Westwood House have worked very hard through this pandemic and have done their best for Mum. The nursing and activities team deserve a special mention for going the extra mile with regular updates and facetime contact. The manager and admin staff have always shown great compassion and understanding, so well done all round. NB Please note I have chosen mainly good's for my ratings. This is fair as I have had very limited insight, due to Covid.

First visit to this home to visit my mum who has been in the home for four weeks. The staff were very friendly and efficient with the new Coronavirus procedures. Only seen the reception and my mums room.

My review is from a very short period of time my mum was in care at Westwood (Oct 2020 - Jan 2021). I have not been inside the home to provide an honest review.

I appreciate COVID is very challenging for staff and management. My experience with Westwood has been overall poor given the inconsistent information provided to myself and other family members about mums care and unfortunately valuables lost or misplaced within the home. Mum's behaviours changed completely and I felt the need to move mum to another care home to meet the needs of her care. In trying to do so there was a lack of co-operation from Westwood to other care homes enquiring about mum's needs which I felt was completely unnecessary and unjustified.

I'm sure staff are doing their best however I felt Westwood was not the best care home for mum's condition. Therefore, I moved her to another care home which is closer to the family and meets mum's care needs.

My brother has been in this care home for over a year and his room is lovely and clean. The staff are good with him and he has his personal stuff, that gives him comfort. When in normal times, I would go up at any time, to see him but, with covid, I was only getting garden visits on Sundays but they kept us updated with news letters every month. This was good to tell us what was going on or they would phone to let me speak to my brother. If I have any questions, I ask the nurses about it. It seems to be a good home and the staff are good.

My mum has returned to the home after a stay in hospital. The staff have been extremely helpful and considerate towards myself and my mum. I know that she is getting the best care possible and can now look forward to seeing my mum's health improve. The manager and her nursing staff update me daily on Mum's progress.

Westwood House has done an amazing job under the circumstances. It has been really difficult with the lack of communication and visits to our mum.
The activities co-ordinators have been amazing, as I'm sure all the staff are. They both have fantastic connexion with our mum. They just know how to lift her spirits. What a difference in our mum, she loves happy upbeat people, and they are certainly are.
You can see the fun and laughter they have together on the video calls, it certainly puts our minds at ease that mum is happy, well cared and loved. I call every day for an update on mum; the staff are so friendly, upbeat, never a problem; they are always happy to give me an update.
Its must be very stressful for all staff at this difficult time.
As a family, we thank them for their commitment to the job!
You are all amazing.

On a personal note, the whole care home team have show our family great compassion with the loss of our dad. Thank you.

It's hard to review a place when I can't get in to see my dad but from what I can tell the care seems good. My dad seems okay though. There's a little bit of confusion regarding belongings but that's what my dad says and sadly he is confused more and more.

Review from M M (Wife of Resident) published on 4 September 2020 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

Until recently, the care was good. My husband was clean, tidy, well-shaved etc. In the past few months, since lockdown, isolated in bedrooms and care does not seem as good. Just last week, when we saw him, (through the bedroom window) he was in a very unkempt state. Not shaved, which looked like for a few days and don't know when his hair was last washed or brushed. He was only dressed in a t-shirt and underpants and had no trousers on. The chair he was sitting on had two hooded tops and a pair of trousers on it (clothes not being put away). I would also like you to know that an expensive electric razor went missing from his room and was never found at the end of last year. The bedrooms were left unlocked at that time and other residents were known to wander into rooms. After complaining, doors were locked when unoccupied. The manageress told us to buy another razor and we would be refunded. So far we have not managed to do that as we don't always have a spare £60.

Reply from Fae Doherty, Senior Marketing Officer at Westwood House Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to review our home, your feedback is truly invaluable to us. I believe you have now spoken to our Home Manager about the above and that your husband has been given a new razor. We are always here to help, so please do not hesitate to get in touch going forwards. Best wishes.

Excellent level of individual care particularly impressed with the drum kit bought for dad by the activity coordinator as dad used to be in a band. He loves it and it has lifted his mood. Very impressed by this assessment of his needs. Dad gets a good level of support from staff as I do.

Since this is a relatively small home, it is more like 'home'. The accommodation is of a good standard although at times the common areas could do with better control of temperature e.g. air conditioning. The staff are friendly and provide excellent quality of care. All in all, my mother has improved over the time she has spent here. I am pleased that my mother is in this home.
