Mum's care since being admitted has been first class. Every member of staff has treated my mother with care and dignity. The improvement in mum's health and wellbeing has been exceptional. I asked mum if being in this care home was not better than sitting in her own home alone for days at a time and
she replied "definitely". The first-class home with the first-class staff, there is nowhere else where I would want my mother to be.

Mum spent about 3 years in Beechwood up till she was 104 years old, and I was always relieved to know that she was being well looked after by the nursing staff, carers and the personnel employed there. I visited her every 6 weeks sometimes more often, as I live in France.
Mum passed away on the 8th
May 2019 but was treated with dignity and affection during the palliative care which was a great comfort to myself and her family. We are so grateful for all that was done for our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and thank you all once more. Not only did the personnel take good care of Mum but they also took good care of her visiting family and friends and for this, we will always be grateful. With kind thoughts.

My granda went into Beechwood December 2016. He has had the best standard of care possible. I work as a nurse myself and I could see the dedication and attention my granda got. Sadly he passed away in February this year. Me and my family are forever grateful for the care and especially in the last few
days of his life. Nothing was too much of an ask and always strove to do the best for granda and our family.

My grandad was cared for in this home for over 2 years. During this time the staff got to know him well and his care needs were met. He was well looked after during time in the home. The home has a caring environment and can tell the staff work hard to maintain high standards of care. I liked the activities
and days out my grandad got to participate in. Also, the personal touches the home has e.g. photos of day trips on the corridor walls. Also, each room has a little bit about each president with their name attached to the door.

My Father was in Beechwood Care Home from December 2016 until 21st February 2019 when he passed away. He was treated with compassion, dignity and respect. The unit lead nurse and care home manager were excellent. My Dad had complex problems and he came to fully trust the unit leader and staff who helped
him daily. I will always be in the staff's debt for making my Dad's last years so comfortable.

I regularly visit my mum in the home and I feel very confident and happy that she is being well cared for. The staff are very helpful if I have a query about anything and there is a happy, friendly atmosphere in the home. The standard of cleanliness is very good and the food is lovely, nutritious and
plentiful. When I leave the home after visiting, I have peace of mind that she is being well looked after.

My aunt has been in Beechwood Care Home since January 2017 and I have found the home to be a first-class establishment both in management and care of the residents.

As no facility is 100%, I felt that my assessment of the care, management, staff and support reflects the high standard of the home.

No complaints, keep up the good work.

Our mother has been treated with respect and dignity at Beechwood Care Home. She is kept clean, warm and well fed. The food, however, is lacking in nutritional value and is reflective of the Scottish diet in general. Too many cakes, biscuits and sugary drinks.
We are impressed with the staff who appear
to be caring and cheerful in a difficult job. We have had trouble with our mother's clothing going missing in significant quantities. After lodging several complaints the situation seems to have been resolved. In summary, we are happy with the care our mother is receiving at this home.

My mum has been a resident since July 2017 and I cannot speak more highly of the staff involved in her care. They have created a homely, caring environment for her despite very challenging circumstances.

I always feel welcome when I visit and the staff always have time to listen and respond to any

issues. They treat my mum with the utmost respect and dignity whilst creating a warm, friendly atmosphere. It is a pleasure being a part of the Beechwood family!

My father went into this care home for emergency care as his wife was taken into hospital. Right away, the staff was welcoming and very reassuring, he settled into life there very quickly. He very much enjoyed the music afternoon and he loves to play his accordion and they take him around to play for
other residents. When we realised that he needed to go into full-time care, they helped us to make the transition without any problems. They take care of his well-being, getting his false teeth fixed, toenails cut, haircut whatever he needs as well as spending time with him.

My mother's health deteriorated over the month of July 2017 until it became obvious she would be unlikely to recover. During this time, every nurse, carer, and cleaner who came in contact with Mum and my family could not do enough to make us comfortable and cared for my mum as if she was a member of
their own family. I knew when my visits ended each day that they would continue to look after her to the same standard. This was a great comfort and helped us with the final few days.

My mum stayed in Beechwood until she passed at the end of July 2017. We as a family could not have asked for a more caring and compassionate home for her to stay in. She was treated like a member of the family and the staff couldn't do enough for her or ourselves, any questions we might of have had
were dealt with quickly and honestly.

On her passing the staff were excellent never rushing us and made time for us and obviously very upset themselves, we can't thank them enough for attending the funeral and for all the help they gave mum in her time in Beechwood, we as a family have now gained an extended family and look forward to visiting the patients and staff and helping in anyway we can with any fundraising, so we the family can carry on my mums fundraising legacy.
The staff and management are amazing it's not just a job to them as they truly care about their patients and families, for which I can't thank them enough for everything they have done.

My mum has dementia but is physically fit and although she doesn't walk very much, she is encouraged to and walks short distances eg; to the toilet and does do physical exercises using her arms and legs. She is always clean and fresh looking and never smells of urine which I thank the staff for. The
home itself has had a recent facelift and is extremely bright and cheerful. My mum has been a resident for almost five years and believe me, if I was unhappy with any aspects of her care she would not be there.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.786)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.786) out of 10 for Beechwood Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 24 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.786 for Beechwood Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (229 Excellents x 5) + (44 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 281 Ratings = 4.786
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Beechwood Care Home is based on 23 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 90 registered maximum number of service users is 18, which has been reached with 23 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Service Manager Joined: 2016

Cathy is a registered Adult and Mental Health Nurse who began her career in care in 1992, spending many years working within care homes as a nurse before joining Beechwood as Deputy Manager in 2015. When the Service Manager role became available, she was the natural choice to step into the position. She has been with the home as Manager since 2016.

Cathy has a particular interest in positive behaviour support and is passionate about helping residents remain connected to their local community. She strongly believes that moving into care should never mean losing a sense of belonging or independence.

She is proud of the way residents continue to enjoy active links with the area through local groups, activities and outings. Daily trips on the home’s minibus allow residents to stay engaged, social and connected, ensuring Beechwood feels not just like a care home, but a place where residents remain valued neighbours and friends.
