Overall Experience

My mum has dementia but is physically fit and although she doesn't walk very much, she is encouraged to and walks short distances eg; to the toilet and does do physical exercises using her arms and legs. She is always clean and fresh looking and never smells of urine which I thank the staff for. The home itself has had a recent facelift and is extremely bright and cheerful. My mum has been a resident for almost five years and believe me, if I was unhappy with any aspects of her care she would not be there.

My aunt has vascular dementia and needs 24hr care which I could not provide. Since becoming a resident at Beechwood, she has her needs excellently cared for. The staff look after residents with care and affection, nothing is too much trouble for them.

The care given to my father is excellent. The staff are outstanding. The are very caring and provide up to date information on how my father is. My father is very settled here. The home recently hosted my wedding as my father cannot get out anymore. Thye made the day and the surrounding perfect and it was fantastic that my dad saw me get married. I cannot fault a thing Beechwood Care Home is a proper home from home.

Review from Ann H (Cousin of Resident) published on 16 March 2017 Submitted via Postal Card

My cousin had only been in the home 4/5 weeks so it was a very basic review. Mainly concerned with who he was and likes and needs. The social worker was not the one that I had met before or arranged the placement. She was pleasant. Nurse I had met before and found helpful and interested.

Review from Blythe K (Niece of Resident) published on 10 March 2017 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

My aunt was taken to Beechwood Care Home for emergency respite care initially for two weeks as her carer was taken to the hospital and subsequently passed away. We found every member of staff and particularly the manager and the staff nurse sympathetic, caring and very committed to those in their care. Despite the trauma of leaving her home of 72 years very unexpectantly, my aunt has been so welcomed and looked after which helped her and the whole family enormously. The home is clean, rooms lovely, and there is always plenty going on to interest and stimulate. Every resident we met seems happy and the place is very well staffed and managed. My aunt is desperate to stay.

Beechwood staff and premises are generally, and have been excellent with my grandmother over the past year she has been a resident. Thankfully, she has also adapted well to this latest phase in her life and I'm very grateful to staff for this.

I would be glad to recommend this home as it friendly, clean, good atmosphere and carers are very attentive to the residents. I visit my husband twice a day everyday - 7 days a week and I have always found him sitting clean and well dressed. Any concerns I have , I am kept well informed by the nurses and I am comfortable leaving him in safe hands, any concerns after I have left, staff will contact me.

Review from Ada H (Daughter-in-law of Resident) published on 22 March 2016 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

The staff at Beechwood go to great lengths to make my Mother in Law feel at home, comfortable and cared for. They take time with her and we feel assured that she is being given the care and attention that we are unable to give 24 hours a day. Her health has improved since moving to Beechwood last July, she enjoys the daily activities, the hairdresser and manicures being a favourite. The staff are marvellous when she needs re assurance and we couldn't ask for a more caring group.

We are kept well informed of anything which may effect her health or wellbeing, she has had to go to hospital twice and staff went with her and stayed with her till we could get there, again very much appreciated. Everything is done to keep confusion at a minimum and I feel that the residents really are cared for.

I have every praise for the Manager and every member of staff. Keep up the good work, I don't know what we'd do without you.

Cathy TogneriJob Title:Service ManagerJoined: 2016

Cathy is a registered Adult and Mental Health Nurse who began her career in care in 1992, spending many years working within care homes as a nurse before joining Beechwood as Deputy Manager in 2015. When the Service Manager role became available, she was the natural choice to step into the position. She has been with the home as Manager since 2016.

Cathy has a particular interest in positive behaviour support and is passionate about helping residents remain connected to their local community. She strongly believes that moving into care should never mean losing a sense of belonging or independence.

She is proud of the way residents continue to enjoy active links with the area through local groups, activities and outings. Daily trips on the home’s minibus allow residents to stay engaged, social and connected, ensuring Beechwood feels not just like a care home, but a place where residents remain valued neighbours and friends.
