The south-facing gardens are glorious and a real haven for birds. With raised planters they are beautifully landscaped, with a rockery and a large seating area.
There is so much going on at Westwood House, with a wide range of engaging activities on offer, including animal visits, with Shetland ponies always going down a treat. Many of the residents enjoy baking, while others prefer reiki and reflexology sessions. And there are regular visits from a mobile hairdresser.
The team at Westwood House follow the Care about Physical Activity program (CAPA), which is led by the Care Inspectorate, so there are regular gentle exercise sessions to keep residents as active as possible.
There are some lovely areas to relax in, from the conservatory to the welcoming lounges and dining room. Residents enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals every day prepared by the home’s chef. There is everything from stews and roast dinners with all the trimmings, to a firm favourite for so many residents – fish and chip Friday. And there are home-made treats each day for dessert and afternoon tea.
The bedrooms are spacious and well decorated, offering a place for residents to relax and feel at home. Everything is provided, but residents are welcome to bring small items of furniture, ornaments and pictures, to make their bedrooms truly their own.
As well as providing nursing, dementia and palliative care, the home’s respite care breaks are perfect if you are caring for a loved one at home and need a short break yourself.

What stands out most is the level of compassion shown by the entire team. They take the time to get to know each resident personally, ensuring everyone feels valued, comfortable, and safe. It's clear that the wellbeing of residents is always the top priority.

The Carers and Management Team have been amazing with her and I cannot fault them one bit. Each staff member is approachable and they are happy to deal with any queries that we may have. Nothing is ever an issue. The staff take time to get to know the residents and their families which I think is great.
Westwood house always has activities, fundays and evening events. This allows relatives to keep busy throughout the day and enjoy time with their families. The activity team are brilliant and always looking to plan more fun activities! My Gran loves it!
We as a family are very pleased with the care, compassion and support that is given to my Gran.

It was with sadness that the time had come for our friend to be placed in full time care due to a combination of circumstances & complex needs. Many homes were visited and researched before deciding Westwood House would best suit her needs. In the time she has been there, we have been very pleased by the care and support. Team members in every role are kind, helpful & tuned into individuals' needs. Residents are treated with dignity & compassion. The days are punctuated by "treats", e.g. cheese, wine, live music, pamper sessions and purposeful activities and outings. We entered W.H - trusting but with heavy hearts - we no leave after our visits at peace & feeling more lighthearted.

I was at the summer craft fare, it was a great day. All staff, residents and families had a great day, the tombola, raffles, bbq, the sun was shining, great day all round. The staff were very helpful and made sure everyone was looked after. The home baking was lovely.

My dad has now been resident here since November 2023. I must take the time to give one staff member in particular a mention. She is the best when it comes to entertaining the residents and ensuring they all have a fantastic time. We are always made to feel very welcome at all times. My dad is much happier being there and at times he can be difficult but even though he struggles with his memory the staff are patient and understanding. There is always a great atmosphere and all residents are free to wonder whilst great care is being maintained.

The staff are excellent and took great care of him whilst he was there. There are lots of activities for the residents, every time I visited my uncle there was singing and laughter. Westwood is spotless and my uncle's room and en-suite were maintained to a high standard. I cannot thank the staff enough for the care and attention they gave him. Staff informed myself of any appointments that my Uncle had to attend and escorted him to them (when I could not).

Cat is the Home Manager at Westwood House, with 13 years of experience in health and social care. Her journey into the sector began at the age of 17 when she took her first role in a care facility. Initially working bank shifts while studying at university, she quickly discovered a passion for helping others and knew this was the career path for her.
After applying for a role at Abercorn House in 2018, Cat spent a year there before exploring opportunities outside of care, including working with AG Barr and in healthcare recruitment. However, she soon realised how much she missed the fast-paced, meaningful environment of care and returned to Abercorn House during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was during this time that she developed her leadership skills, which led her to apply for a Deputy Home Manager role at Westwood House in December 2021. She has since progressed into her current role as Home Manager.
Cat has worked with Sanctuary Care on and off for eight years, progressing from a care assistant through to leadership. She values the many opportunities for career development within the organisation and is a strong example of how progression is encouraged and supported. She enjoys the variety and pace of her role and feels privileged to make a positive difference to the lives of residents, supporting them to achieve a good quality of life.
One of Cat’s proudest achievements was, within her first year as Home Manager, leading her team to achieve a Care Inspectorate grade 5, as well as gaining recognition through nominations for both a National Care Award and a Scottish Care Award. She holds a degree in International Business Management with languages and can speak both French and Spanish.
Cat believes strongly that choosing a care home is about the feeling you get when you walk through the door. Her advice to families is to trust their instincts, as that first impression can often say a lot about the environment, the team, and the quality of care provided.
