My aunt won't eat food and has shakes with truffles or cheesecake in. She seems happy enough. Big thanks to staff. Has had a sore at back passage for a long time and they have managed to clear it up. First time in years it has healed. Don't get aunt out of bed so she doesn't take part in activities
and won't eat food, so I can't answer those questions.

Mum has been in the Village for 3 years now. Half of that time we have been dealing with the impact of Covid, which meant that Mum went from seeing a family member most days, to not seeing any of us for many months. This was hard but it was a great comfort to know that she was being cared for by kind
people, in a pleasant environment. We could tell she had developed a fondness for those who cared for her and her face lit up when she saw them. Now that we are back visiting again, we feel very welcome and have confidence in Mum’s ongoing care, as her dementia takes hold. I am putting “ good “ rather than “excellent” in some of the categories, as I don’t feel very able to comment in the current circumstances.

My gran has always smiled whenever she sees a member of staff, this has provided me with great comfort. The staff have always been very caring and understanding, when I have called or visited. My gran is nearing the end of her life and while it is a difficult time, she seems comfortable and content.
Her room is very homely and I know the staff are taking care of her. I would have liked to see more activities taking place pre covid.
Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at The Village Care Home

Thank you for your kind comments regarding the staff at The Village and the care that they have given to your Gran. It’s nice to hear that she smiles whenever she sees the staff. Pre Covid, we did experience a time when we did not have enough Activities Co-ordinators, however, we now have two Co-ordinators in place who are looking to provide activities throughout the day to the Residents.

Since my mother went into The Village Care Home she has shown a marked improvement in her appearance and general, personal hygiene. The staff keep us informed on her medical progress and I find them most courteous and helpful in all aspects of her care.

Since my mother entered this home nearly six weeks ago now; she has been catered for and taken care of by the staff at the care home, who can only be described as lovely. They will go out of their way to help you with any enquiries you may have (any time of the day or night). The rooms are well cleaned
and tidy. I would have no qualms about any member of my family staying in this establishment.

I have found The Village to be a welcoming, caring and good nursing home.
We have always felt my mum has been looked after well. The girls and guys are always willing to help and assist.
During Covid, the situation has been more difficult and challenging but the home has kept Covid out which is the
main aim. My overall experience has been excellent with a few bumps along the way.

The staff in the Balloch unit are a credit to your facility.
The nurses, care assistants, dining room staff (kitchen), laundry and cleaning staff are without exception the hardest working people I have ever seen.
You may wonder why I didn't put Extremely Likely. The only concern I have is what I
feel to be an inadequate number of staff on this floor, I don't know about other floors. Perhaps a few extra personnel so that residents don't have to wait a long time to be taken to the bathroom, lie down, get a drink etc would be helpful.

Visited my relative during the Christmas period. There seemed to be a festive buzz around the nursing home and staff were dressed in festive clothing. My relative couldn't fault the staff or home. The home was clean and tidy and manager and staff were very welcoming.

Visited The Village Care Home on 3/12/18 with a friend to visit his grandmother. Greeted as arrived in the home. The manager was visible and very welcoming. When I visited there was a group of kids in the lounge/living area being interactive with other residents. The care staff all seemed very nice
and friendly.

The care and professionalism of the staff at the care home is without fault both kind and compassionate despite the challenges of caring for someone with dementia.
They also got to know our wider family and always had time for a friendly chat.
During the end of life care, they provided a superb support
and kindness towards my mother and her family.

In my opinion, The Village Care Home is 2nd to none! From the management team, nurses, carers, kitchen, laundry and maintenance staff. My parents celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on 27th August and the staff put on a delicious 3-course meal for them to celebrate together as they would have
done before my mum had to be taken into care. The staff are all really friendly, caring people for whom nothing is too much bother.

My aunt came to this home in May 2018, however, these comments refer to her care in the two weeks before her death. I found the staff, day and night, to be so caring with my aunt in the two weeks when she deteriorated quite quickly. They were extremely patient and kind to her, myself and my daughter.
They played her favourite music and tended to her every need. She received excellent nursing care.

Over the years I have visited several nursing homes but in my experience, I have never had the privilege of meeting such a lovely team as those who care for elderly ones in the village nursing home. Their dedication, hard work and humour make it a true home from home. Nothing is too much trouble. They
maintain professionalism while demonstrating a real love of people.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.491)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.491) out of 10 for The Village Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.653 for The Village Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (85 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 118 Ratings = 4.653
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.838 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Village Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.938
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
