The south-facing gardens are glorious and a real haven for birds. With raised planters they are beautifully landscaped, with a rockery and a large seating area.
There is so much going on at Westwood House, with a wide range of engaging activities on offer, including animal visits, with Shetland ponies always going down a treat. Many of the residents enjoy baking, while others prefer reiki and reflexology sessions. And there are regular visits from a mobile hairdresser.
The team at Westwood House follow the Care about Physical Activity program (CAPA), which is led by the Care Inspectorate, so there are regular gentle exercise sessions to keep residents as active as possible.
There are some lovely areas to relax in, from the conservatory to the welcoming lounges and dining room. Residents enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals every day prepared by the home’s chef. There is everything from stews and roast dinners with all the trimmings, to a firm favourite for so many residents – fish and chip Friday. And there are home-made treats each day for dessert and afternoon tea.
The bedrooms are spacious and well decorated, offering a place for residents to relax and feel at home. Everything is provided, but residents are welcome to bring small items of furniture, ornaments and pictures, to make their bedrooms truly their own.
As well as providing nursing, dementia and palliative care, the home’s respite care breaks are perfect if you are caring for a loved one at home and need a short break yourself.

I always wash Dad with the basin and cloth and Dad shaves with his electric razor. If you mention a shower it's a no.

My Dad moved into Westwood Care Home last year. Unfortunately, he is no longer with us. Before moving into Westwood Care Home he was living independently in his own home. As a family we were apprehensive about him having to move to a care home. Our worries were unfounded. The staff are all very approachable with any concerns and keep the family updated about health issues and any concerns we may have. The meals are varied and appetising and eaten in a lovely dining room. The residents are entertained with various events throughout the monthly calendar. My dad was in the care home for a short time before he passed but it was the happiest he has been for a long time. I would recommend this care home on every level.

I find Westwood House Care Home to be a very homely and friendly care home. Care home staff are caring and compassionate, often “going the extra mile” to look after my mum’s needs. The freedom to decorate my mum’s room has been much appreciated and definitely makes her feel more at home. Staff are welcoming and inclusive of family members, happy to keep us up to date and make time if we need to talk.
Our mum spent three weeks of respite time from October to November 2022. This was Mum and our first experience of a care home facility, hard as it was to have a need for such a service Westwood with its kind, caring, attentive and experienced staff made the whole process easy and more bearable....

Dad has been there for 5 months now, I have found all staff very supportive and keep me up to date on dad's health and wellbeing. I can relax knowing he's been well looked after. Lots of activities for the service users. Staff do a great job.

I was rather disappointed during my recent visit (I live in Cornwall) to East Kilbride, I visited every day at various times for up to two hours (when I could bear the heat) and noticed where there were gaps in care, to say the least. I have, however, since speaking to the new manager and believe her heart is to see great improvement for the residents.

Since mum became a resident at Westwood House Care Home I can honestly say I have had nothing but amazing support from all the staff. My wife has been residing in Westwood House Care Home since 18 November 2020 with dementia. Up until 15 March 2022, she had settled in well and was enjoying participating in the Activities sessions. Particularly those involving singing and dancing. It was obvious to me she had struck up a great rapport with a number of the Staff. We had also been given use of the Gazebo in the garden for celebrating events like birthdays and wedding anniversaries, the latest being our 69th. The Chef provided our meals. Sadly my wife’s left foot was fractured during the early hours of 15 March. The Staff acted swiftly and escorted her to hospital where she underwent surgery. Since her return to Westwood House she has brought additional problems for the Staff to deal with. I am pleased to report the Manager is ensuring my wife is wearing the support boot provided by the NHS, and that the Staff are providing appropriate care. I wish to record my thanks to the Staff for turning up for work during Covid.
Very happy with Westwood House. My mother is treated with respect and compassion, and she has formed a bond with some of the care staff and events coordinators. I appreciate the wide range of daily activities to help stimulate my mother. Lovely to see her enjoying these on WhatsApp.

Cat is the Home Manager at Westwood House, with 13 years of experience in health and social care. Her journey into the sector began at the age of 17 when she took her first role in a care facility. Initially working bank shifts while studying at university, she quickly discovered a passion for helping others and knew this was the career path for her.
After applying for a role at Abercorn House in 2018, Cat spent a year there before exploring opportunities outside of care, including working with AG Barr and in healthcare recruitment. However, she soon realised how much she missed the fast-paced, meaningful environment of care and returned to Abercorn House during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was during this time that she developed her leadership skills, which led her to apply for a Deputy Home Manager role at Westwood House in December 2021. She has since progressed into her current role as Home Manager.
Cat has worked with Sanctuary Care on and off for eight years, progressing from a care assistant through to leadership. She values the many opportunities for career development within the organisation and is a strong example of how progression is encouraged and supported. She enjoys the variety and pace of her role and feels privileged to make a positive difference to the lives of residents, supporting them to achieve a good quality of life.
One of Cat’s proudest achievements was, within her first year as Home Manager, leading her team to achieve a Care Inspectorate grade 5, as well as gaining recognition through nominations for both a National Care Award and a Scottish Care Award. She holds a degree in International Business Management with languages and can speak both French and Spanish.
Cat believes strongly that choosing a care home is about the feeling you get when you walk through the door. Her advice to families is to trust their instincts, as that first impression can often say a lot about the environment, the team, and the quality of care provided.
