aspect of his life at this difficult point.
Excellent home from home.
All the staff are exceptionally friendly and welcoming. My gran is very at home and all friends and family have commented on how well she looks and how content she is since coming into Buchannan House. It is so reassuring to know she is so well looked after.
What a show! Broadway beware! We had the Andrew Sisters strutting their stuff, followed by a ravishing twosome of Marilyn Munro and Jayne Russell! They sang delectably. But the real highlight was Twiddldee and Twiddledum, who performed a puppet style medley of greatest hits with all the moves.
Today the staff and residents welcomed the wedding party to a grand party with top table, food, refreshments and a lady singer.
Well done Buchanan House for your love and care. My friend loved every moment.
We have concerns about staffing levels, understanding of dementia care requirements, communication between staff and cascade of care plan updates. We have had to prompt GP intervention for simple issues that should be picked up by staff. Standard pain and mood management processes were not implemented until we forced a care review meeting. Staff on the floor are trying their best and have my Dad's best interests at heart but staffing levels and poor communication makes for a very inconsistent level of care.
She has dementia and severe Rheumatoid Arthritis. It was a worrying time for both of us. However, at the end of a six day visit, she was totally at ease with the carers when I called to take her home, which was very pleasing t me. My wife has not always been at ease without me in attendance.
Therefore I hold Buchanan House Care Home in very high esteem and would certainly use them in the future.
My aunt sang and had a great night.
Thank you, we all had a smashing time.
Visitors are made very welcome on arrival and normally offered the hospitality of tea or coffee.
Staff are very caring toward residents and go that bit extra to help and reassure residents.
Excellent menus and chef is first class offering a varied choice of food to meet everyone's taste.
The care home is always clean.
My husband and I recently attended the panto which was great for both residents and family, top marks to management.
Excellent panto, very well attended and organised.
The menus and general health needs are well catered for.
The rooms are always kept clean and well appointed for the needs of the patients.
The safety and security is always a priority.
The overall care and support given is such that I would be happy to give the overall standard as good.
The staff are the best asset this care home has.
Always treating my mum well.
Entertainment, when on, is very good, buffet excellent, a great time all around.
Well done.
Would recommend highly to anyone!
My mother entered Buchanan House in December 2016 and settled in very quickly. I attribute that to the extremely high standard of care and the swiftness of her personal items being erected on her bedroom wall. During her stay, my mother has received assistance 'in house' from GPs, an optician, a physio, podiatrist and dentist, not to mention the weekly hairdresser. I have seen first hand the variety and nutritional value of the meals. I am so pleased that regular fluid is provided. My mother enjoys the regular luncheon and coffee and is impressed with the variety of activities.
I find the staff at the care home all very friendly and approachable. Whenever I have raised anything it has been actioned immediately and followed up. I would say that some parts of the home are looking a bit tired but am aware that they are in the process of decorating/refurbishing the home. Overall I cannot fault the care that has been and continues to be given to my mum. My mum's needs are being met by the home and she enjoys the activities that the home puts on on a regular basis.
My friend was a very difficult arrival at Buchanan House. Now after two years of patience, tolerance and superb care she has now settled and in good health physically, despite a disability from childhood which restricts her walking. I visit when I can and am always welcome, often with a hug from some of the long time carers which is very welcoming. The activities are great, especially the sing songs, which amazes me that my friend remembers every word but sometimes I wonder if she remembers who I am. The office staff too care so friendly and quite often I arrive to find my friend in the office where she is welcomed. Great place, super staff. Thank you for looking after her so well.
She has been there over 18months and their care and activities have seen mum improve and physically much better.
They have a good range of meal choices and tea/coffee available at all times.
I have the feeling that the staff really care for the residents and from our family's point of view we feel she is in a safe place.
The staff were extremely kind and caring and we feel every effort was made to make it an enjoyable experience. We are very grateful to have such a lovely place to entrust our husband/dad
Very happy with the standard of care. Staff pleasant, happy and very attentive towards my mother. The level of supervision in lounges good. Decor a bit tired but refurbishment in progress. Overall a very good home.
My mother in law has settled in so much better than we anticipated which is without doubt due to the care and attention all members of staff have shown her, she is encouraged to join other residents in the newly decorated day room and we are happy to see her socialising more than we would have expected her to. The staff are fantastic and certainly caring , it's great peace of mind to see her looking happy and looked after , we are always made welcome anytime we visit.
The only complaint I have is there is a shortage of staff on duty some days.
Thank you for your comments, we always welcome feedback as we strive to improve our care. I am Kathleen, the dedicated Home Manager for Buchanan House Care Home.
Originally from Ireland, I bring over four decades of experience in nursing, with 41 years dedicated to the profession. I am dual-trained in both adult and mental health nursing, and have spent my career working across a wide range of healthcare settings.
Over the years, I’ve held roles in both the NHS and private healthcare sectors, gaining extensive knowledge and insight into patient care and clinical leadership. For the past 10 years, I have served as a Home Manager, combining my clinical expertise with management skills to ensure high standards of care and compliance.
My career reflects a lifelong commitment to supporting individuals’ health and well-being with compassion and professionalism.

“I believe good administration is about more than paperwork -it's about being approachable, helpful, ready to support whenever needed and helping to create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued”

My name is Karyn and I am the dedicated Activities Coordinator at Buchanan House. I have worked at the home for 17 years, the first 12 years as a care assistant, developing trust with residents and families and then the last 5 years as Activities Coordinator, planning engaging person centred programmes to ensure every resident feels valued, stimulated, and connected. I see activities as much more important than “just something to do” as it plays a vital role in residents’ quality of life.

“I hope that I provide everyone who walks through our door with compassionate assistance and help ensure the day-to-day running of the home is smooth. I am a great believer in attention to detail, as our residents deserve a warm, supportive, and organised environment".

“ I have good clinical skills, and my calm presence hopefully reassures residents and their families that they will receive the care they need. I like to think that I am a supportive colleague who is willing to share knowledge and contribute positively to the workplace culture”

“I have a deep passion for elderly care and take great pride in creating meaningful connections with my residents and their families.
For some, caring for others is their profession; for me, it’s my calling”

Graeme has a strong understanding of dietary requirements in care settings and has 20 plus years of experience in preparing balanced, nutritious and flavourful meals for residents

Gary, our maintenance manager, has a key role in maintaining a safe and pleasant environment for our residents.
