With a team who are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents, Abercorn House is a thriving care home with a warm, family feel. In 2024 the home was runner-up in the Caring UK Awards, for the Care Home of the Year Award for the whole of Scotland!

Providing nursing, dementia and palliative care, the team also provide respite care breaks, which are an ideal support for carers looking after loved ones, enabling them to take a short break themselves.

There are so many wonderful activities to enjoy, from pamper sessions with manicures and hand massages, to baking and even a mobile cocktail bar!

There are gentle exercise sessions, games and also sensory sessions in the home’s relaxation room. Abercorn has a hair salon, with a mobile hairdresser visiting the home twice a week.

And mealtimes are a real highlight of the day, with home-cooked Scottish fayre prepared by the chef and home-baking for afternoon tea.

Abercorn has its own minibus for trips into the community, from the local transport museum, to garden centres and cafés. This Halloween the residents carved their own pumpkins, which they hand-picked locally.

The team are passionate about residents having a very active role to play in how their home is run, with resident ambassadors, who are involved in everything from interviewing potential staff, to providing feeding back on everything from the menus to the activities on offer.

Loved ones are welcome at any time, and Abercorn has a lovely garden room, which is a wonderful space for families to celebrate special occasions.

The large gardens are a beautiful place to relax in the summer. They have just had a makeover, with the residents helping with the designs, choosing everything from the layout to the plants and furniture they would like. This summer the residents enjoyed growing their own flowers and vegetables.

More than happy with the care my mum is receiving.
Staff are friendly and approachable, nothing ever seems to be too much trouble.
The care home itself is lovely and always fresh and clean.

The staff are really good to Mum and all of the other residents. They will get the doctor when needed and nurses are always about. Staff are very friendly with visitors and let us know all that is going on, especially how good Mum is eating and drinking.

There has been a dramatic improvement in both the care of mum and the general ambience of the home, makes it a pleasurable experience to visit.
The care assistants are friendly and helpful.
I am satisfied that mum is receiving a good level of care.
All of the above is a result of good new management
and a serious level of capital investment.

I would like to thank all staff in Abercorn for their support while my mum was there and how safe a welcome they made her. She was only there a week because I was waiting on somewhere near home, such a shame it was to far for us to travel. The manager and nurse were so nice and to be honest it’s the
happiest I have ever seen my mum. So sad to leave. I would strongly recommend this place, very homely.

Our mother was taken into Abercorn House Care Home in February this year until she sadly passed away in June. The management and staff were very caring and helpful in making our mother's final days comfortable.
They provided her with everything she needed even if it was just a chat.

The staff are very attentive to my aunt's needs and wants.


She is settled and feels safe. The nurses and other medical staff are very good and proactive.

All our family were pleased with the care my brother-in-law received in this nursing home. All the staff were friendly but professional and went the extra mile to make my brother's stay here as comfortable as possible. The nursing care he received was given with respect leaving him with his dignity

My daughter who has Downes Syndrome plus the start of dementia and arthritis in her hip.
She has been in Abercorn House for several weeks and I have visited her every day until 6pm to help the staff as my daughter has speaking problems. I have observed them handling her, attending to her personal hygiene
and also importantly their compassion towards her have been of the highest standard. They attend to her, speak to her and also their compassion towards her has been of the highest standard. They attend to her, speak to her and also their kindness to me cups of tea a five-star hotel couldn't give better care. My best wishes to all.-

Rowena

Rowena Alferos

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2020

Rowena has been part of the team at Abercorn for many years, proudly working her way up from Deputy Manager to her current role leading the home.
Since she became the home manager in 2023, Abercorn has received a 'Very Good' Care Inspectorate rating, with a 'Very Good' in every single area, as well as being named runner up in the Care Home of the Year Award (Scotland) in the Caring UK Awards 2024!
Coming to Scotland in 2004, Rowena graduated as a nurse in 1993 in Manila.
She is passionate about involving residents' loved ones in everyday life at Abercorn and champions residents to have an active role to play in how the home is run, with both resident and relative ambassadors.
